Y9 Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award Attendance Agreement 2020/2021

The aim of Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) sessions at Tudor Grange Academy is to support students in gaining the skills

necessary to take part in a self-sufficient expedition in a safe and competent manner; to promote independence and

explore the world outside school.

Student Agreement:

To ensure a successful and enjoyable programme we would ask you to adhere to the following:

- I will attend all DofE meetings as agreed with my DofE Leader.

- If I am issued with a private detention I will arrange it for an evening when I do not have DofE.

- If I am absent from school I will provide my DofE leader with a note signed by my parent/guardian and liaise

with a different DofE leader to attend their session on the topic I missed.

- I will be willing to learn and take part in the set activities.

- I understand that I need to complete and submit evidence for at least one of my Volunteering, Physical and

Skills activities before I can participate in the Expedition section of the award.

- I understand that if I haven’t completed all the training requirements of the DofE programme, it will be unlikely

that I will be deemed competent and therefore will not be able to attend the practice or qualifying expeditions.

- In addition to this agreement, I will complete and submit the DofE Bronze Award Bitesize planner and return

to Mrs Rayson in OG11 by Friday 4th September 2020.

Parent/Guardian Agreement:

I agree that my son/daughter can participate in the DofE programme and must adhere to the conditions of the Student

Agreement above. I understand that if my child does not attend all DofE meetings, complete at least one section of

their award and meet the training requirements of the DofE programme then he/she will be unable to participate in the

Expedition section of the award.

If my son/daughter receives a letter of acceptance, I understand that a payment of £25 for E-DofE registration must be

I understand that an additional payment of approximately £200 must be made by ParentPay to cover the expedition

July 2020 Dear Parent/Guardian

Bronze Duke of Edinburgh : Year 9 Students I would like to invite you and your son/daughter to view our Bronze Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) information presentation video, made available to you via your child’s Show My Homework account. The purpose of the presentation is to inform you of the benefits of taking part in the DofE programme. The DofE programme consists of four sections: volunteering, skill, physical and expedition. It would be an expectation that your son/daughter works to complete all sections except the expedition section independently. Students should be aware that the DofE Bronze programme will take around 6 months to complete. We expect at least one of the volunteering, physical and skills sections of the award to be completed by 28th February 2021 if students are to commence the expedition section, with a second completed by 30th April 2021 in order to take part in the qualifying expedition and the final section being completed before the end of the academic year. The DofE team at Tudor Grange, in partnership with Rich Adventure*, will support your child in developing the skills required to complete the expedition section. Please be aware that during the expeditions students will be remotely supervised during the day. This means that students will only meet staff at agreed checkpoints throughout the day. Students must agree to attend all meetings arranged by their DofE leader and understand that if they miss meetings their place on the scheme may be lost. This is to ensure that students have the necessary skills to take part in the expedition section of the programme. Students must be available for the training day in Spring 2021, the practice expedition/route planning event in Spring 2021 and the qualifying expedition in late Summer 2021. Due to the 2020 pandemic, dates for these events are yet to be confirmed. Expeditions and training events will be held during weekends, but some meetings and route planning events will be held either during the school day or after school. The cost of the programme will be £25 for initial registration and estimated expedition programme fees of approximately £200 per participant. This covers: staffing, accommodation, navigation activities and camping site fees. Please note, participants will be required to make their own transport arrangements to and from the start and end points of the expeditions/training events. For successful applicants, payment of the registration fee should be paid through the Duke of Edinburgh option on ParentPay by 21st September 2020. Should your child successfully complete one section of the award, payment of the expedition programme will be requested in instalments. Depending on their progress, we would expect all payments to be concluded through ParentPay by 31st May 2021. You should be aware that the format of the expedition programme may be subject to change due to the pandemic and that costs and full details of the expeditions will be confirmed as soon as possible.

The submission deadline for all 4 of these documents will be 4th September 2020, with applications to be posted or emailed to the address indicated below. Letters of acceptance to successful students will be given out on Monday, 14th September 2020 and the ParentPay Bronze DofE 2021 payment option will then be made available to these students. The £25 registration will need to be paid by 21st September 2020. Advice on completing application: - Please do not rush to hand in your application forms, take time to complete them as

fully as possible. - Think carefully about the activities you could do for each section. - Why not try something new and challenging? - Could you extend or continue an activity you have done before? - Use the opportunity to meet new people. - Check the Duke of Edinburgh website for ideas (www.dofe.org). - What do you want to get out of the award? - Who might assess each activity? (Note: This must NOT be a family member or other

DofE participant) - Are you prepared to work independently to complete the evidence needed for each

section? (Successful applicants will be given an online account after payment of registration fee)

- Do you have time? (Each of the three sections Volunteering, Physical and Skills will require an hour each outside of your normal school timetable for a minimum of 12 weeks – see website for further information)

- Please do not apply if you really only want to do the expedition.
