Age: 16

At what age did you start getting involved in ladies football?

I was 8 years old playing at under 10 level.

How did you first get involved?

I had an interest in the sport and a new club was forming in the

area.

What made you want to get into refereeing?

To learn a greater understanding of the game (knowing the rules

better) and helping out local clubs.

broke up about 10 years previous. Wanderers are not yet field-ing any full juvenile teams but have more girls than boys playing in their mixed teams (Under 12 and lower) It is hoped to field an under 15 or under 16 girls team next season and head back towards the Senior Ranks

Wanderers have recently started up a Nursery Pro-gramme. It is for 4-6 year olds in the Ballyboden/Rockbrook area. The nursery takes place on Saturday Mornings and so far the club are getting a great reaction. This is only the third year of the ladies section since it

where they were before their break. Keep watching out for Wan-derers in the future. They’re on the up!!

Match Fundraiser

Craobh Chiarain and Na Dubh Gall ladies football participated in their annual marathon match fund raiser on Sunday 1st June 08. Every age group in juvenile level girls and boys play throughout the day. This is the second year running and was once again a great suc-cess. Na Dubh Gall won the first ladies U11 match then Craobh Chiarain not to be out done won the second U13/U14 game to even the toss. This was a very enjoy-able day with both sides tasting victory and defeat in great sportsmanship, long may it continue.

On Saturday 7th June a

mix of under 11’s and under 12’s from Na Fi-anna are going to play in St Martin’s Monasterboice in County Louth. They will play a few mini games and also have a skills competition, adding up the scores at the end. A trophy will then be pre-sented to the winning team. This is an excellent link between the two clubs and should be fun with St Martin’s represent-ing Louth and Na Fianna for Dublin it will act as a

warm up for the Louth v Dublin match the follow-ing day …a fun day ahead!

Na Fianna visit ‘The Wee County’

Did you enjoy the ‘Grab Your Whistle’ Programme?

Yes I did, it was a very good programme that covered all areas

very well and gave great advice to deal with any problems that

possibly may arise. Also its has helped me with my understand-

ing of football.

What are your biggest fears beginning refereeing?

Bad comments from supporters or managers for a decision you

have made.

Have you any advice for other females looking to take up

refereeing?

You have to be prepared to learn the rules to fulfil your duty and

feel confident when you start refereeing.

St James Gaels

CUMANN PEIL GAEIL NA MBAN GAEIL NAOMH SHÉAMAIS have launched a new girls team. St. James’ Gaels Ladies’ U12s, the first juvenile girls team that has ever played for the club (following the launch of the Ladies’ Adult Team two years ago), debuted in the league on Sunday 6th April 2008, play-ing an away match versus Lu-can Sarsfields. Lucan came away with a good win, despite some great moves from the Gaels. Given some time and experience, they’ll be up there with the best!

Féile Laighean

Dublin Ladies Gaelic Asso-ciation would like to thank Kildare Leinster Féile com-mittee for a wonderful tour-nament and look forward to Dublin clubs participation in 2009. The standard of foot-ball on display was very high by all teams participat-ing. Ballyboden St Endas were narrowly beaten in their Semi Final by Geraldines of Arklow after extra time. Geraldine’s then went on to win the Division 1 final. The newly assembled St Sylvesters U14 panel for 2008, acquitted themselves very well, with two very close games in their Divi-sion. This team received a late invitation to the tourna-ment. They were nominated by the Dublin Ladies Board as they are top of U14 Divi-sion 3 league. Both Ballyboden & St Syl-vester’s gained much experi-ence from the tournament and hope to benefit from the experience gained. The Na-tional Féile this year takes place in Cavan. in July.

In last year’s nail biting final the Underdogs managed to defeat the formidable New York All-Stars. Adding to the success of the campaign, several members of last year’s Underdogs team now represent their counties at senior level having been

previously overlooked. This year it’s Ladies Football again and this time the team face a fresh challenge a little closer to home. Na-tional pride will be at stake in December when the Un-derdogs square off against the London All-Stars – A team made up of the best players in Britain. TG4 and Adare Productions

are now inviting applicants for The Underdogs. Any female player over 18, who has never been on a panel for or played at senior county level, and has never been nominated for an All-Star Award, qualifies as an Underdog and can apply. Trials will commence in late June.

This is a chance to train with legends of the game and show your county selec-tors what they are missing. To apply visit TG4’s website, www.tg4.ie, and click on the Underdogs link.

The first ever Basketball, La-dies Gaelic Football and Rugby Summer camp for teenage girls was launched on Tuesday 20th May in the Na-tional Basketball Arena, Ty-mon Park Tallaght. The camp will take place over one week from June 9th – June 13th inclusive and will be held in the National Basketball Arena and the adjacent rugby/ GAA

pitches. The girls will learn the basics of all three sports and the hope is that they will continue playing one or all in the future. There will be links to the local rugby, Gaelic and basketball teams to ensure that there is a follow on for the participants. Being involved in sport develops confidence and leadership skills within this target group. It is hoped that these girls will become role models within their com-munity.

New resources are now available for clubs to get at the Coaching and Games office in Parnell Park. The first of these is the ‘Ready to Play Guide’ for coaching and planning nursery programmes. Nurseries are becoming increasingly important in clubs and this booklet will help you set up and run this section of your club. The second resource now available is the ‘Have a Ball’ home learning activity book. This activity book is aimed at children between the ages of 4 and 7 years old who partici-pate in GAA or a nursery programme. It is simple to understand and children can follow their progress throughout. It is a real fun book for kids. For further information on any of these resources you can contact Aileen in Parnell Park on 01 8312099 or [email protected]
