Metropolis is a German film made in Germany It is thought to be the first post-apocalyptic and dystopian film created.

Metropolis is set in a futuristic urban dystopia, and follows the attempts of Freder, the wealthy son of the city's ruler, and Maria, whose background is not fully explained in the film, to overcome the vast gulf separating the classist nature of their city.

FARENHEIT 451 (1966)

Fahrenheit 451 is a 1966 British Dystopian science fiction drama film directed by François Truffaut and starring Oskar Werner, Julie Christie, and Cyril Cusack. Based on the 1953 novel of the same name by Ray Bradbury, the film takes place in a controlled society in an oppressive future in which a fireman, whose duty it is to burn every literature, becomes a fugitive for reading.

NINETEEN EIGHTY-FOUR (1984)The main character, Winston Smith, lives in a totalitarian government in a super state called Oceania. Independent thought is considered a crime. Winston, going against the laws of his government, has an affair with a mysterious woman, and the is punished and brainwashed until he is considered "healthy" again.

Directed by Michael Radford this film is an adaptation from its original novel written by George Orwell.

The Matrix (1999)

The Matrix "depicts a dystopian future in which reality. This science fiction and dystopian action film, written and directed by Andy and Larry Wachowski, compares the world in the Matrix to the human world. The story follows the main character and protagonist Neo as he attempts to escape the world he is trapped in, and ventures into a world where anything is possible.

CHILDREN OF MEN (2006)

Directed by Alfonso Cuarón. This post-apocalyptic dystopian film is set in the year 2027.

In a chaotic world in which women have become somehow infertile, a former activist agrees to help transport a miraculously pregnant woman to a sanctuary at sea.

I AM LEGEND (2007)

I Am Legend is a 2007 British-American post-apocalyptic science fiction horror film directed by Francis Lawrence and starring Will Smith.

He plays the role of virologist Robert Neville, who is immune to a man-made virus originally created to cure cancer. He works to create a remedy while defending himself against mutants created by the virus.

IN TIME (2011)

In Time is a 2011 American dystopian sci-fi thriller film written, directed, and produced by Andrew Niccol and starring Amanda Seyfried and Justin Timberlake.

This film is set in a future where people stop aging at 25, but are engineered to live only one more year, having the means to buy your way out of the situation is a shot at immortal youth.
