New Programs at Dunbar Community Centre

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

With every season...I hope that you enjoyed your summer days in the City and any vacation that you were able to take. While vacations are important, the shift from summer holidays to the return to fall routines provides staycation opportunities. This fall, the Dunbar Community Centre offers a full range of programming to extend those summer efforts at relaxation, fitness, social and artistic pursuits and overall wellbeing. In addition to those old favourites that you have enjoyed, we are offering new programs such as Spanish Flamenco Dancing and Beginners’ Adult Chamber Orchestra.

We are still engaged in assessing the impact of the new Joint Operating Agreement proposed by Park Board to the Community Centre Associations. Some Community Centre Associations have already conducted information sessions and I am advised that some have signed the new agreement. More information will be provided to you as we conclude that review and assessment. We will need to have a public meeting on this topic in September so watch our webpage and newsletter for further information.

In the meantime, the Park Board is engaged in a public consultation with the community about future planning for parks and recreation in the City of Vancouver. You may have already participated in this process. The project and its processes are described on the website of the Vancouver Parks Board at vancouver.ca/vanplay. The goal is to develop a long term plan for the City’s parks and recreation system. It is important that you to express your ideas and opinions for the future of our parks and recreation system.

We look forward to seeing you at the Centre and around the neighbourhood.

Gerry Massingpresident, dunbar community centre association

In addition to our popular existing programs, please look out for the “ new ” symbol beside all of the new programs being offered this summer at Dunbar Community Centre.

Candlelight Yin Yoga new

This evening class brings a mellow and contemplative end to your day with candles and soft music. Yin Yoga is a powerful but passive practice designed to bring more flexibility and deeper relaxation to the body. Yin targets the connective tissues of the body—ligaments, tendons and fascia—to open and lengthen, using a series of poses which are held for a length of time. Yin Yoga is a great de-stressor and practitioners often notice a sense of peace and restfulness. This is a fantastic complementary practice for a more active style of Yoga or indeed any intense physical exercise. The use of props ensures accessibility for almost anyone and modifications are given depending on individual needs. W Sep 13-Dec13 7:30pm-8:45pm127434 $146.67/14 sessInstructor: Annabel Kershaw
