Dunbar in Bloom

Earlier this year a

few brave souls

battled through the

dark night and the

weather to attend

a series of meet-

ings and agreed to

set up a Dunbar in

Bloom group.

We have met regu-

larly since then

and have devel-

oped plans and

raised funds so

that we can make

sure something

happens this

year—a tall order

as the planting

season is already

upon us.

We have therefore

decided to focus

our activities this

year on the High

Street — although

we will stretch this

down to the har-

bour and out to-

wards the railway

station.

Working with the

traders and the

council’s gardening

team we have made plans to take an additional four, big, square plant-ers and 42 big bar-rel planters out of storage and to plant them up and put them out around town.

Plans for the coming year

We got moving

straight after our first

meeting and made an

application to East Lo-

thian Council’s Envi-

ronmental fund and we

were recently awarded

£3,000 to kick start

activities. This might

sound a lot but we

have realised that we

need to raise a lot

more than this if we

are going to make a

blooming difference!

It takes 50 plants to

plant up one of the

large planters on the

High Street. And we

have over 40 coming

out of storage.

So we are still fund-

raising—we have

asked East Lothian

Council’s Community

Planning to help with

the cost of keeping in

touch with the commu-

nity.

We have also asked

Dunbar Community

Council if they can

contribute £1,000 to-

wards costs. We will let

you know how we get

on.

We will also be con-

tacting local busi-

nesses and other fun-

ders, please let us

know if you have any

ideas or can help.
