3. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Basic Use: The Duro-Last Single-Ply Roofing System is a prefabricated waterproofing system used in the following applications: • Re-cover over existing systems • New construction • Both combustible and

noncombustible decks

Limitations: Duro-Last membrane must not be installed over assemblies with saturated under-lying insulation or directly over existing incompatible roofs without proper separation. Composition and Materials: Duro-Last membrane is a proprietary thermoplastic formulation consisting of resins, plasticizers, stabilizers, fungicides, flame-retardants, and U.V. absorbers, which is laminated to a weft-inserted polyester fabric. It is available in white, tan, and gray. Sizes: For ease of handling and reduced field seams and faster installation time, Duro-Last Roofing, Inc. factory welds material in large sheets up to 2,500 square feet (232 square meters) as specified by architects, contractors, or installers. The system weighs .25 lbs. per square foot. Accessory Components: Duro-Last Roofing, Inc. produces a complete line of standard and custom-fabricated accessories. These accessories are made from the same material as the deck membrane and are made in a Duro-Last factory, not on the roof. Standard Accessories: Round pipe flashings from 1" (2.5 cm) to 15" (38 cm) in diameter, inside and outside corners, two-way roof vents, roof drain liners, gravel/water stop with factory welded Duro-Last skirts,

termination bar, and fascia with cover and joint clips. Custom- Made Accessories: Round pipe flashings greater than 15" (38 cm), parapet wall flashings, scuppers and curbs for all types of roof penetrations. (For example: HVAC units, skylights, chimneys, etc.) If there is a need for a custom flashing that has not been mentioned, provide a drawing and Duro-Last will manufacture it. Applicable Standards: Underwriters Laboratories, Inc., Class A, B, and C (R-10128); Factory Mutual Research Class 1-60, 1-90, 1-105, 1-150, 1-210; Miami-Dade County, FL; City of Los Angeles, CA; City of Denver, CO; HUD Material Release 1223; City of New York, NY 421-90-M and 422-90-M; IBC: ICC Legacy Reports (NER-227) -ICBO (ER-5694).

5. INSTALLATION Duro-Last Roofing, Inc. provides detailed application instructions and training for roofing contractors and consulting services to architects, engineers, and specifiers. The following are general instructions for installing the Duro-Last Roofing System. Deck Surface Preparation: The substrate on which Duro-Last membrane is to be applied must be clean, smooth, free of sharp edges, loose debris, and standing water. Gravel should be leveled. All surface preparations must be done in strict accordance with the Duro-Last application specifications. Insulation: Insulation must be laid on the deck and cut neatly around all penetrations. It must then be mechanically attached with approved fasteners according to the Duro-Last specifications. Do not lay more insulation than can be covered in the same day. Stagger the insulation boards 50% from row to row. No gaps to exceed 1/4". Placement: Using the roof layout diagram, select the proper marked and rolled premanufactured sheet of Duro-Last membrane. Orient the membrane so the fastening tabs are perpendicular to the ribs or corrugations of steel deck, or to the width of prestressed concrete “T” slabs. Secure the membrane to the roof deck through the fastening tab with approved fasteners and plates, in accordance with Duro-Last specifications. Unfold the sheet,

thus covering the fastening tab. Continue unfolding until the next fastening tab appears. Fasten this tab to the deck and repeat the above process until the complete sheet is installed.

Penetrations: During the aforementioned procedure, make cutouts in the membrane for protrusions. Fasten around cutouts with Duro-Last approved fasteners. The skirt of the factory-fabricated accessories when welded to the deck membrane will cover these cutouts. Breather Vents: One Duro-Last two-way breather vent must be installed for each 1,000 square feet (90 square meters). Duro-Last vents must be installed according to Duro-Last specifications. Parapet Walls: Duro-Last custom fabricated parapet wall flashings are designed for each individual application. Secure through the fastening tab at the bottom of the wall using approved fasteners and plates. The factory-welded skirt will cover the fasteners when it is heat welded to the deck sheet.

DURO-LAST A.R.P. MEMBRANE Description: Duro-Last® A.R.P. Membrane (black in color) is fabricated from a high tenacity, low shrink weft inserted 9 x 9, 1000 Denier polyester fabric that has been coated with a proven thermoplastic alloy. This specially formulated permanent thermoplastic alloy does not have conventional plasticizers that migrate from the coating. It is specially formulated to be compatible with asphalt-based products. It is resistant to ultraviolet rays and microorganisms. The tear and puncture strength of the polyester fabric are superb, and it is impervious to most caustic chemicals, petroleum products, animal fats and acids. It shows no ill effects from either heat or cold. The Duro-Last® A.R.P. Membrane is non-curing to provide excellent weldability for the entire life of the system. A patch, curb, stack or any other necessary additions or alterations can easily be accomplished by heat (hot air) welding the new Duro-Last® membrane\accessory to the existing membrane. Heat (hot air) welding is used to bond all field seams. The welds can be made with a hand-held unit or a walker welder. The hot air seaming eliminates the need for chemicals, torches and other unsafe, non-manageable seaming systems. Installation: A.R.P. membrane is available for use only in details requiring Duro-Last® to be tied-in to asphalt roofing.

DURO-LAST PARAPET FLASHING Description: Duro-Last® Parapet Membrane (available in white, gray and tan colors) is fabricated from a high tenacity, low shrink, weft inserted 18 x 14, 1000 denier polyester fabric that has been coated with a proven thermoplastic alloy. The prefabricated parapet flashing membrane is resistant to ultraviolet rays and microorganisms. The tear and puncture strength of the polyester fabric are superb, and it is impervious to most caustic chemicals, including those found in nature, such as animal fats and oils. It shows no ill effects from either heat or cold. The Duro-Last® Parapet Flashing Membrane is non-curing to provide excellent weldability for the entire life of the system. A patch, curb, stack or necessary additions or alterations can easily be accomplished by heat welding the new Duro-Last® membrane\accessory to the existing membrane. Heat (hot air) welding is used to bond all field seams. The welds can be made with a hand-held unit or walker welder. The hot air seaming eliminates the need for chemicals, torches and other unsafe, non-manageable seaming systems. Installation: Changes in plane must be mechanically fastened with a prefabricated parapet wall flashing, a reverse tab, or continuous deck membrane. A prefabricated wall flashing can be used to flash all changes in plane. A reverse tab may be used for flashings parallel to the tab direction. Continuous deck membrane may be used for flashings which are perpendicular to the tab direction and satisfy the following criteria: The flashing is fastened to both the deck and the base of the wall, and all wall tabs are fastened at the same spacing as the deck membrane, but 18-inches (.45m) on center, max. For all parapet flashings, the minimum vertical height of a parapet wall flashing is 8-inches (.2m). Poly-Plates or metal plates may be used in combination with Duro-Last® fasteners to secure the fastening tab at the base of the wall. The fastener spacing shall be 18-inches on center, max. Note: If the distance from the last tab to the top of the parapet wall is 28-inches or less, additional membrane may be added to cover the top of the wall without adding more tabs.

PRODUCT DATA SHEET

DURO-LAST CURB FLASHINGS Description: Duro-Last® Prefabricated Curb Flashing(s) (available in white, gray and tan colors) are fabricated from a high tenacity, low shrink, weft inserted 18 x 14, 1000 Denier polyester fabric that has been coated with a proven thermoplastic alloy. For more information on the types ofmembranes available, see the membrane product data sheets. Curb flashing is easily heat (hot air) welded to the Duro-Last® deck membrane. Hot air seaming eliminates the need for chemicals, torches and other unsafe, non-manageable seaming systems. All Duro-Last® Curb Flashings are prefabricated using Duro-Last® Patented outside corners to eliminate field welds in the critical corner area(s). The charts below show the minimum curb sizes available for each of the available curb styles. Installation: Custom prefabricated curb flashings are required to flash all square or rectangular roof penetrations. Curb flashings shall be individually ordered and manufactured to fit each roof top curb. The deck membrane shall be installed and mechanically attached around the perimeter of the penetration at the same fastening pattern as the deck membrane tabs with a maximum of 18-inches on center and no less than one fastener per side. It is not necessary to place fasteners at the corners. The flashing must extend a minimum of 8-inches (.2 m) in vertical height, excluding the curb with top flashing. The flashings may be terminated with termination bar or extended onto the inside of the curb. (See details 4010 & 4020). The curb with top flashing does not require termination. Notes to Remember: • When ordering Open Curbs you do not need to add the

Duro-Last® membrane required to weld the curb closed. • A flashing for a canted curb should be ordered using

the dimensions above the cant. A flashing with a 12-inch skirt will provide the necessary membrane to cover the cant.

• A curb with a top can be no greater than 5-feet in both width and length and can only be ordered closed.

This sheet provides the information for ordering standard curbs. However, you can order any variety such as a Canted Curb with a Top. Add 1/4” to all dimensions for a better fitting flashing.

DURO-LAST LIQUID AUGER Description: The Liquid Auger fastener is a composite nylon and fiberglass screw that has a 3-inch diameter head (stress plate) with an internal hex head drive. The stress plate is part of the design for easy installation. The fastener can be installed with a 9/16-inch hex-head screw gun adapter bit that is supplied with each order. Liquid Auger fasteners are designed to attach insulation and roofing membrane to lightweight concrete, cementituous wood fiber, and gypsum decks. If you need an enhanced pull value, the fastener has a hollow shaft through which epoxy Pliogrip 7779L/220 (220 ml) may be injected using a Dual Cartridge caulk gun, item #1189. The fluid flows down through the shank and out the disbursement outlets into the surrounding substrate where it hardens. When installed on cementitious wood fiber, Pliogrip will fill approximately 20 fasteners. On all other decks, it will fill approximately 40 fasteners. The Liquid Auger exceeds FM 4470 specifications.

Duro-Last stocks Liquid Augers in the sizes shown below. The fastener length range is 3-inches (76 mm) to 7-inches (178 mm), in ½-inch (13 mm) increments.

Installation: The Liquid Auger fastener is designed for use with the Duro-Last roofing system. A 7/16” - 9/16” pilot hole is required on gypsum and lightweight concrete decks depending on density of the deck. No pilot hole is required on cementitous wood fiber decks, unless a re-roof application exists where breaking through an existing roof such as BUR or other bituminous asphalt roofs is required. The fastener must penetrate into the deck a minimum of 2-inches. For maximum pullout resistance on cementituous wood fiber, inject 10cc (about 2 pumps from the caulk gun) of Pliogrip®

DURO-LAST AUGER FASTENER Description: The Duro-Last Auger Fasteners are made from glass-filled nylon with an internal square drive. A specially designed plate and fastener combination is manufactured with one way tabs on the underside of the fastener head that lock into the ratchet teeth of the 2-inch (52 mm) metal plate. The 2-inch (52 mm) metal plate is manufactured with barbs that maximize membrane holding power. The auger fasteners are designed to attach insulation and roofing membrane to cementitious wood fiber, gypsum, and lightweight concrete decks. Duro-Last® stocks the auger fastener in various sizes. The smallest available fastener is 2-inches (52 mm) while the largest is 14-inches (356 mm). Fasteners 2"-8" are sold in increments of 0.5 inches (13 mm), in length. Fasteners with lengths greater than 10-inches (254 mm) are available byspecial order only. The auger fasteners surpass the FM 4470 specifications and shall be used to fasten both insulation and Duro-Last® membrane. Installation: Pre-drilling is required into gypsum and lightweight concrete decks. Bit size will vary from 7/16” - 9/16” depending on density of the deck. Cementitious wood fiber decking is not to be pre-drilled, although in a recover situation, the existing roofing will require pre-drilling. Auger fasteners must penetrate into the deck 1½-inches, minimum. On Factory Mutual insured projects, minimum penetration is 2-inches.

SUBSTRATE AND INSULATION/RECOVERY BOARD PREPARATION: • Insulation adhesive should be applied when air

and surface temperatures are 40°F or higher. It is recommended that adhesive be stored at 70°F prior to application in cold weather.

• Surfaces to be bonded together must be free of dirt, debris, and other contaminants.

• Surfaces can be moist or damp, but must be free of standing water.

• When re-roofing over mineral cap, surface should be swept, power washed or vacuumed to remove loose material.

• Cans must not be opened until time of use. ADHESIVE APPLICATION: Application rate will vary between perimeter and field areas. Refer to Table 1 for width of perimeter areas and application rates. For specific wind uplift designs contact Duro-Last Engineering Services Department for assistance with application rates. At time of use, unscrew cap on cans, remove moisture seal and attach plastic pour spouts. Mount cans to cart and secure tightly. If cart mounting plates do not fit securely against cans, use pliers or channel locks to align plates properly. Adjust cans to apply beads at spacing listed in Table 1 with the outside beads placed 6” in from edge of board line. Punch a vent hole in the cans with an awl. Flip lever up to begin applying adhesive to the deck, pacing cart speed to apply a 3/8" to ½" bead. Adhesive will be thicker and pour more slowly in colder temperatures. Spouts are designed for summer application, and in cooler weather cart pace may be increased by cutting larger openings in the spout. Cart may be pulled or pushed down the deck. Replace cart lever in down position to stop flow of adhesive. It is recommended that insulation or recovery boards be installed as soon as adhesive beads have been applied to substrate. However, board installation may be delayed until the adhesive begins to change from a translucent, amber liquid to cream color.

DURO-LAST® PLIO-DECK® INSULATION ADHESIVEIn 5 - 15 minutes the adhesive will change to a cream color and will begin to foam. The insulation or recovery boards may rise slightly from the surface of the substrate as a result of this foaming, and may be walked on to re-instate contact with the substrate. Typically, one or two walk-ins will assure a smooth insulation or recovery board surface for membrane application; however, in cases of high moisture content several walk-ons may be required. Warped or cupped boards may also require several walk-ons. It is recommended that for stubborn warps or cups a weight be applied until the adhesive has set. Optionally, a single fastener may be applied to hold down stubborn warps or cups. It is not unusual for the adhesive to foam up through the joint lines of the boards, and excess foam may be trimmed away after the adhesive has set.

Duro-Last roofing membrane may be applied as soon as the boards have become firmly attached to the substrate, typically in 30 minutes. Times will vary with ambient temperature and moisture conditions. IN CORNERS OR AREAS WITH MANY PENETRATIONS: Unscrew cap on can, remove moisture seal and attach plastic pour spout. Punch breather hole(s) in top of then can and hand apply a 3/8" to ½" bead of \adhesive. Protective gloves are recommended to prevent adhesive from sticking to skin. CLEANUP: • Uncured adhesive may be removed with acetone.• Cured adhesive is not easily removed. PRECAUTIONS: • Wear protective gloves and safety glasses when

handling this adhesive. Read and follow all guidelines in the Material Data Safety Sheet (MSDS).

• Unused adhesive in open containers may be usable at a later date if it is still translucent, amber in color and pours freely. However, once a can is opened and exposed to moisture the remaining shelf life is unpredictable and generally very short. It is recommended that all adhesive be used within one hour of breaking the moisture seal of the can.

DURO-LAST® ULTRA-FOLD® TPM UNDERLAYMENTDescription: Ultra-Fold TPM consists of two multi-ply, high barrier film facers which are laminated to an expanded polystyrene (EPS) core in a fanfold configuration. Ultra-Fold TPM is available in ½-inch thickness, 48-inch width and 50-length, and has a cut fold every 24-inches. Basic Use: Ultra-Fold TPM has been designed to protect PVC membranes from gravel and other residual materials on roof decks which might puncture membrane. EPS is a closed cell, resilient, lightweight foamed plastic roof insulation. Having the facers heat laminated to the EPS results in a moisture resistant bond. This multi-ply, high density film provides a barrier to PVC Plasticizers, which might otherwise attack the EPS core. Ultra-Fold TPM is made of inert organic materials. It does not provide nutritive value to plants, animals, or microorganisms. It will not rot and is highly resistant to mildew. Environmental Data: Ultra-Fold TPM does not contain Chloro-fluorocarbons (CFCs) or Hydrochlorofluoro-carbons (HCFCs). The EPS core is manufactured with Hydro-Carbon blowing agents. Note: Like many other foam insulation material, Ultra-Fold TPM is combustible. It should not be left exposed to flame or other ignition sources. Installation: Ultra-Fold TPM should be unfolded and placed over existing roof. Fasten Ultra-Fold TPM to Duro-Last® specifications. Membrane can then be placed over this assembly and mechanical fasteners installed as per Duro-Last®specifications. (See Detail# 1030 for fastening requirements)

DURO-LAST NOVA ROLLOUT Description: Nova Rollout is a lightweight and durable commercial roofing underlayment. The roll is manufactured entirely from pre-consumer, recycled, synthetic textile fibers. The needle-punched textile roll is resin-bonded for added strength and durability. The outstanding puncture and tear resistance allows installation directly over gravel-surfaced built-up roofs (stone size 1/4 in. - 3/8 in.), as well as smooth built-up, coal tar pitch (20 years or older) and many more. A single 12 ft. x 60 ft. roll – 720 square feet – will quickly cover large areas. By comparison, it would take 3½ bundles of fanfold product or 22½ sheets of recovery board 4 ft. x 8 ft. to cover the same area. Installation: Nova Rollout is installed with the resin-bonded smooth side facing upward. Rolls may be installed with a 3-inch overlap along each edge or butted together edge to edge. The product is installed using Duro-Last 2-inch Poly-Plates, insulation plates, or 3-inch Metal Plates. Fasteners should be installed no more than 1 ½ in. in from the edge. If rolls are overlapped, place approved Duro-Last fasteners on each overlap a maximum of 15 ft. o.c. This will require at least 5 fasteners per roll. If the rolls are butted together edge to edge, place approved Duro-Last fasteners along each edge a maximum of 15 ft. o.c. This will require at least 10 fasteners per roll. Note: When installing over a gravel surface seal all seams (butted) with duct tape. Install fasteners along the base of walls and curbs at a maximum of 15 ft. o.c. Install a minimum of 1 fastener for curb or wall sections less than 4 ft in length and a minimum of 2 fasteners for sections between 4 ft. and 15 ft. in length. You may need to install fasteners closer than 15 ft. o.c. at the top of parapet walls. The rolls should be stored elevated and covered to keep them dry. Use tarps, if necessary, to protect from rain. Only install as much Nova Rollout as can be covered by the roof membrane by the end of the day or onset of inclement weather.

DURO-LAST PARAPET WALL VENT Description: Duro-Last parapet wall vents are fabricated from aluminum and are attached to a patented prefabricated 6” boot (available in white, gray, and tan) fabricated from a high tenacity, low shrink weft inserted (18 x 14) 1000 Denier polyester fabric that has been laminated with a proven thermoplastic alloy (PVC) sheet. Parapet wall vents are designed to vent air space in a parapet wall or mansard area. The mansard space should be ventilated using static, balanced ventilation systems with a minimum of 1 square foot (0.09 m2) of net-free ventilation per 150 square feet (14 m2) of mansard space (1:150 ventilation ratio) measured at the mansard attic floor (e.g., ceiling). Approximately one-half of the ventilation area is positioned at the roof assembly’s low point (eave or soffit) and approximately one-half in the upper one-third of the parapet wall. Balancing ventilation in this manner allows for intake to occur at the low points and exhaust to be accomplished at the high points. The movement of the air from low to high points is aided by natural convection. Note: Each Duro-Last parapet wall vent has been fabricated from an aluminum louver designed for outdoor use. The louver includes a water deflector and screen, making it ideal for situations where insects and rain are a problem. The round aluminum louver is fitted in a 6” boot and held in place by a panduit band. Parapet wall vents can be calculated at 5.20 free area in square inches (0.483 m) of air flow. Duro-Last does not mandate parapet wall vents. Wall vents are available for contractors when mandated for use in specs. Installation: Duro-Last parapet wall vents are to be installed on a parapet wall with a minimum height of 21”. The bottom of the louvers must be a minimum 8” off the deck with vent slots facing downward in a horizontal position. Holes are to be cut 6” in diameter through the parapet membrane and substrate with the louver area positioned over the opening. The 18” x 18” base must be heat welded to the parapet wall membrane, no fasteners are needed. The final step is to caulk completely around the panduit band, just behind the lip of the louver. One tube of caulk will cover approximately eight parapet wall vents.
