Some resultsSome results80% of the Stations hot water is produced daily by the thermodynamic panels

The new boilers are 98% efficient

Removing the Space Heaters has made savings of one Tonne of CO2

and over €1,200 per annum

Electricity consumption has been reduced by 80% per annum

The Station is permanently at one temperature, reducing boiler work load and creating a better healthier working environment for the staff.

Page 18: Dublin City Council Dublin City Council City Architects CPD City Architects CPD Green Plan Green Plan Presentation byF/F Neil McCabe Presentation byF/F

Some resultsSome results

Electrical Appliances have a reduced output of over 50%

By retro fitting new technologies, the water consumption of the Station has been reduced by 1,500,000 litres per annum.

The cost of water to and from the station has dropped by 90%

Seven Public Private Partnerships have been set up to create the recycle bay.

The stations retro fit has prevented 10 Tonne of CO2 from leaking out through the fabric and is directly impacting on the running costs of the station.

Some resultsSome results

100% of the glass, paper, plastic, and tin produced on site are recycled

40% of all station waste is now recycled.

We are now composting 100% of all organic waste created in the station.

There is a comprehensive Biodiversity Action Plan written for Kilbarrack Fire Station

There are two working Beehives in Kilbarrack Fire Station

Some resultsSome results

U Values Retro-fit

Before Phase (I) work, most of the Fire Station had a U value higher then ten. This equates to 1,834.7 KwHr of energy wasted through the building fabric poor insulation. The Station consumed 210 litres of oil per day.

After Phase (II) work, almost all the Fire Station has a U value of under .9, this equates to a 350.45 KwHr of energy still wasted through the building fabric.

Page 21: Dublin City Council Dublin City Council City Architects CPD City Architects CPD Green Plan Green Plan Presentation byF/F Neil McCabe Presentation byF/F

Some resultsSome results

U Values Retro-fit

The 1,484.25 KwHr saved represents a total energy saving of 170 litres of oil per day and an energy saving of 70.2%

Phase (III) work is currently under way to reduce heat loss by a further 26.3%

The Station Office roof insulation project will bring the U value from 878 KwHr to 30.75 KwHr a total saving of 96.5%. This figure will effect the entire Station U Value figures.

Behavioural ChangeBehavioural Change

• The implementation of the Green Plan would not have been possible without the dedication and commitment of both the current and retired staff in Kilbarrack Fire Station.

• Behavioural change has no upfront cost and the station’s staff are part of the solution. Behavioural change is free and is the fundamental unit driving the success of the Green Plan.

• Fire fighters and officers alike bought into the idea of a shared responsibility for their Fire Station. This is reflected in each theme mentioned above.

• In Kilbarrack Fire Station, staff have adopted a can do attitude with regard to this project. The staff are stakeholders and an intrinsic part of the Green Plan.
