Where will you go in yours?

With the arrival of Spring and Summer we all feel the need to get away from it all for a while... to walk along the shore under big skies; to feel a fresh breeze on our faces; to blow away the cobwebs of the darker months.

So, we took ourselves off and spent a few days at a brilliant beach hut and a charming coastal cottage before heading inshore for some time in the country.

And each place we stayed proved to be the perfect location to showcase the Dubarry Spring Summer Collection. The bright, clean colours, in a fresh, contemporary palette looked fabulous and provided a perfect harmony of style, comfort and performance.

We have introduced some classic casual tops for women, along with some bold new colourways for your favourite Carra quilted jacket and Cullin quilted gilet.

For men, we are really excited to introduce Atlantic, which is quite simply the most comfortable deck shoe we have ever created. There’s also a great new down-filled gilet called Arklow that’s going to be a must-have whether on land or on the water.

We’ve also got some beautiful new women’s bags in our signature luxury leathers, as well as a superb quality range of leather boots, high performance sailing boots and deck shoes, jackets and knits, essential accessories and, of course, our wonderful tweed collection.

We are also very proud to celebrate our 75th Anniversary in 2012, and we will be marking the occasion in some very special ways throughout the year - find out more on page 4.

In 1937 a co-operative company was formed to provide employment in a small town called Ballinasloe, in the heart of Galway on Ireland’s glorious West Coast. Named Dubarry, after a famous French courtesan, we began by making fine leather shoes. The company was fortunate to be able to draw on a local population of hard working craftsmen and women, and we soon developed a reputation for excellent workmanship and quality.

But we don’t rest on our laurels, and we look to the wild West Coast and Galway’s great sailing heritage to motivate us to create superb deck shoes. Then by using the finest performance materials available, we designed and made Shamrock, our first dedicated sailing boot.

We then journeyed from the sea to the country, and created our most famous boot of all - Galway. The rest is history.

Our range grew to include clothing and accessories, and over the year’s Dubarry has expanded its international sourcing network, working closely with carefully selected partners who share our high standards and desire to work with the best of components, raw materials and unique designs. We have achieved great success and plaudits, but have never lost sight of our roots, of which we are immensely proud.

Dubarry footwear and clothing is now admired, desired and enjoyed around the world, but it is to our magnificent homeland and its people and landscapes that we continue to look to for inspiration.

And we always will.

The founders of the co-operative wanted to be different from other Irish brands and also felt the company needed a continental European flavour for their enterprise, so after some research decided upon the name Dubarry, after Madame du Barry.

Jeanne Bécu was born in Lorraine, France, the illegitimate daughter of Anne Bécu, a woman of enticing beauty, whose occupation was as a seamstress. Jeanne was a remarkably attractive woman who used her looks to take several aristocratic men as lovers.

In 1768 Jeanne married comte Guillaume Du Barry thus becoming Madame Du Barry. In the same year she attracted the attention of Louis XV while she was on an errand at Versailles.

Madame Du Barry went on to become one of France’s most well-known courtesans as well as the mistress of Louis XV. Due to her association with the King of France, Madame Du Barry enjoyed high status and privilege within the French court for many years.

The Dubarry events schedule is a busy calendar of the premier social, lifestyle and sporting occasions around the globe. Ranging from Burghley and Badminton Horse Trials, the CLA Game Fair and Cheltenham Races to the Chelsea Flower Show and Highland Show in the UK. We attend the Dublin Horse Show and the Balmoral Show in Ireland. Our ever expanding European circuit includes Salon du Cheval de Paris, Fiera Cavalli in Verona and a beautiful winter fair at Bückeburg Castle in Lower Saxony, Germany. In the USA you can find us at The Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event or wrapping up the summer at The Hampton Classic in Long Island, New York. The Dubarry stand is always one of the most visited of any show. People tell us they love the unique look of the stand. They love the care and attention they receive from our knowledgeable and friendly team. They love the range of footwear and clothing, all of which is available to try on, in our full range of sizes and colours. And of course, they love the free-flowing champagne!

IMPORTANT: yard manure, waste liquids and salt water can be very corrosive to leather. To prolong performance and protection for your Dubarrys, always scrub them with a brush and rinse with fresh tap water after exposure.

Cleaning the leatherHeavy mud and dirt should be removed initially under the tap with water and a brush. Make sure that yard manure and waste liquids are thoroughly rinsed off immediately with fresh tap water. The same applies to seawater and/or salt. The first part of the Dubarry care programme uses our scrub Cleaner, which is developed using skin care technology. It contains a light beaded material, which will aid in the removal of dirt and other residues. It leaves the footwear in prime condition ready for proofing and conditioning.

Drying the leatherAllow the boots to dry naturally before any further treatment. Never use artificial heat or leave in proximity to an open fire. For best results, air dry for a minimum of 48 hours.

Conditioning the leatherDubarry Conditioner is water-based flurochemical. It will condition the leather bringing it back to that new look while also offering water repellency and high levels of oil and stain resistance. It is of particular benefit to smooth and full grain leathers.

Protecting the leatherDubarry Protector was the world’s first water-based fluorochemical spray for footwear. The spray, in addition to restoring a water-repellent finish, offers a high-resistance to oil and stains. It is extremely durable and will work on all types of nubuck and suede leather.

Your Dubarry footwear is made to last, using the finest quality leather to ensure high performance and protection. But all leather needs care, and with a little time and the right treatments, your Dubarry footwear will stay supple and waterproof, whatever you do in yours...

Dubarry Leather CreamIn addition to the other three products described here, Dubarry strongly recommends for well-worn boots the use of our Leather Cream, especially in the flex part of the foot. This will help to protect, preserve and soften the leather. The Leather Cream is only to be used on the smooth leather.

Jack it in!It may seem like a small thing, but using a Dubarry Boot Jack to remove your Dubarrys will help prolong the life of the leather, by easing wear and tear that the repeated action of pulling boots on and off can cause.

The leatherThe leather used by Dubarry for its footwear is specially treated and absorbs less moisture and requires 70% less time to dry compared to other leather types. It also ensures that your Dubarry footwear will always be soft and supple. The leather used for the Dubarry footwear is the full cowhide with all its naturally occurring imperfections, providing the boots with a rugged ‘lived-in’ look.

GORE–TEX® is the ultimate waterproof membrane for Performance Footwear. It is the most durably waterproof and highly breathable bi–component material available. In addition to its waterproof and breathable characteristics, perspiration is also wicked away from the foot ensuring a dry and comfortable environment, even in the most extreme conditions.

Our Sailing Boots, Aquasport range, Deck and Casual Shoes all benefit from our award-winning sole system. The Dubarry NonSlip – NonMarking™ outsole, was born out of a brief to Dubarry’s in–house design team to produce ‘the best non–slip rubber outsole for grip on deck’. The result of that research and design work is a sole system that significantly reduces the potential for aquaplaning or slipping and is trusted by sailors around the world.

Specifically developed by Dubarry, the sole is directly moulded to the upper to create one piece, with no gluing or stitching, giving a perfect seal to keep out water. It has a durable rubber outsole and springy EVA innersole for lightweight optimal comfort. The soles on our Country Boots are also designed to be ‘stirrup friendly’ for light equestrian use and have also been rigorously tested for all outdoor pursuits. Dubarry Country boots also perform superbly in snow.
