PRC - Premier’s Reading Challenge Congratulations to Jorden West, Larissa West and Juliet Quinn who have finished their challenge for this year. Thank you to families who have logged books. It is important that students read or listen to the books added to their reading log. Reading records need to be validated by school staff. We usually talk to students about books they have read just as a check. It is great to see so many students close to finishing their reading logs. The PRC is a personal challenge and designed to encourage students to read often and widely. Thank you to parents, carers and teachers for their support and encouragement.

Class Activities A couple of weeks ago there was a group of growly Gruffalo faces outside the library door. They came in for a visit to talk about the story and their masks. Thank you Kinder Blue for visiting.

Overdue Books

Over the next few weeks we will be sending home overdue notices. If your child receives a notice, and you have a query about the book or notice, please come and see us. We do not charge for overdue books we are just happy to get them back in great condition. Please have a look at home for any books from school and send them back. Thank you. This is a new book that is currently being processed. Every parent will want one of these. By Mitch Frost, illustrated by Daron Parton Do you lie awake at night worrying about monsters? Donut monsters? Blue monsters? DANCING ROBOT MONSTERS!? Then this is the book for you! Follow these ten easy steps and you’ll never be bothered by monsters again. Not even carrot monsters. Perfect for anyone, big or small, who’s ever been afraid of what might be lurking under the bed Sue Buttrey, Teacher Librarian

1/2W Hatching Baby Chicks Over the last few weeks, students in 1/2W have studied the life cycle of chickens. They have watched eggs in the incubator for 21 days and saw 17 baby Australorp chickens hatch. Students have been responsible for handling and feeding the chicks. It was an exciting adventure. The chicks are growing quickly and have been moved to their new home at Mrs Milne’s house. Look out for some pictures in the Dubbo Photo News in the coming weeks.

Growth Mindset Word of the Week Kindergarten’s word of the week is ‘support’. It is important for students to experience learning success that we support them throughout their learning journey. Student’s learning efforts need to be encouraged and they need to feel that their ideas and questions are valued. We are working togeth-er as a team to support all Kindergarten students and to build and promote a growth mindset.

Netball Knockout On June 12th 2019, Dubbo South played Dubbo Public in Round 3 of the knockout competition. The first quarter was tightly contested with Dubbo Public leading 4-3. Some sharp shooting from Dubbo Public in the 2nd quarter saw them pull further ahead. Dubbo South won the last quarter 6 goals to 4 due to some excellent defence and strong attack. The girls displayed great sportsmanship and teamwork but were unfortunately defeated 25-11. A big thank you to Kylie who umpired for us and the family members who came and supported.

Scar Trees At Dundullimal, Aboriginal people cut a piece of wood out of a tree and used it for a canoe or a coolamon to hold things in. That’s how scar trees were made. If scar trees are where you are, that means that Aboriginal people were there. by Huntah Bowen 1M

Dundullimal Homestead At Dundullimal there was 2 special chairs. Under the armrests there was 1 plank on each side to put your legs on. There was a fireplace in every room to keep them all warm. The babies had a cradle for a bed. The babies had to sleep in the same room as their parents. They had to have a fly net because they did not have fly spray. Their house did not have very much stuff in it. They used a pot at night as a toilet. by Georgia Druitt 1M

School

In the olden days school you needed to write with your right hand or you would get a smack with a cane. There was no whiteboards, there was only chalkboards used with chalk. by Charlie Hawkins 1M
