What is Dyslexia?

Dyslexia is a learning disability that alters the way the brain processes written material. It is typically characterized by difficulties in word recognition and spelling. A child with dyslexia may learn to read significantly later than his peers, despite having average or above average intelligence.

Those with dyslexia use only the right side of the brain to process language, while non-dyslexics use three areas on the left side of the brain to process language.

Dyslexia is by far the most common learning disorder. Almost 10% of the population has it.

Of those who are placed in special education for a learning disability, around 80% of those have dyslexia.
