Dynamic health monitoringin micro turning process
A multi-sensory approach
The book deals with dynamic health monitoring of micro turning processusing a combination of methodologies which ensures accuracy of theprocess, prevention of tool breakage during machining and enhancementof surface integrity of machined profile. In order to achieve the desiredobjective, a pattern recognition based algorithm has been developedwhich effectively finds the machine stiffness and material constantsdynamically. Subsequently, photoelastic methodology has beenimplemented to evaluate the shear stress generated on the tool face. FiberBragg grating sensor was used to dynamically assess the temperatureinduced at the tool tip of the micro turning tool during machining and thesurface roughness of machined surface was related with the temperatureinduced at the tool tip during machining. It was concluded that thecombination of these methodologies can effectively eradicate the existingproblems, challenges and limitations persistent in micro turning process.
