The Dutch Brazilian Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit

Association in accordance to Brazilian laws, founded in 1952,

with the objective to promote and assist trade and investments

between Brazil and the Netherlands, committed to the concept

of open and competetive market economies, respecting social

and environmental sustainability.

To reach such objectives, the Chamber develops

"networking" initiatives, produces publications, organizes

events, and provides services to collective and individual com-

panies, maintaining good relationships with governmental enti-

ties, industrial- and trade organizations as well as other organi-

zations, in both countries.

It self-sustains its organization with membership contribu-

tions, sponsorships and reimbursements of expenses.

Its board of directors is composed of executives who repre-

sent important parties in the bilateral commercial relationship

between Brazil and the Netherlands, regardless of their origin

or nationality.

Its greatest added value is in the strategic, administrative,

legal, fiscal and practical assistance in all other fields to struc-

ture business, whereto it counts on many specialized service

suppliers among its member companies.

How to get around

Bikes

The country is characterized by its flat

landscape, short distances, a mild climate

and excellent infrastructure, which makes

biking very popular. The Netherlands

counts with more than 32,000 kilometers of

bike paths around the country, besides the

bike paths, the country also has 30,000

kilometers of well signaled biking routes

networks; the Dutch are used to cyclists in

traffic. It is possible to rent bicycles in many places, including near large train stations, in city

centers, and often at hotels and accommodations as well.

Train

The Railway Network counts with about 400

train stations, making moving around the

country very simple. The Railway network is

extensive and the trains are modern, so even

the longest travels are comfortable. Since

Holland is a relatively small country (even

smaller when comparing it to Brazil), you can

travel from Amsterdam to Utrecht in just 30

minutes, for example.

Like Brazilian historical train station Luz, the

Netherlands also has historical stations such

as Haarlem. Even more similarly to Brazil’s modern train line, the Yellow Line, Holland counts

with big stations like the already mentioned Amsterdam and Utrecht. Also, likewise Brazil, it is

possible to take bicycles to trains, but it is only allowed outside peak hours (9am to 4:30pm and

after 6pm), to take a bicycle along the train travels, it is also necessary to buy a bicycle day ticket

at a NS ticketing machine, which costs 6 euros. Your bicycle can be stored in the indicated areas

on the train, which you can recognize by the bicycle label on the train’s side.

Important Info! The weather Being a coastal country, the Netherlands has a typical moderate marine climate; meaning that it’s

not too cold even during the winter but not too warm during the summer, and due to the sea’s

influence, there’s always the possibility of rain. Keep that in mind when planning your trip!

Passports & Visa Entering Holland usually requires only a valid passport. The Dutch Embassy or Consulate may be checked whether there is a need for a visa, the Embassy should also be contacted by candidates of Netherlands Working Holiday Visa, where they’ll provide the necessary forms.

Credit Cards

All major credit cards are

accepted widely, but not

everywhere. Cash-on-card

services are available from

selected American Express,

Diners Club, MasterCard and

VisaCard addresses. These cards

are also accepted by all GWK

currency exchange outlets and Change Express Offices.

Tipping

In The Netherlands, Value Added Tax and service charges are included in

check in hotels, restaurants, shops and taxis. Tips for extra service are

always appreciated but not required. It is customary to give taxi drivers and

waiters a tip of about 10 percent. Many public restrooms have an attendant

who is usually tipped EUR 0,50.

ATMs

Dutch ATMS accept most credit

cards, even the smallest villages

offer many ATMS that operate 24

hours per day

Banking Hours

Most banks and post offices are open

from Monday to Friday between 9

a.m. and 5 p.m. Only major banks and post offices are open on Saturday.

GWK Travelex is open every day of the week. Most GWK Travelex offices

are located nearby train and bus stations.

Changing Money

You can exchange money at banks, post offices and exchange offices in

Holland. Many hotels also offer this facility. And, of course, you can easily get

money with your debit card from one of the many ATMs located throughout

Holland.

Cultural Perceptions of Foreigners in Rio de Janeiro

The Director Brazil of our Member-company Atlas Professionals, Mr. Joris Steinberg offers copies of the Cultural Study he conducted during seven months at the COPPEAD Graduate School of Business of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro as part of his MBA study to other Dutcham members and interested parties. His research can be used for foreigners planning to come to Rio de Janeiro for an international working experience, Brazilians, and companies based in Brazil in order to learn about possible difficulties that may occur as a cause of cultural differences, as the Study addresses not only the Brazilian Culture but also the country’s Organizational Culture and how it differs from what foreigners may be used to.

Copies are available for purchase on the following link: https://www.vivaletra.com/store/gb/book/cultural-perceptions-of-foreigners-working-in-rio-de-janeiro/isbn/978-3-659-81535-5

Dutcham Members and the Olympics

On August 5th, Brazil hosted the biggest sports celebration in the world, The Olympics, which

finished on 21st of the same month. Now on September we have the Paralympics, which started

on 8th. Celebrating the world’s best athletes, we would also give praise to our member

companies, who helped with many different aspects.

Arcadis, for example, managed the Olympic Park project, the Park is known as “The Heart of the

Rio Games of 2016” and it’s the main stage for the competitions. It will hold 16 olympic sports.

After the Olympics, the Park will be transformed into a sports complex and educational facility for

the Rio students and athletes.

Philips, on other hand, announced back in June the completion of four major public lighting

projects for Rio de Janeiro, as the city improves its infrastructure; “As the global leader in lighting

we are excited to partner with Rio de Janeiro in preparing the city for its international visitors

while at the same time providing a lasting legacy to its growing population for the years to come.

The improvements LED lighting delivers, such as increased safety and reduced energy bills, are

enabling the city to tackle economic, environmental and social issues at the same time,” states

Yoon Young Kim, General Manager, Philips Lighting Brazil.

The new port area and two highways get a LED makeover

The port region, called Porto Maravilha, was revitalized by Concessionária Porto Novo.

As part of the renovation project, the area was fitted with 750 of Philips GreenVision

Xceed LED, which will provide up to 50 percent energy savings compared to

conventional lighting. In addition to this technology, both tunnels in the region have been

equipped with Philips LED Tunnel BWP350 lighting fixtures, which ensure safe lighting

levels for drivers.

The entire LED lighting system installed at the Port is managed by Philips CityTouch, a

connected street lighting system that is integrated with the Operation Control Center

(CCO) of Concessionária Porto Novo, enabling remote monitoring and control of each

individual light point and scheduling of maintenance. The system also enables remote

adjustment of lighting levels according to the specific needs of the area, which

significantly reduces electricity consumption.

Arco Metropolitano, a highway around the Metropolitan Region of Rio de Janeiro that

connects the Itaboraí region to the Itaguaí Port, has been equipped with 4,360 Philips

GreenVision Xceed Solar lighting fixtures. Each luminaire has an integrated solar panel,

which converts sunlight into electricity and provides a sustainable lighting option. Philips

Lighting participated in this project in partnership with Kyocera Solar, a company

specialized in manufacturing and distribution of solar electric energy solutions.

Another important highway Elevado do Joá, located in the western part of the city and

connecting Largo da Barra to São Conrado, uses 986 Philips FlowBase LED tunnel lights

and 369 Philips GreenVision Xceed lights to reduce energy consumption and to provide

uniform and efficient lighting in the four tunnels along the road.

RFB DEFINES PROFIT MARGINS TO BE USED IN THE CALCULATION OF TRANSFER PRICE

In May 2016, the Brazilian Federal Revenue Office (RFB) published tax ruling 63 on the application of the profit margins to be used in the calculation of the transfer price using the Resale Price Method – RPM.

In order to calculate the parameter price by this method, the law establishes presumed profit margins (from 20% to 40%) that are determined depending on the industry. In order to clarify a doubt about which “industry” should be used (taxpayer/importer or domestic purchaser of the goods), RFB clarified that the criteria to determine the profit margin used in RPM is the industry of the taxpayer/importer, not that of the domestic purchaser.
