The work of this group of dedicated volunteers has been transformational for health care in our community. Foundation Provides New Appliances for EKLC With your donations, the Dyersville Health Foundation was able to purchase two new appliances for Ellen Kennedy Living Center. The appliances include a new refrigerator and freezer for the second floor kitchen for tenants to use, and an upright freezer for the nutrition department.

Zoom Cart Reduces Staff Injury Demands on health care professionals have never been greater – heavier patients, longer transports, and an expectation to perform with fewer hands on deck. With your help, Dyersville Health Foundation was able to fund a new Zoom Cart with Motorized Drive System for Mercy – Dyersville.

Amy Phelps, Mercy – Dyersville Director, said, “This hi-tech stretcher really takes the load off our staff and improves patient satisfaction.”

50 Years of Support from the Auxiliary The Mercy – Dyersville Auxiliary is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2018. This organization of dedicated volunteers has contributed over $750,000 and countless hours to Mercy – Dyersville, Oak Crest Manor, and Ellen Kennedy Living Center.

Their gifts have had more impact on health care in our community than any other organization. Through their hard work and generosity, they’ve touched the lives of virtually every patient, resident, tenant, employee, and visitor that has passed

Oak Crest Manor Residents Enjoy New Gardens New raised gardens and flower beds were added this past spring at Oak Crest Manor, and residents enjoyed being able to help create, plant, and tend the gardens. The project was made possible through a donation from the Dyersville Health Foundation and the Mercy – Dyersville Auxiliary.

Door Openers Provide Safety and Accessibility For the folks living at Ellen Kennedy Living Center, the installation of automatic door openers has made their lives much easier and safer.

Hercules Bed Benefits Patients and Caregivers Repositioning patients in a traditional hospital bed can be very difficult for the caregiver and for the patient as well. For the caregiver, they are often putting their bodies at risk for injury while trying to pull a patient up in bed. For the patient, this process can be uncomfortable, unsafe, and sometimes embarrassing. To address these issues, Mercy – Dyersville received funding from Dyersville Health Foundation to purchase the innovative Hercules bed, which includes a drive unit, pressure redistribution mattress, and specialized sheet. Thanks to your generous donations, our nurses and staff will be able to reposition patients in seconds with the touch of a button. This improves caregiver safety and efficiency, and also protects the dignity of our patients.

The ergonomic design eliminates bending and reaching that can cause injury. For patient safety, a two-zone exit alert system allows for better customization with regard to fall risk. Controls are located on side rails giving patients more control of their comfort.

New Equipment Benefits Oak Crest Manor Residents Funding for restorative and sensory equipment has made direct improvements for the residents of Oak Crest Manor. New equipment includes exercise equipment to increase or maintain muscle mass and coordination, dolls and plush puppies to add comfort to patients in time of anxiety, new wheel chairs to assist with resident’s independence, and anti-tip and anti-roll back equipment on wheelchairs to increase safety.
