BOOKLAUNCH: KEN JONES AND LYNNE REESKen Jones’ Bog Cotton is the latest collectionfrom a writer and editor who has played aprominent part in pioneering the Westerndevelopment of the ancient Japanese prosepoetry genre, the haibun.Lynne Rees’ forgiving the rain is a multifacetedmemoir of home. These contemporary haibuncombine the narrative power of prose with theepiphanies of haiku poetry to question andexplore where home is, how we recognise it,how we leave it and how we find our way back.

READING & WRITING HAIBUN WITHKEN JONES AND LYNNE REESProse or poetry? Why not both? From its birthplacein Japan, the English language haibun isexperiencing a renaissance on both sides of theAtlantic. It uniquely balances prose with poetry and lendsitself to a variety of styles and forms: journalling,the lyrical essay, memoir, nature and travel writing.We’ll read some haibun for inspiration and have ago at constructing our own.

STEVE GRIFFITHSSteve Griffiths’ sixth collection of poems, Surfacing(Cinnamon Press), was published last year. He hasrecently returned from a successful series ofreadings in New York. Surfacing begins underground,in an abandoned place, but soon there are stirrings,occasional explosions into an inexplicably dazzlinglight, an insistence on miracles of optimism andflashes of humour. Plus open mic.
