7-11 GRADE FINAL TESTS will be given on Friday, May 17 and Monday, May

20. All students in grades 7-11 will take second semester tests in all classes unless they

meet the following criteria and opt not to take any semester tests: 1) Students must not

miss more than four days and have more than four tardies during the school year.

School sponsored activities during the school day do not count as absences. Examples

of absences that do count are: illness, doctor or dentist appointments, driver's test, or

any absence that is not school related. 2) Students should not have received any

disciplinary infraction during the school year. 3) Students must have an average of 86%

or higher in all second semester classes. A grade of 85% or lower in any one class will

require the student to take second semester tests in all classes. 4) Any student with an

unexcused absence during the year will take final tests. 5) Any student who violates the

drug/alcohol and tobacco policy will not qualify for the option of not taking final tests.

Students who qualify for “opting out” are encouraged to take second semester tests to

raise their grades. The test list will be available on Monday, May 13.

TOPP NOTE: It’s time to celebrate! Summer is right around the corner. We ask all of

you teenagers out there to make the responsible choice. Remember, Zero Tolerance

means zero chances. Stay alive – Don’t Drink and Drive and Have A Safe Summer!

CAUTION - THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL - An alarming trend seems to be

developing in recent years in the midlands. Celebrating the end of the school year has

often become the time to have an “end of the year” unsupervised party. Many of these

parties offer alcohol or other drugs for use by students. Since school often is dismissed

early on the last day of the school year, students organize a party at someone’s home or

cabin where parents will not be present. The purpose of the party is not only to

celebrate the end of the school year, but also to have one last time together before

friends go separate ways for the next few months. Schools rarely know about the

parties. Parents often do not understand the scope of danger involved. This new

custom may or may not be related to Senior Skip Day. This traditional day involves

seniors planning a day when all “skip” school the same day and meet for a party. The

site is usually someone’s cabin or an area near rivers or campsites. Alcohol and other

drugs are nearly always available all day long. Again, schools usually do not know about

the parties. Again, parents rarely understand the scope of the danger involved. In

recent years, both of these types of unsupervised parties have resulted in tragedy. One

“last day of school” party resulted in a young teen driving while intoxicated and killing a

young father and injuring his daughter. A senior boy was killed by a senior girl driver

leaving a Senior Skip Day party. News reports indicate that both seniors had been

drinking. Reports from throughout our area indicate that unplanned sex, rapes, fights,

violence and other dangerous problems have also been associated with both of these

types of parties. Parents should be warned to know where their children are, whom they

are with and what they are doing. Parents should also be prepared to say “no” to any

dangerous, unsupervised parties....PRIDE - Omaha, Inc.

PARENT SURVEY Dear Parents: East Butler Public School and Colette Stelling, a before and after school provider at Centennial Public School, are exploring the possibility of an extended care program at East Butler Elementary starting in the Fall of 2019. This would be a before and after school program for school-age children, kindergarten through 6th grade. We are sending out this survey to get an idea of how many families have a need for this program. The program will be open from 6:30 am until school starts and after school until 6:00 pm. A snack would be provided for the after-school time. The program will provide many different activities, including a homework area, arts and crafts, indoor/outdoor play, board games and much more. If there are additional questions regarding programming, please contact Colette Stelling using the email: [email protected] If there is a need for the before and after school program, and pending school board approval, a contract may be established with Colette Stelling to run this program. The fee would be in the range of $65-75 a week per child. The program would be open on school days only. If school would be cancelled or there are non-school days on the schedule, the program would be closed on those days. If your family is interested in this service, please fill out the information below and return to the school office in Brainard and Dwight by May 24, 2019. Please contact Mr. Biltoft at East Butler if there are any additional questions.
