• Fever (temperature 100.4°F or higher) no fever-reducing medications on board
• New cough, or a cough gets worse
• Difficulty or trouble breathing

from the first list above are present:
• Sore Throat

When to Return to School after COVID-19
Saint Joseph School will follow the CDC’s guidelines for returning to school following COVID-19:
*Scenario #1: If a student has or likely has COVID-19 and is showing symptoms, they should not return to
school until:
• 24 hours with no fever and
• Respiratory symptoms have improved (e.g. cough, shortness of breath) and
• 10 days have passed since symptoms first appeared
*Scenario #2: If a student tested positive for COVID-19 but is NOT showing symptoms, they may not
return to school until:
• 10 days have passed since positive test
*Scenario #3: If a student starts showing symptoms after receiving a positive test result, they should then
follow the guidelines for Scenario #1
*Scenario #4: If a student has been in close contact with someone with COVID-19 (within 6 feet of him/
her for at least 15 minutes, had direct physical contact, shared eating or drinking utensils with, or came
into contact with respiratory droplets) the student should stay home for 14 days after exposure and will
be directed to contact their child’s primary healthcare provider.
COVID-19 Attendance Guide for Parents and Families is a resource from the Minnesota Department of Health. Use this guide to understand when your child can attend school
during this pandemic.
Appalachia Christmas Mission Project
SHOEBOX INSTRUCTIONS For School
St. Joseph Church is participating in the Shoe Box Mission Project, benefiting Fr. Hoppenjans parish and neighboring Kentucky Catholic Parishes. We hope the school children will also participate in this project and earn service hours. How does the program work? 1. Use an empty shoebox, sturdy cardboard, or plastic, photo boxes from craft store also work. If you wish to cover box wrap top and bottom separately so cover can be removed without tearing the paper. 2. Determine if the box will go to a boy or girl and what age would be appropriate for the gift. Ages 1 to 18 years. Pick up the tag to place on top of the box.
3. All items in the box must be NEW. Please no religious items, cash or gift cards, guns or violent toys. 4. Start with a WOW Item. A wow item is one thing that when the person opens the box they look at
that item and say WOW. Example: a soccer ball deflated with a pump and needle enclosed, large stuffed animal, lego set, action figure, Barbie doll, team sport item( cap, shirt) ,bath and body works items for girls, axe items for boys, craft item , watch or jewelry etc.
5. After WOW item is in the box fill in with smaller items if there is room. Socks (always a great need), fingernail polish, small cars, hair items, art items, clothing items, toothbrush and toothpaste, small wrapped candy item, school supplies, magic tricks, tiny animals etc.
6. Fill out tag check for boy or girl and approximate age and attach to top of box and tie box securely or rubber band together. When filling out tag, try to be specific on size of clothing, and complete contents in box
7. Return to St. Joseph School (Mrs. Mansour’s classroom) by Oct. 27th. Thank you for
participating in this project. Please contact Lou Croke at [email protected] with any questions!
Prayer to Say Over Shoe Box
Dear Lord, we thank you for the opportunity to serve you and bless someone with this Christmas Gift, We pray that you would not only help the box to arrive safely, but that it would bless the person who receives it in a very special
way. More than anything may they come to know you and the great love that you have for them! Amen
GIFT FOR: AGE: CONTENTS :(be specific include sizes and colors) PLEASE ATTACH TO TOP OF BOX

Each school day, with few exceptions, we need volunteers to help monitor recess on the playground. In this role, volunteers (family members of students K - 8) assist school staff with supervision and help to maintain a safe environment for the
school children to play. Students love it when family members come in and show interest in their school day! Please see the Sign-Up Genius site to volunteer!

ISD #196 Transportation will not be issuing any bus passes for the 2020-2021 school year.
This will allow them to keep the numbers in check when
transporting the regular riders on the bus. Families will have to
make transportation arrangements if their student will
be going home with another student for after school activities.
Please keep in mind that costumes must not be violent in nature and they should
not include fake or toy weapons. Costumes that depict devils, demons, or
which may be offensive to groups of people of cultures are not welcome. Parents should use discretion when
choosing costumes.
Need to contact a staff member? Check
out the staff directory on the website!
Parent—Teacher conferences on
November 2, 3 and 4 will be done
virtually! St. Joseph School will be using Calendly to schedule
conferences. Information will be emailed to families
on Monday, October 26.
Fall Fun Day is coming up! This event is on Friday, October 30 is put on by our 8th graders for students in the younger grades. They are looking for donations of wrapped candy for this event. Please send in your
donations to the Main Office (via kid mail) by Thursday, October 22. Thank you in
advance for your generosity!
St. Joseph School has a private Shutterfly site that we upload pictures to. Please look here for pictures taken at school events. This is a member only site for families of St. Joseph
School only, you will have to request access. Photos posted here are for
personal use and memories only.
WINTER IS HERE!!! Now that the weather is turning colder, here are a few things
to keep in mind: • St. Joseph School does not have extra coats, snow pants, mittens, or boots to lend out. Please send your student with the proper cold weather gear EVERY DAY! Recess will be
held outside each day, with some allowances made for extreme cold.
• Please note that if Independent School District 196 (Rosemount—Apple Valley— Eagan) is closed or has a
delayed start, St. Joseph School is closed or has a delayed start! There will not be supervision at the school during these snow emergencies, so please plan adequately! The
school will email and text all families with delayed start or closing information.
• St. Joseph School will notify families if there is a cancellation on Wednesdays (due to no school in ISD #196). Families will be notified via email and text.
Thursday, November 5 and Friday, November 6 are offered as ESC days. We must have at least five students signed up in order to offer care, so don’t wait!
Students will be offered a variety of craft opportunities as well as engaging activities centered around the school theme. Non-school day childcare is offered from 8:00a-5:00pm at the cost of $30 per day, students must bring a cold lunch.
Please reach out to Shannon Carroll to reserve a spot by October 30.
Sunday Readings and Backgrounds
Thirtieth eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time Reading I : Exodus 22:20-26 Take care to be just, especially to widows and the poor.
• Exodus 20-23 consists primarily of laws.
• Today's passage reminds the Israelites to care for the poor and vulnerable in their midst.
• Any mistreatment of the vulnerable people in the society would be interpreted as a direct affront to God.
Reading II : 1 Thessalonians 1:5c-10 Your faith is an example for others.
• Paul's thanksgiving for the faith of the Thessalonians continues in today's passage.
• The Thessalonians have endured with joy the suffering brought by faithfulness to God's Law.
• As a result, they have become, in their turn, models of faith for the rest of the Near East. Gospel : Matthew 22:34-40 The great commandment.
• The discussion of the Law in today's Gospel is one of the four conflict stories in this section of Matthew.
• A scribe attempts to trap Jesus with the question: "What is the greatest commandment of the Law"?
• Jesus answers by quoting two passages from the Hebrew Scriptures: the command to love God from Deuteronomy 6:5, and the command to love their neighbor from Leviticus 19:18
Activities of the Week Choose one of the following activities as a way to further reflect on the Sunday readings:
• God asks us to love our neighbor. As a family, investigate the treatment of refugees or other immigrants in your community. What difficulties do they experience? Talk about what you as a family can do to help.
• Collect and write down family stories about your ancestors who first came to this country. What do their experiences teach us about the way we should treat others?
• We show our love for God by imitating God’s compassion in caring for those who are poor. Use this time to evaluate your family’s concern for those who are poor in your community. Remind your family that you also need to be aware of the sufferings of those who are poor throughout the world. Gather together as a family, and vote on a family project to help alleviate suffering in your community or in the world.
• Together with your family, draw a large heart on a blank sheet of white paper. Cut out the heart and write the passage from Matthew’s Gospel 22:37-39 inside. Hang the heart in a special place to remind your family of Jesus’ Great Commandment each day.
