General informationThe Infotainment system DVD 800

provides you with state-of-the-artin-car infotainment.

For the FM and AM wavebands theradio is equipped with twelveautomatically assignable channelpresets. Furthermore, 36 channelscan be allocated manually(waveband-independent).

Using RDS-TMC you also alwayshave the latest information on the

current traffic situation.The integrated audio player willentertain you with audio CDs andMP3 CDs, as well as with MP3 DVDs.

Furthermore, you can connectexternal data storage devices (e.g.iPod, MP3 player or USB stick) or aportable player to the Infotainmentsystem as further audio sources.

The digital sound processor provides

you with several preset equalizermodes for sound optimisation.

The navigation system with dynamicroute planning will guide you reliablyto your destination, and if desired willautomatically avoid traffic jams orother traffic problems.

Optionally, the Infotainment systemcan be operated using a steeringwheel remote control and amultifunction unit between the frontseats.

In addition the Infotainment systemcan be equipped with a mobile phoneportal.

The well thought-out design of the

Theft protectionThe Infotainment system is equippedwith an electronic security system forthe purpose of theft protection.

The Infotainment system thereforefunctions only in your vehicle and isworthless for a thief.

9 Warning

The usage of the navigationsystem does not release the driverfrom the responsibility for a correct,vigilant attitude in road traffic. Therelated traffic regulations mustalways be followed.

The Infotainment system has to beused so that the vehicle can besteered safely at all times. If indoubt stop your vehicle and

operate the Infotainment systemwhile the vehicle is stationary.

9 Warning

Only make entries (e.g. addresses)with the vehicle stationary.

If a navigation instruction shouldcontradict traffic regulations, thetraffic regulations always apply.

In some areas one-way streets andother roads and entrances (e.g.pedestrian zones) that you are notallowed to turn into are not markedon the map. In such areas theInfotainment system will issue awarning that must be accepted.

Here you must pay particularattention to one-way streets, roadsand entrances that you are notallowed to drive into.

Operation

Control elements

The Infotainment system is operatedvia function buttons, multifunctionknobs and menus that are shown onthe display.

Inputs are made optionally via:

the central control unit in theinstrument panel 3 1-5

the steering wheel remote control3

1-7 the multifunction unit between the

front seats 3 1-9

Switching the Infotainmentsystem on or off

Press the knob briefly. Afterswitching on the Infotainment sourcelast selected is active.

Automatic switch-off

If the Infotainment system has beenswitched on by means of the knobwhen the ignition was switched off,it will switch off again automatically30 minutes after the last user input.

Setting the volume

Turn knob. The current setting is

shown on the display.When the infotainment system isswitched on, the volume last selectedis set.

If necessary, the volume is limited tothe factory-set maximum switch onvolume.

The following can be set separately:

Speed compensated volume

When speed compensated volume isactivated 3 1-15 the volume isadapted automatically pro rata to thevehicle speed to compensate for

engine and tyre noise.

Mute

Press the PHONE button for a fewseconds to switch the audio sourcesto mute.

To cancel mute again: turn theknob or press the PHONE button fora few seconds again.

Entering a character sequence

To enter character sequences,

e.g. telephone numbers or roadnames:

Turn the multifunction knob to selectthe desired character.

Press the multifunction knob toconfirm the selected character.

By means of the BACK button thelast character in the charactersequence can be deleted. A longpress deletes the entire entry.

Tone settingsIn the tone settings menu the tonecharacteristic can be set differentlyfor each radio waveband and eachaudio player source.

Press the TONE button to open thetone menu.

If the displays for time or date have tobe altered:

Selectable setting options:

Set time: Changes the time shownon the display.

Set time format: Changesindication of hours between

12 hours and 24 hours.

Set date format: Changesindication of date betweenMM/DD/YYYY and DD.MM.YYYY.

Display digital clock: Switcheson/off indication of time on the

display.

RDS clock synchronization: Afterswitching on this function the timedisplay is constantly updatedautomatically via the time signal ofan RDS channel 3 2-6. RDS timesynchronisation can take a fewminutes.

Favourite lists (FAV)Stations of all wavebands can bestored manually in the favourite lists.

6 stations can be stored in eachfavourite list. The number of availablefavourite lists can be configured3 "Defining the number of favouritelists".

Storing a station

Set the station to be stored.

Briefly press the FAV button to open

a favourite list or to switch to anotherfavourite list.

To save the station in a list position:press related station button 1 ..6 for afew seconds. A sound indicates thatthe station has been saved.

Retrieving a station

Briefly press the FAV button to opena favourite list or to switch to anotherfavourite list.

Briefly press one of the stationbuttons 1 ..6, to open the station atthe related list position.

Defining number of favourite lists

The number of available favouritelists can be configured.

Press CONFIG button.

Select Radio settings and thenRadio favourites.

Select the desired number ofavailable favourite lists.

Waveband menus

Alternative facilities for stationselection are available via the AM and FM menu.

With the radio main menu activepress the multifunction knob to open

the relevant waveband menu.

All AM and FM stations saved in thefavourite lists are displayed.

Select required station.

The symbol marks the stationcurrently selected.

Station lists

Select AM or FM station list.

All receivable stations in the currentreception area are displayed.

If no station list has been createdbeforehand, the Infotainment systemperforms an automatic stationsearch.

Select required station.

The symbol marks the stationcurrently selected.

Updating stations lists

If the stations stored in the AM or FMstation list stations list can no longerbe received:

Select AM or Update FM station list.

A station search is started. Once thesearch is finished, the stationpreviously selected is played.

To cancel the station search: pressmultifunction knob

In the FM waveband the FM categorylist is also updated.

Important information on updatingthe station lists

The dual tuner in the Infotainmentsystem continuously updates thestation lists in the background. In thisway it is ensured that, e. g., thestation lists always contain thestations that can be received in thelocal area during a long motorway journey. As the automatic updatingtakes a certain amount of time, allstations that can be received may not

be available at once in the station liston a sudden change in receptionarea. In such circumstances the

Traffic announcements are playedat the preset TA volume 3 1-15.

If the radio traffic service isswitched on, the replay of CDs/DVDs and of external sources is

interrupted for the duration of thetraffic announcement.

Listening to trafficannouncements onlySwitch on the radio traffic service andturn down fully the volume of theInfotainment system.

Blocking out trafficannouncements

To block out a traffic announcement,e.g. during CD/MP3 replay:

Press TP button or the multifunctionknob.

The traffic announcement is aborted,but the radio traffic service remainsswitched on.

EON (Enhanced OtherNetworks)With EON you can listen to radiotraffic announcements even if thestation you have set does not

broadcast its own radio traffic service.If such a station is set, it is displayedin black as for radio traffic servicestations TP.

RDSRDS (Radio Data System) is aservice of the FM stations thatconsiderably facilitates the finding ofthe desired station and its fault-free

reception.

RDS stations are recognised by theprogramme names rather than thetransmission frequency (if RDS isactivated 3 2-7).

Configuring RDS

To open the menu for the RDS

configuration:Press CONFIG button.

Select Radio settings and then RDSoptions.

Switching RDS on and off Set RDS to On or Off .

The following advantages resultthrough activating RDS:

On the display the programme

name of the set station appearsinstead of its frequency

The Infotainment system alwaystunes into the best receivablebroadcasting frequency of the setstation by means of AF (AlternativeFrequency) 3 "Regionalization".

Depending on the station that isreceived the Infotainment systemdisplays radio text that can contain,for example, information about thecurrent programme.

Switching regionalization onand off (RDS must be activated forregionalization)

At certain times some RDS stationsbroadcast regionally differentprogrammes on differentfrequencies.

Set Regional to On or Off .

Only alternative frequencies (AF) withthe same regional programmes areselected.

If regionalization is switched off,alternative frequencies of the stations

are selected without regard toregional programmes.

RDS scrolling textSome RDS stations use the lines forindicating the name of theprogramme to also indicate additionalinformation. During this process the

programme name is hidden.To block out the display of theadditional information:

Set RDS-text scroll freeze to On.

Radio textIf RDS and reception of an RDSstation are activated, informationabout the programme that is currentlyreceivable and about the music track

being played at the moment aredisplayed below the programmename.

To show or hide the information:

Set Radio text to On or Off .

TA volumeThe volume of the trafficannouncements (TA) can be preset3 1-15.

Audio player CD player The Infotainment system’s audioplayer can replay audio CDs andMP3 CDs as well as MP3 DVDs.

Important informationabout audio CDs and MP3CDs/DVDs

Audio CDs with copy protection,which are not in compliance withthe audio CD standard, may notplay correctly or not at all.

Self-recorded CD-Rs and CD-RWsare more vulnerable to mishandlingthan prerecorded CDs. Correct

handling, especially in the case ofself-recorded CD-Rs and CD-RWs,must be ensured; see below.

Self-recorded CD-Rs and CD-RWsmay not play correctly or not at all.

On mixed mode CDs (combinationsof audio and data, e.g. MP3), onlythe audio tracks will be detectedand played.

Avoid leaving fingerprints when youchange CDs/DVDs.

Put CDs/DVDs back in theirsleeves immediately afterremoving them from the audioplayer in order to protect them fromdamage and dirt.

Dirt and liquids on CDs/DVDs cancontaminate the lens of the audioplayer inside the device and causefaults.

Protect CDs/DVDs from heat anddirect sunlight.

Maximum folder structure depth onan MP3 CD/DVD: 11 levels.

Maximum number of tracks thatcan be saved on an MP3 CD/DVD:1000.

Caution

Under no circumstances placeDVDs, single-CDs with a diameterof 8 cm or shaped CDs in the audioplayer.There must not be any stickers onthe CDs/DVDs. These discs may jam in the CD/DVD drive orseriously damage the drive. Anexpensive replacement of thedevice will then be necessary.

CD and MP3 replay

Push CD/DVD with the labelled side

upward into the CD/DVD slot until it ispulled in.

CD/DVD replay starts automaticallyand the AUDIO CD or AUDIO MP3menu is displayed.

If there is already a CD/DVD inthe unit, but the AUDIO CD or AUDIO MP3 menu is not active:

Press CD/AUX button.

The AUDIO CD or AUDIO MP3 menuis opened and CD/DVD replay isstarted.

Depending on the data stored onthe audio CD or MP3 CD/DVDdiffering information about theCD/DVD and the current music trackwill be shown on the display.

If the AUDIO CD orAUDIO MP3 menu does not appearafter pressing the CD/AUX button,there is still a navigation DVD in theCD/DVD slot. Press button toremove the DVD.

Selecting a CD directly

Only.pls and.m3u format playlistsare supported.

The list entries must be in the formof relative paths.

Removing CD/DVDPress button.

The CD/DVD is pushed out of the CD/DVD slot.

If the CD/DVD is not removed afterejection, it will be drawn back in againautomatically after a few seconds.

3 - 4 Audio player

Connection of externaldevices

Under the cover on the centreconsole there is an AUX socket and aUSB socket for the connection ofexternal audio sources.

The sockets must always be keptclean and dry.

Aux inputIt is possible, for example, to connectto the AUX input1 a portable

CD player with a 3.5 mm jack plug.

Operating an audio source

An audio source that is connected to

the AUX input can be operated onlyvia the control elements of the audiosource.

USB port An MP3 player or a USB stick can beconnected to the USB port2.

Important information The MP3 players and USB sticks

connected must comply with the

USB Mass Storage Classspecification (USB MSC).

Only MP3 players and USB stickswith a sector size of 512 bytes inthe FAT file system are supported.

The maximum length of the USBstick is 70 mm. A longer stick would

be damaged on folding down thearmrest.

Operating a USB data source

The data sources connected via USBare operated using the Infotainmentsystem; operation is the same as foran audio MP3 CD/DVD 3 3-2.

Removing data source fromUSB port

To avoid the loss of data, thefollowing steps must be performed:

Press the multifunction knob and thenselect Eject device.

The data source can be removedfrom the USB port.

Connecting andoperating an iPod An iPod can be connected to theInfotainment system. The controlsand menus on the Infotainment

system are then used for operation.

iPod models supported iPod

iPod nano (1st/2nd/3rd generation)

iPod with video (5th/5.5 generation)

iPod classic (6th generation)

iPod touch

There may be problems with

operation and function in thefollowing situations:

When connecting an iPod on whicha more recent version of thefirmware is installed than issupported by the Infotainmentsystem.

When connecting an iPod on whichfirmware from other providers(e.g. Rockbox) is installed.

Connecting iPodPrior to connecting the device thevolume on the iPod must be set toaround 90% to ensure optimalvolume control using the Infotainment

system.

Then connect the iPod headphonesoutput to the AUX input1 using theaudio cable supplied (in the sleeve ofthe navigation DVD).

Then connect the iPod USB cable tothe USB port2.

The iPod connected via AUX and USB

is operated using the Infotainmentsystem; operation is largely the sameas for an audio MP3 CD/DVD 3 3-2.

In the following, only the aspects ofoperation of the iPod that aredifferent/additional are described.

iPod functions

Depending on the data saved, there

are various options for selecting andplaying tracks.

Press the multifunction knob and thenselect Search to display the optionsavailable.

Select desired option to display therelated submenu.

Removing an iPod from theAUX and USB port

To avoid the loss of data, thefollowing steps must be performed:

Press the multifunction knob and thenselect Eject iPod.

The iPod can be removed from the AUX and USB port.

Navigation IntroductionThe navigation system will reliablyguide you to your destination withoutthe need to read maps, even if youhave no local knowledge whatsoever.

The current traffic situation is takeninto account in the route calculation ifdynamic route guidance is used. Forthis purpose the Infotainment systemreceives traffic announcements in thecurrent reception area via RDS-TMC.

The navigation system cannot,however, take into account trafficincidents, traffic regulations changedat short notice and hazards or

problems that arise suddenly (e.g.road works).

Important information onthe function of thenavigation systemThe position and movement of the

vehicle are detected by thenavigation system using sensors.The distance travelled is determinedfrom the vehicle’s speedometersignal, turning movements on bendsby a gyro sensor. The position isdetermined using the GPS satellites(Global Positioning System).

By comparing the sensor signalswith the digital maps on the

navigation DVD, it is possible todetermine the position with anaccuracy of approx. 10 m.

Caution

The usage of the navigation systemdoes not release the driver from theresponsibility for a correct, vigilant

The system will also work with poorGPS reception, however, theaccuracy of the determination of theposition will be reduced, resulting inincorrect position messages.

After the entry of the destinationaddress or points of interest (nearestpetrol station, hotel, etc.) the route iscalculated from the current location tothe destination selected.

The route guidance is provided byvoice output and an arrow, as well aswith the aid of a multi-colour mapdisplay or a combination of twodisplays.

TMC traffic information systemand dynamic route guidanceThe TMC traffic information systemreceives all current traffic informationfrom TMC radio stations. If dynamicroute guidance is active, thisinformation is included in thecalculation of the overall route.During this process, the route isplanned such that traffic problems

related to pre-selected criteria 3 4-24are avoided.

If there is a traffic problem duringactive route guidance, depending onthe pre-setting a message appearsas to whether the route should bechanged.

TMC traffic information is displayedin the route guidance display assymbols or as detailed text on theTMC messages menu.

To be able to use TMC trafficinformation, the system has toreceive TMC stations in the relatedregion.

Dynamic route guidance only works iftraffic information is received via the

TMC traffic information system.The dynamic route guidance functioncan be deactivated 3 4-17.

Important information aboutthe map material on the DVDThe complete map material is tooextensive to load it into the system’smemory.

For international navigation, insertnavigation DVD or load the relateddata for the regions into the systemmemory. The network of main roadsin Europe is loaded automatically.It may be necessary to delete othermap material in the system memory.

Once the preferred map material hasbeen loaded, the DVD can beremoved so that the drive can be

used for playing music.Map data add / remove 3 4-24.

Dynamic route guidance

If dynamic route guidance is active,the entire current traffic situation that

the Infotainment system receivesover TMC is included in thecalculation of the route. The route issuggested taking into account alltraffic problems or restrictions as perthe pre-set criteria 3 4-17.

In the case of a traffic problem(e.g. traffic jam, road shut) on theroute driven, a message is displayedand a voice message output

indicating the nature of the problem.The driver can decide whether todrive around the traffic problem

taking the suggested change to theroute or to carry on through the trafficproblem.

Nearby traffic problems are alsoreported if route guidance is notactive.

If route guidance is active, the systemcontinuously checks, based on thetraffic information, whether it wouldbe better to recalculate the route ortake an alternative route taking intoaccount the current traffic situation.

If route guidance is active, youcan choose between automaticrecalculation or recalculation of theroute after accepting a prompt 3 4-17.

The activation and deactivation ofdynamic route guidance, as well ascriteria for the calculation of the routeand other settings for navigation, aremade on the Navigation options menu.

For this purpose, press NAV button,then select Navigation options,Route criteria, Dynamic guidance 3

4-17.

Dynamic route guidance only works iftraffic information is received via theRDS-TMC traffic information system.

The possible delay due to atraffic problem calculated by theInfotainment system is based on datathat the system receives via the RDS-TMC station currently set. The actualdelay may be different to thatcalculated.

The map data can be loaded from theDVD into the Infotainment system’sinternal memory on the Map data

add / remove menu.The maps to be saved are selectedand marked using the multifunctionknob. The selection of the maps to beremoved from the memory must becleared. Delete and load maps usingthe Confirm command.

The copying process may take sometime depending on the amount ofdata to be copied.

The free memory is displayed in thetop line.

Route guidance is not possible at thesame time as maps are added orremoved.

The duration of the copying processgiven is a rough estimate that doesnot take into account any other active

functions, e.g. playing MP3 files.

If the copying process is interruptedby switching off the system, thecopying process must be restartedmanually after the system is switchedon.

The related map material alreadycopied will be deleted from thememory if the copying process iscancelled manually. This process cantake some time.

Erase map data memoryIf navigation is not possible using thedata from the internal memory, orthere is an error message on copyingmap material, this command shouldbe used to quickly and completelyerase the internal memory

The mobile telephone portal can beoperated optionally with voice control.

The mobile telephone can beoperated via an external antenna byinserting it into an adapter that is

specific to the phone.

Not all mobile phone portal functionsare supported by every mobilephone. The possible phone functionsdepend on the relevant mobile phoneand network provider. Telephone connectionThe mobile phone portal switchesitself on and off via the ignition. Whenthe ignition is turned off you can turnthe mobile phone portal on and off viathe Infotainment system.

A connection can be set up betweenthe mobile phone and the mobilephone portal via Bluetooth™. For thispurpose your mobile phone mustsupport Bluetooth™.

To be able to set up a Bluetooth™connection the mobile phone portalmust be switched on and Bluetooth™must be activated.

For information on the Bluetooth™function of your mobile phone pleaserefer to the operating instructions forthe mobile phone.

Telephone main menu

As soon as the mobile phone portal isswitched on and the mobile phone is

logged on, the telephone main menuis displayed on the display.

Telephone specific adapter If you are using a telephone specificadapter, the mobile phone isoperated via the external antenna.The adapter also serves as acharging station.

Do only use adapters that areapproved for your vehicle and yourmobile phone.

For each adapter there are specificinstallation instructions that areenclosed with the product. Beforeinstalling the adapter please informyourself about the exact installationprocedure.

Installing the adapter

Fasten the adapter to the base plate.

Make sure that the contacts arecorrectly connected. An engagingsound must be audible when theadapter engages.

To be able to set up a Bluetooth™connection with the mobile phone

Introduction As soon as a connection viaBluetooth™ has been set up betweenyour mobile phone and the

Infotainment system, you can alsooperate many functions of yourmobile phone via the Infotainmentsystem.

Via the Infotainment system, you can,e.g., set up a connection to the callnumbers stored in your mobile phoneor change the call numbers.

As a rule operation via the mobilephone continues to be possible, e.g.

taking a call or adjusting the volume. After setup of a connection betweenthe mobile phone and theInfotainment system the mobilephone data is transmitted to theInfotainment system. This can takesome time depending on the phonemodel. During this period operation ofthe mobile phone is possible via theInfotainment system only to a

restricted extent.

Bear in mind that you can makeand receive calls with the mobilephone, if it is in a service area witha sufficiently strong signal. Undercertain circumstances emergencycalls cannot be made on all mobilephone networks; it is possible thatthey cannot be made when certainnetwork services and/or telephonefunctions are active. You canenquire about this with the localnetwork operators.

The emergency call number candiffer depending on the region

and country. Please enquirebeforehand about the correctemergency call number for therelevant region.

To start a dialling process:select the desired call list, an entry in

the call list and finally the desiredtelephone number.

Incoming callWhen there is an incoming call amenu is displayed for you to accept ordecline the telephone call.


Functions during a

telephone callIf you currently have a telephone call,press the multifunction knob to opena submenu.

Various options are availabledepending on the situation andfunctional scope of the mobile phone:

Hang up: disconnect the telephoneconnection.

Call number: enter a telephonenumber to make a secondtelephone call or perform DTMF(touch-tone dialling), e.g. for voicemail or telephone banking.

Detach call: detach the connection

to a conference participant in atelephone conference.

Merge calls: merge two calls whenthere are several active calls.

Switch calls: switch between calls,if there are several calls.

Mute call: mute a call.

Voice controlThe voice control of the mobile phoneportal enables you to operate severalfunctions of the mobile phone viavoice input. It recognises commandsand numeric sequences

independently of the relevantspeaker. The commands andnumeric sequences can be spokenwithout a voice pause between theindividual words.

You can also save telephonenumbers using a name of yourchoice (voice tag). The telephoneconnection can be set up using thisname.

In the event of incorrect operation orincorrect codes the voice controlgives you acoustic feedback andrequests you to re-enter the desiredcommand. Apart from this, the voicecontrol acknowledges importantcommands and will enquire ifnecessary.

In order that conversations inside thevehicle do not lead to unintentionaltriggering of the mobile phone, thevoice control does not start until it hasbeen activated.

Activating voice controlTo activate the voice control of themobile phone portal press the

button on the steering wheel.

For the duration of the dialogue anyaudio source that is active is mutedand any traffic news fade-in iscancelled.

Adjusting the volume for

voice outputTurn the volume knob on theInfotainment system or press the + / - buttons on the steering wheel.

Cancelling the dialogueThere are various possibilities ofdeactivating the voice control andcancelling the dialogue:

Press the button on the steeringwheel.

With the aid of the voice control themobile phone can be operated veryconveniently via voice input. It issufficient to activate the voice controland say the desired command. After input of the command theInfotainment system guides youthrough the dialogue with appropriatequestions and feedback to achievethe desired action.
