• Dwaraka was the dwelling place of Lord Krishna. • The modern city of Dwaraka is located in the Jamnagar District of Gujarat. • It is located close to where the Gomati River merges into the Gulf of Kutch. The city lies in the westernmost part of India. 

• While Lord Krishna had spent his early childhood and youth in Mathura, he had destroyed the mighty Kamsa.

• For this, he and his tribe of followers, the Yadavas, were attacked repeatedly by Kamsa’s father-in-law, Jarasandh.

• Tired of these repeated wars, Krishna migrated with his entire clan of Yadavas to Dwaraka which was a much safer place.

• Traditional belief is that Krishna lived in Dwaraka at the end of the Dwapara Yuga.

• Dwaraka, in fact, is considered one of the seven holiest and most ancient Indian cities.

What Happened to the Dwaraka that Krishna Built?

When Lord Krishna left the Earth to go to Vaikunta, that very day Dwaraka was swept into the sea by a massive wave and the beautiful city of Dwaraka became just a memory.

• Some people say that a deity from the city Somnath called Somnat was saved.

• This deity was in the middle of the temple, without anything to support it from below or to suspend it from above.

• It was held in the highest honor among the Hindus, and whoever beheld it floating in the air was struck with amazement.

• Yes we will be able to see the original Dwaraka.

• Dr. S.R. Rao and his team

have been searching for years and they have found the Dwaraka that Lord Krishna built.

• Unfortunately since they

don’t have the money to investigate more.

• It will take a while before we might get the chance to see any of this up close.

The investigators have found many things. Some of them are :-

• An entire submerged city with rubble and masonry structures

• Pottery items • Stone cylindrical rods with vertical holes,

probably used as necklaces • Semi-precious stones and beads made of opal,

agate carnelian, teatite, quartz, malachite, and topaz

• Human and animal (deer and duck) figurines • A hand with what appears to be a carving of a

bangle• aAfew fossilized human bones and a flat rock
