in and around East Yorkshire

For generations the wonderful and varied landscape of the East Riding of

Yorkshire and the surrounding area has produced some of the finest foods

in England. The area is home to a great diversity of well-managed farms

producing a wide range of delicious food and drink. Further abundance

comes from a coastline that lands freshly caught fish and seafood.

This guide is designed to help you discover tasty local food and drink

available on our doorstep. Buying local produce offers not only the

best in quality and value but also makes an essential contribution to

the sustainability of the countryside, our market towns and the wider

environment.

We hope you enjoy browsing through this guide and it inspires you to start,

or continue, to tuck into mouth-watering local food and drink.

Welcome to Your Guide to Enjoying Local Food and Drink in and around East Yorkshire

4-9 Local Food & Drink Producers

There is no one better than local producers to introduce themselves and their products.

However, not all of them are open to the public, so please check before visiting. If not, they will be happy to advise you of your nearest stockist or which farmers’ markets and food festivals they attend.

Local food and drink is becoming increasingly available through farm shops, local shops and delicatessens. It is sometimes available direct from the farm, through local box schemes, or at farmers’ markets, food festivals and country shows.

Restaurants, hotels, B&Bs, pubs and tea rooms are increasingly using local produce in their menus. Enjoy a great pub lunch, delicious afternoon tea, gourmet dinner or the perfect pint, whilst discovering one of the pretty villages and historic market towns set in beautiful countryside or along the stunning heritage coast. Or learn how to make the best use of local produce at a cookery class.

Enjoy cookery demonstrations and meet

local producers at some of the many food

festivals, shows and events taking place in

and around East Yorkshire throughout the

year. Driffield Show held in July and Beverley

Food Festival held in October are major

dates in the calendar for visitors and locals

alike.

Visiting a farmers’ market is one of the best

ways to meet the people who grow superb

fruit and vegetables, make delicious cheese,

bread and preserves, sell freshly caught fish

and seafood and produce tasty meat.

Our family has been farming on the Yorkshire Wolds for more than 50 years. Our flour and bread mixes are produced from organic cereals grown and milled on the farm in a traditionally designed wooden Austrian mill which produces stone ground flour. The wheat grown for our flour is predominantly Maris Widgeon, an old variety which has lots of flavour.
