Hope lovely surprises are coming your way
To make your birthday a wonderful day!
Welcome to Term 3!
I hope everyone had the chance to have a break
during the school holidays. I would like to
acknowledge Mr Ashley Johnstone and Mr Brett
Sawyer who worked over the weekend to fill the
tyres around the play equipment in the primary
playground. Your efforts are greatly appreciated by
all of the staff and students, thank you!
Well done to the 5 students: Meg Christensen, An-
nie Christensen, Ben Gallagher, Georgie Lane and
Elle Lane, who represented Western Region at the
NSW CHSSA Squash Carnival in Newcastle in the last
week of last Term. The 4 Girls won Gold in the
Teams event with the Boys Team finishing 6th over-
all. In the Individual event, all of the students pro-
gressed to the Quarter Finals, with Elle, Georgie and
Annie—playing in the Semi-Finals and Georgie win-
ning the Open Girls Individual Tournament. Elle,
Georgie and Annie were all selected in the NSW
team to compete in the Trans Tasman Tournament
in Sydney with Queensland and New Zealand in
week 5 of this Term.
I would like to congratulate Mr Rob Lockett for
accepting the position of Year 7 Advisor for 2019.
Mr Lockett will be involved in setting up the transi-
tion program later this Semester.
I hope that many parents and community members
can join us for our Naidoc celebrations tomorrow,
with our Assembly at 12 noon followed by Lunch on
the Lawn.
This is the final Semester for our Year 12 students.
The Trial HSC exams will be held in weeks 4 & 5.
Students should be preparing for these important
assessments. Below are 10 Student tips to see them
through the remaining Term of school.
1. Don’t be afraid to ask questions in class.
Chances are someone else wants to know
the same thing. If you are unsure about a
concept, what is required for an assessment
or an idea being discussed, don’t go home
confused.
2. Use study periods to compile notes, show
teachers your work and ask for feedback.
Take advantage of afternoon study, you will
get more work done.
3. Test yourself with practice HSC papers -
applying your knowledge.
4. Make acronyms with quotes or key con-
cepts as they are easier to remember,
watch videos, use flashcards and write a
term or idea on one side, a definition on the
other side and read the cards before you go
to bed. Make posters of key formulas, con-
cepts and mind maps and put them up in
your room.
5. Practice writing with a pen often. It will
make writing faster and easier.
Continued next page
6. Sleep, especially on the night before an exam.
Have a solid breakfast, get to school early,
listen to music that relaxes you and have a quick
revision, but stop 15 minutes before the exam.
Surround yourself with positivity - you don’t
want to be around someone who is freaking out
beforehand as it will make you nervous.
7. Its not about memorising. Its about understand-
ing the concepts and thinking outside the box.
You need to know your work inside out in order
to write about it effectively in an exam.
8. No matter how academic you are, the HSC is all
about persistence and discipline. Getting a ‘bad’
mark on an assessment will not be
detrimental to your final mark. What is
important is that you learn where you went
wrong, target those areas, keep practising, im-
proving and strengthening your work.
9. Do things that aren't just about study or stress-
ing about study. Hang out with friends at least
once a week. A break from study gives your
mind the chance to relax.
10. Change your study zone - ”same, same” is bor-
ing and you may lose concentration. Study at a
café, local library or in the park - just for a
change.
Have a great week!

Principal

Year 11 Snow Trip Fundraiser Day at Dunedoo Sports Club
Sunday 8th July 2018 On Sunday 8th July 2018 the Dunedoo Central School Year 11 Snow Trip Fundraiser Day was held at the Dunedoo Sports Club. The day commenced at 9.30 am with 57 golfers putting their name down to participate in the 18 hole Ambrose Golf Tour-nament. The 57 golfers were organised into 13 teams and tee off commenced at 10.00am. It was very fitting that the day was about fundraising for a snow trip because the golfers, young and old, seasoned and nov-ice alike, played in the most bitterly cold of conditions. They persevered and played in good spirit recognising the wider significance of the day. Ultimately, Team Potbury were the winners with a net score of 55, but recognising the nature of the day Peter ‘Mouse’ Holmes, Jake Besgrove, Graham Potbury, Kerrin O’Malley and Mark Gallagher graciously donated their prizes to be drawn ‘out the hat’ for three other competing teams. Team Hogden (Dale, Belinda, Hughie, Evie and Sigrid) won four folding chairs, Team Pink (Fiona Van Huisstede, Lisa Christensen, Kim Potbury and Adele Stoddart) won four high pressure sprayers and Team Chapman (Adam Chapman, Charlie McLiesh, John Smith and Brendan Watson) won four fold up back packs. These prizes were very generously donated by Ron and Norma Gallagher. Thank you very much Ron and Norma. Two #100 Clubs were drawn on the day. In the first #100 Club Chantelle Greaves won $60, Margaret Eyles won $30 (she donated it back to Year 11) and Phillip Ellery won $10. In the second #100 Club Meg Christensen won $60, Chelsea Gal-lagher won $30 and Sandy Cox won $10 (he donated it back to Year 11.) The major raffle prize (not drawn till this Friday 27th July at the Sports Club) consists of a wheelbarrow filled with electrical, gardening, kitchen and other goodies was donated by the directors of Dunedoo Sports Club. The Sports Club also generous-ly donated all meat (steaks and sausages) and bread for lunch as well as a meat tray to be raffled. Thank you very much to all of the directors of Dunedoo Sports Club. A fantastically delicious lunch was put on by Year 11 and parents. In addi-tion to the meat and bread supplied by the Sports Club an array of potato bakes, Chinese Noodle Salads, green salads, cakes and slices were provid-ed. A big thank you also needs to be extended to Trish Booth of the SPAR Supermarket who generously donated a basket filled with a wide variety of goods. Thank you very much Trish. Above all else, thank you to the nine Year 11 students in attendance on the day: Byron Brown, Hayden Brydon, Sally Christensen, Nicole Cooke, Bradley Hellegers, Teighla Hickson, Nathan O’Malley, Lochie Stoddart and Bella Watton. Your contributions were fantastic, whether it be cooking the barbeque, preparing food in the kitchen, selling raffle tickets and #100 Clubs or playing golf. A massive thank you also to the Year 11 parents for all of their support, donations and contributions: Kakka, Lisa, Brett, Kerry, Julie, Justin, Adele, Katrina, Sharon and Ailsa. I apologise if I have missed anybody. And finally, thank you to my wife Candice, the 57 golfers who played, anybody who had lunch, anybody who bought a raffle ticket or #100 club ticket. Your generosity will enable this fantastic group of students to participate in an awesome ex-perience at an affordable price. A sincere thanks to you all. Shane Hall, Year 11 Year Adviser

Welcome back to all students and families. We hope you’ve had a wonderful 2 week break. Term 3 is looking like a busy and exciting 10 weeks, with lots of opportunities for kids and fami-lies to share our amazing learning environment. The first opportunity is this Wednesday where we will all spend sometime with Uncle Ralph cele-brating Aboriginal culture for NAIDOC day. PLEASE JOIN US FOR LUNCH ON THE LAWN (SAUSAGE SIZZLE AND PUMPKIN SOUP) FOR A GOLD COIN DONATION. We are extremely pleased to say that the toilet block refurbishment is finalised and students will have access to the new facilities this week. Starting Week 2 there will be a change to our K - 6 timetable. Students will line up at classrooms when the 9am bell rings. This will ensure we all get inside and learning in our warm classrooms, particularly during these colder, winter mornings. Staff were kept very busy yesterday working on Whole School planning. Including consistency, school expectations and using digital technologies. Have a wonderful week and we hope your child shares at least one thing that they enjoyed at school with you each afternoon. Ms Gavin, Assistant Principal Infants
Kindergarten / Year 1: Welcome back everyone! I hope you had a safe and
restful break and the children are ready for another ten big weeks of learning.
This week in class K/1 will be working on sequential numbers in Maths. Kindergarten will look at numbers to 30 whilst Year 1 will be working on numbers to 100. Kinder will be revising the Jolly Phonics sounds and Year 1 will be looking at spelling rules for plurals. K/1 will also be doing Ab-original Art in line with NAIDOC Week. Celebrations for NAIDOC Week will be happening tomor-row so please see the additional information in this newsletter for a list of the activities. You are welcome to attend the assembly in the hall from 12pm and join us for a sausage sizzle after-wards.
There is no homework this week apart from home readers and rocket words. Both Kindergarten and Year 1 will start homework next week.
Have a great week. Mr Ben Kline
Year 2/3: Term 3 is going to be an action packed adventure for all of us. Continued rou-
tines include: Monday - Computers in Annex, Period 5 Thursday - Library, book borrowing and Digital Technology lessons Friday - News day for all students. We are encouraging focussed discussion for News and this weeks topic is “Connecting to our Country” - sharing a time that you enjoyed playing/exploring or spending time on the land. The students know the Big 5 information ideas including who, what, when, where and why. They can bring along something to share to help describe their topic. The Term 2 Maths focus this week is Numbers to 1000. We will be exploring Poetry, exclamation marks, syllables as well as spelling words with (gh) and (ck). Please feel free to contact me if you'd like to follow up any areas from the Semester 1 School Re-port or if you have any concerns or suggestions on how I can support your child's learning. Regards Ms Michelle Gavin
I hope that everyone had an enjoyable school break. Welcome back to Term 3. This week we celebrate NAIDOC, with special activities planned for tomorrow. The theme of NAIDOC for 2018 is ‘Because of Her, We Can’ - celebrating Indigenous women and their contributions to Australian society. Classes will work with Uncle Ralph Naden, followed by a NAIDOC assembly at 12 o’clock in the school hall. This is a community event, and we invite all parents to join us for our assembly and community lunch.
The term is already quite busy, and I encourage all to review the calendar in the weekly newsletter to keep up to date with events. Some events coming very soon include Education Week, PSSA Touch com-petition @ Wellington, and a Whole School Staffing Day.
At the end of last term, a large amount of jumpers and jackets were left at school. Please encourage your child to collect any missing items of clothing before they are sent to the lost property box in the front office.
Have a fantastic start to Term 3!
Georgia Shephard—Assistant Principal
Year 3/4: Hello everyone and welcome back to Term 3! I hope all parents and children had a
great holiday. Students will need to settle back into routines quickly, especially with the increased work-
load that is expected of them throughout Semester Two. Term 3 is traditionally very busy with an in-
creased amount of academic, cultural/community and sporting activities. Our regular homework will re-
sume in Week 2. I will only send home the Week 1 Spelling Words this week. Upcoming events include:
NAIDOC Celebration Activities– please bring gold coin donation (Wednesday Week 1), Year 3-4 Assembly
(Friday Week 2), Education Week Open Day including ‘Lunch on the Lawn’ (Tuesday Week 3) and PSSA
Touch Football in Wellington for Boys and Girls teams (Wednesday Week 3). Have a great first week
back everybody! Cheers, Mr A Honeysett
Year 5/6: Welcome to a very busy Term 3. I’m looking forward to this term as we explore fur-
ther issues on Paradise Island, investigate systems of Government, and refine our literacy skills. I was
really impressed with the rate of homework completion in our class, and hope that this continues
throughout this term. Our homework tasks directly link to class activities, and are not only a good way
for students to revise their work, but also provides an opportunity for parents to see what we are work-
ing on and how their child is progressing. In the last week
of Term 2 we welcomed a new student to our class—
Georgie Gillard has settled in quickly and is a welcome
new member of Stage 3.
Have a great week.
Georgia Shephard—Stage 3 Teacher
