Prep+ is now in its 5th year and continuing to deliver quality cultural adventures for the school

community.

Prep+ is open to boys in Years 5, 6, 7 and 8, plus their parents and Prep staff. For all outside

school events boys are accompanied by staff, transport is arranged and they are brought back to

school for pick up at the times indicated. Boys in the younger years are welcome to come if

accompanied by a parent or responsible adult.

I am delighted that Prep+ has become part of the fabric of the school, thanks to your support

and involvement as well as that of Mr Glenn Smart who, as you know, retires at the end of this

term.

MOTOWN THE MUSICAL AT THE

SHAFTESBURY THEATRE

Wednesday 3rd May

Superb performances and a gilded back-

catalogue make this musical an urgent

rallying cry for us all to rediscover our

Motown mojo! The record label boasts a

mountain of well-loved tunes, making it

almost impossible to imagine a world

without the sounds of Diana Ross and the

Supremes, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye,

Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson et al.

This lavish, slick, song-crammed show, first

seen on Broadway in 2013 puts such a

spring in its audience’s step, you may well

see people dancing in the street along

Shaftesbury Avenue.

DAVID HOCKNEY AT THE TATE

BRITAIN

Followed by supper at Goya, a local

tapas bar.

Friday 28th April

As he approaches his 80th birthday, Hockney

continues to change his style and ways of

working, embracing new technologies as he

goes. From his portraits and images of Los

Angeles swimming pools, through to his

drawings and photography, Yorkshire

landscapes and most recent paintings – some

of which have never been seen before in

public – this exhibition shows how the roots

of each new direction lay in the work that

came before. A once-in-a-lifetime chance to

see these unforgettable works together.

LES MISERABLES AT THE

QUEEN’S THEATRE

Thursday 18th May

After a record breaking 25 years in

the West End the current London

production of Alain Boublil and

Claude Michel Schonberg’s Les

Miserables is still as fresh as ever.

Set against the backdrop of the French

peasant uprisings of the 1830’s (and

not the Revolution as many mistakenly

presume), this operatic production

successfully adapts Victor Hugo’s

sprawling novel into an epic and

moving piece that rivals anything else

the West End has to offer.

Leave school 5.30pm Return 11.00pm

Cost: £25 including transport

ROMEO AND JULIET AT

SHAKESPEARE’S GLOBE

Thursday 8th June

In Verona, violence rules. Two families

bear an ancient grudge, and rage flares

between them. In a world where greed,

wealth and bitter feuds prevail, two

disenchanted children dare to choose

love. Two households. Two children.

One love. One fate. Daniel Kramer,

Artistic Director of English National

Opera, brings Shakespeare’s timeless

ritual of love and death to the Globe

stage in a vibrant, volatile production.

His wild and energetic take on Romeo

and Juliet explodes in a modern twist on

Shakespeare’s classic story.

Leave school 5.30pm Return 10.45pm

MUSICAL EVENTS THIS SUMMER TERM

Our pianists come to the fore during the summer term with our annual Abrahams Piano Competition

and Elementary Festival. Approaching 200 boys from three sections of the School will participate at

various levels with the Finals being held on Tuesday 16th May.

Prep musicians will represent the School at local music festivals and also at the annual Sparrow Golf

Day. A performance at a day centre for local elderly residents is also planned.

The usual pupils’ concerts and assemblies will afford many individuals and ensembles the opportunity to

perform.

The annual ‘Tribe Shout’ (our inter tribe singing competition) takes place following Prize Giving on 24th

June where there will also be many other musical performances. Year 8 musicians will also participate

as part of the Leavers’ Sunday celebrations on 2nd July.

The Pre-Prep Strings, Lower School and Middle School will each have their own summer concert, the

latter bringing our term to a close. Our senior instrumental groups will mark the end of the school

year with our Summer Serenade - which will be mysteriously billed as a ‘concert of four halves’. This is

to be held on Friday 30th June.

Dates for all the term’s musical events will be found in the School Calendar and further details will be

forthcoming from the Music Department.

HOW TO BOOK

Tickets can be reserved through the Parent Messaging Centre, choosing Prep+ Events under the Clubs

tab and are charged to the end of term school bill. Cancellations will only be refunded if notice is

received earlier than 48 hours before the event and the tickets can be resold.

For any questions about the trips, please contact either Mr Smart ([email protected])

or Mrs Quanrud ([email protected]).
