PRESIDENTS MESSAGE Page 2

"Welcome to the April Newsletter” How time has flown, here we are into April and so much has happened. During February the Ivor Burge Championships were held at Dandenong Stadium. It was great to see many new players across the teams, the level of competition was as always very good. This year we had a men's team from Japan competing. They were a big attraction and although they started slowly, they improved as the week progressed to play Victoria in the final. Whilst the strong Vic Metro team prevailed, the visitors were very gallant. In the women's final, Vic Metro after a monumental struggle against NSW Metro won almost on the buzzer. The NSW Metro team is to be commended on their tenacity after a long week of basketball. An added attraction on the Sunday was a "test" between the Japanese team and an Australian Squad. There was some high quality of display in both teams and a great spectacle for the special guest, the Japanese Deputy Consul General, Mr Tanabe. He was a very interested spectator and keen to see this become a regular visit by the Japanese teams. The other very big event in town in March was the Inas Cricket Championship between traditional rivals England and Australia. A very good opening to the event was held in the iconic Long Room at the MCG on the Monday evening. There was a large crowd as the competition was being held as part of the Cricket Australia All Abilities Carnival that also includes Deaf & Hard of Hearing and Blind & Visually Impaired championships. It was a big week for the national teams players as they competed in T20 and ODI games. We congratulate both teams on their close competition. Can I just say that events as described above don't happen without a lot of work, so to Robyn and the team and to Cricket Australia and Basketball Australia staff thank you for your commitment and support. Finally the Board is taking a close look at our strategies for the future. There is more and more competition for support from the traditional agencies and we have to ensure we are at the head of the queue. We'll keep you informed of any significant developments that come from this process. Best wishes to you all, keep doing what you are for the athletes we support, it makes a difference.

Benalla hosted Australia and England for a weekend before their Inas International Cricket Series for players with an intellectual disability in Melbourne. During the weekend the teams were treated to the best of what Benalla had to offer including a fly in the Gliding Club of Victoria’s glider simulator, a kangaroo BBQ lunch at Yooralla and a yabbying trip. The weekend finished with both sides playing warm up matches against composite Benalla & District teams. Following the games all players enjoyed a meal at the gardens oval and a presentation by the Mayor. The Inas International Cricket Series was held at the MCG Long Room on Monday with the official matches starting Tuesday and continued to the following Tuesday 24th March.

RESULTS –

DAY 1 - England (4-160) D. Bowser 52, C. Edwards 45, B. Wilson 2-18, B. Duffield 2-28

def. Australia (4-96) G. Cross 31

DAY 2 - England (2/180) def. Australia (9/94) An unbeaten century from Daniel

Bowser helped England claim a two-nil advantage after the second Twenty20 match

of the 2015 INAS International Cricket Series on Wednesday.

DAY 3 - Australia (6/110) def. England (10/88) Boyd Duffield starred with bat and ball to lead Australia to its first win. DAY 4 - England has opened up a 3-1 lead after its eight-wicket win against Australia. DAY 5 - A dominant performance with bat and ball helped England secure the win in the fifth and penultimate match. England was far too strong for Australia at Albert Ground in Melbourne, recording a 148-run victory. DAY 6 - Brilliant knocks from England captain Chris Edwards and Australia captain Gavan Hicks highlighted the sixth and final match of the 2015 INAS International Cricket Series at Carlton’s Princes Park today. Edwards, who was named player of the series, scored a magnificent 104 at the top of the order to help his side post 8-199. The one-day match was reduced to 35 overs per side after early morning rain forced a delayed start to play. In reply, Australia fell just short in its chase, reaching 5-164 on the back of an entertaining 94 from first drop Hicks. England’s 35-run victory wrapped up a 5-1 series victory for the visitors. http://www.allabilities.vic.cricket.com.au/news.aspx
