Dear Families,

We hope you are continuing to stay safe and well under these challenging circumstances. It has been lovely to hear from some of you, and for you to share your learning with us. Home learning grid for school closure Primary 2 week beginning 30th March 2020

Writing Reading NumberWrite a report about something you’ve done in the last week.

Plan your report.- Tell someone about what you are going to write.- Write down: what happened first? Then? Next?

Last?

Write your story in your jotter.- Use a sentence opener to start each of your

sentences: First… Then… Next… Finally…- Remember to use capital letters and full stops for

every sentence.

Get creative:- Turn it into a newspaper. What would you call your

paper? What would the headline be?

Continue to enjoy reading lots of different books by yourself. Remember to keep practising reading aloud from books to an adult.

- Pick a favourite book from the ones you have looked at. Can you design a new front cover?

- Based on a non-fiction book, can you create a poster about something you are interested in?

- Create a book review – there’s a template under the P2 tab.

Practise ordering and sequencing numbers to 100… You could use this game:topmarks.co.uk/ordering-and-sequencing/caterpillar-ordering

Practise writing your numbers:- Focus on getting them the right way round! - Could you create a beautiful number line to

decorate your home learning environment?- For more of a challenge: your number line could go

up in 2s, 5s, 10s or 3s… How high can you go?

Practise counting things around the house:- How many windows are there?- How many lightbulbs?- How many books?- How many DVDs?Can you find a way of recording what you find out?

Remember to use your Sumdog log in to access lots of fun games with number questions!

Spelling Talking & Listening Maths/NumeracyPractise spelling words using magic e with a ‘soft c’.

e.g. race, grace, mice, spice, bounce, fleece

Can you create funnysentences or silly stories using as many ‘soft c’ words as possible?

Practice online using Sumdog or Top Marks Spelling.

Talking:

Listening:Audible, Epic, Storynory and Youtube have loads of audio books available for free. Audible: stories.audible.com/discoveryEpic: getepic.com (use code azu6968 for access)Storynory: storynory.com

Can you summarise a story you have listened to?

Continue exploring measure this week: volume and capacity. You could collect different glass jars, and fill them with water to different levels, then listen to the sound they make when they are tapped with sticks, spoons or other items.

Does the capacity of the jar affect the sound? Will adding food colouring affect the pitch? What happens if other items are added to the jar? Can you order the jars according to the different

quantities of water, and hear the changing pitch?
