Dear Reader,

Automobile aficionados will almost always agree that cars are not all the same. On the one hand, some are low-

cost, high mpg transportation devices. On the other end of the spectrum, there are automobiles that are high-cost,

collectible luxurious (or exotic) experiences. There is similarity between automobiles and the dichotomy of electronic

and print media. Let me explain.

The internet is like a highway with zillions of cars traveling back and forth each day (or rather each second). Information

speeds along at a great speed with the singular purpose of getting from point A to point B and specific points thereafter. Just

like a commuter car, data travels the internet efficiently and at little cost. Let’s call the internet “information transportation”.

Magazines are more like classic, luxury and/or exotic automobiles. Each issue tends to be different. They are

unusual (and sometimes expensive) to build and they are not necessarily meant to transport information. Magazines

are meant to provide an experience that one can hold in one’s hands. Magazines have increasingly become identified with luxury rather than

everyday items. Categorizing magazines as a luxury experience puts them in a different group from information transportation. This means a

good bit more longevity due to special handling and a more enjoyable pace. Therefore, we should refer to magazines as an “information

experience” just like classic, luxury and exotic cars.

Obviously, there is a difference between transportation and experience. Witness the comments of a duPont REGISTRY™ reader when he

said that we have a “first class product”. And he has used the duPont REGISTRY™ to purchase several exotics (Range Rover, Aston Martin,

Bentley) that were located in the United States. He is from outside of the USA and turns to the duPont REGISTRY™ as a trusted source with trust-

Part of Corum’s much-loved Admiral’s Cup line, the newestAC-One Misfit is so named because it is inspired by theoversized colored brake calipers found on exotic cars. Oneof just a handful of AC watches to be inspired in design bysomething non-nautical, the AC-One Misfit features askeletonized movement with red rotor and sold with match-ing red rubber strap and also with a black alligator strapwith red stitching. Holding true to the famed black-and-white racing colors of the checkeredflag – with racecar red accents – this Montre Model T12 DRIVEMASTERis a 44mm titanium and steel cased chronograph with stepped, stripedcase sides in black and steel. The watch is powered by the automatic ETAValjoux 7753 caliber that has been modified in house by BRM. Thechronograph offers center seconds hand in white, with the final secondsof a minute ticked off in red dots. The auto-inspired piece is water resistantto 100 meters. $7,750.

Inspired by the skull mascot, “Jake,” on the cars of the Corvette RacingTeam, BRM unveils the V12-44 Corvette watch. “Jake” dates back to2004, when the Corvette Racing Team was in its 4th championship ALMSseason. Winning multiple important championships that year, the teamturned the “Take No Prisoners” motto, and implemented the skull logo.BRM salutes the racing mentality with the new V12-44 Corvette 1 watch.Crafted in stainless steel with black PVD and yellow case, it offers black dial, steel pushers, crown and protector. The screw-down crown isengraved with the skull logo in black and yellow. Complete with sapphirecaseback for viewing the movement, the watch is created in a limited edition of 100 pieces. $8,550.

The main lots were filled up well before our 7 am start time, and theoverflow lot next door reached capacity by 7:10. Families and groupsof friends walked among them all, coffee in hand, as some of theworld’s rarest and most beautiful vehicles sat on display. Inside theshowroom, the cover was lifted on the Aston Martin One-77; outside

of the building, Lamborghinis, Ferraris, Aston Martins and morecaught the glow of the rising sun.

Attendees of this event included the area’s finest dealerships andcar clubs as well as the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Department, witha massive SWAT MRAP vehicle, motorcycle and jeep.

Recently unveiled by Lamborghini, before its debut at the 2015 InternationalMotor Show (IAA), is the brand-new Lamborghini Huracan LP 610-4 Spyder.While we knew it was coming for some time, it’s nice to finally see the fin-ished product.

Set for a full unveiling in Frankfurt at the International Motor Show (IAA),Porsche anticipates that it could create up to 600 hp, a 310 mile cruisingrange and be charged from 0 to 80 percent capacity in less than 15 min-utes.

After years of rumors, leaks and teases, the new Bentley Bentayga SUV wasunveiled Sept. 9. In the revealing press release from the English luxury au-tomobile manufacturer, Bentley announced that the Bentayga is “the fastest,most powerful, most luxurious and most exclusive SUV in the world.” That’squite a pedigree.

Bentley wasted no time in informing the world that the Bentayga is poweredby an all new twin turbocharged 6.0-liter W12 powertrain. When fired up, thisengine is capable of 600 hp and 663 lb-ft of torque, allowing for a 0-60 mphtime of 4.0 seconds and a top speed of 187 mph. Since Sept. 8, England officially has a new luxurious family member: the Rolls-Royce Dawn. Unveiled in a press release by the marque, this new model is“like no other Rolls-Royce to date.” It gets its name from the incredibly rareSilver Dawn, of which only 28 examples were built from 1950 to 1954.

Based on the smaller Ghost and Wraith models, this new 2+2 convertible is,as the press release describes, the “sexiest Rolls-Royce ever built.” While thenew English ultra-luxury model may only have two doors, each one adds tothe strength and stiffness of the body, allowing for an uninterrupted A-pillar.

Eager for the road, we were driving throughtraffic, heat and the desert wasteland to arrive in Los Angeles for the Stam-pede. Running the next day with a La Ferrari, 918, many other exotics andeven another SV that had been freshly bought, we came into Monterey hungryfor the week ahead.

What an experience we had before us; first in class at the Concorso and twohours in traffic to the Quail, but after all, we were in an SV. It was a greatweek in a great car, but it was time to leave.
