Crete boasts a wine tradition that is 4000 years old! It is like a wine ark car-rying marvellous indigenous varieties as well as foreign ones. Local white va-rieties include: Vilana, Vidiano, Dafni, Thrapsathiri, Malvazia di Can-dia, Muscat of Spina, Plyto. Red varieties include: Kotsifali, Mantilari, Liati-ko, Tsardana, Romeiko. Some figures: 4,500 hectares of vineyards; 46,500 tons of grapes per year; 300,000 hectolitres of wine produced every year. Today, Crete hosts one of the largest vineyards in Greece, in terms of both si-ze and production covering 12.8% of Greece’s wine regions. Piemonte is a region in NorthWest of Italy with a long and important voca-tion for winemaking. Production is oriented towards denominations that guarantee origin and quality, i.e. Barolo, Barbaresco, Barbera, Asti Spuman-te, Arneis. Some figures: 19,000 winegrowing estates; 43,500 hectares of vi-neyards; 2.5 million hectolitres of wine produced every year. Since 2015 Pie-monte is well represented at ProWein Düsseldorf. Today Piemonte is the first Italian region for nr. of exhibitors with more than 230 exhibitors.
