Nicholas Sparks, Shabana Azmi, Chef Nobu, Bob Geldof and Russell Peters… with names of this calibre going though immigration at DXB, it’s no surprise that the city – regardless of whatever floats your boat – has been a veritable hub of excitement.

Now, art buffs and design aficionados have something to look forward to with the imminent launch of the Dubai Modern Art Museum and Opera House District. Work on the centre – located in Downtown Dubai – is expected to commence shortly and promises to position the city as a serious contender on the global art map.

Our personal culture binge continues this month as we gear up for a feast of films, music festivals, art auctions… and food, of course. Speaking of which, we hear that ice cream made from (wait for it…) camel’s milk will hit our shores in the middle of the year, just in time for the brutal summer heat. A taste of the desert infused with dates, saffron, caramel and chocolate… who would’ve thought?

And if you’d recently fallen off the radar, you can catch up on the highlights of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships along with all the festivities that marked its 20th anniversary. Next month, we’ll re-live the magic of the Dubai World Cup, journey through the flavours of Asia and show you the accessories you need to travel with that extra ‘oomph’. Stay tuned.

April Fool’s DayKeep a safe distance from the

pranksters in your life for as long as

your calendar tells you it’s the first

of the month… or be on the giving

end for a change! April Fool’s Day is

celebrated worldwide with practical

jokes of the harmless variety. One

theory states that it began in 1582

when the Gregorian calendar

replaced the Julian calendar and

New Year's Day was changed to

January 1. Because news travelled

slowly, many continued to celebrate

New Year's Day on April 1. Others

began to mock them, sending

them on "fool's errands" or tricking

them into believing something false.

Eventually, the practice spread

throughout Europe.

Tell A Lie Day If you’ve ever felt an affinity

with Pinocchio or Jim Carrey’s

character in Liar Liar, this is the

one day of the year to embrace

it. After all, how often do you get

permission to tell a little fib, slightly

stretch the truth or even create tall

tales to your heart’s content? In

an ironic twist, the USA celebrates

National Honesty Day on April

30, which encourages exactly the

opposite! The day was created

by author M. Hirsh Goldberg in

the early 1990s after four years

of researching and writing The

Book of Lies. He felt a month

that begins with a day dedicated

to lying should end on a higher

moral note.

World Health DayCelebrated annually, World Health

Day marks the founding of the

World Health Organisation in 1948

by drawing attention to a subject of

major importance to global health

with international and local events.

This year’s theme is ‘Ageing and

Health: good health adds life to

years’. Its focus is how good health

throughout life can help older men

and women lead full and productive

lives and be a resource for their

families and communities. It is

estimated that due to falling birth

rates and rising life expectancies

in most countries, the world will

soon have more older people than

children, leading to the need for

adapting healthcare systems.

Earth DayIntended to inspire appreciation for

the Earth's natural environment and

encourage responsible behaviour,

Earth Day was founded in 1970

as a response to environmental

degradation. Now 175 countries

observe it annually. This year’s

theme is Mobilise the Earth: people

of all backgrounds are urged to

demand that their governments

take steps toward protecting the

environment. Earth Day was founded

by US Senator Gaylord Nelson,

who realised that if he could infuse

the energy of the anti Vietnam War

movement with an emerging public

consciousness about pollution, it

would force environmental protection

onto the political agenda.

as the dubai duty Free Tennis Championships celebrated its 20th anniversary, the city enjoyed a fortnight of thrilling sports action alongside a string of stylish festivities. Missed it? Here are some of the tournament’s top highlights. words Samia qaiyum

Featuring a cast of the world’s top tennis stars, it’s no surprise that the recent Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships drew a record crowd of over 100,000 to the Dubai Tennis

Stadium. The first big upset of the WTA Tour event came on opening night, when 2011 runner-up Svetlana Kuznetsova was upset 2-6 7-6 6-4 by Dubai debutante Julia Goerges. The same day, Maria Kirilenko coincidently beat Monica Niculescu 6-3 6-0. Kirilenko had not won a match here since 2007, when she beat the same player by the same score in the same round!

On the second day, Agnieszka Radwanska emerged from the match against Aleksandra Wozniak with a 6-1 6-7 7-5 win. Ana Ivanovic won the battle of two former French Open champions by beating Francesca Schiavone, but Marion Bartoli – who had recently suffered an injury – hobbled her way to defeat Shuai Peng.

advantage: dubaiThere were no major upsets on the third day,

although US Open Champion Samantha Stosur was taken to three sets while top seed Victoria Azarenka was forced to withdraw with an ankle injury. Defending champion Caroline Wozniacki beat Simona Halep in straight sets.

The quarter-finals saw Jelena Jankovic continue her run of excellent results in Dubai, as she upset Stosur 6-4 6-2 to reach her fourth semi-final since 2005. Wozniacki emerged from a challenging encounter against Ivanovic with a 6-3 7-5 victory, Radwanska overwhelmed Sabine Lisicki 6-2 6-1 and Goerges continued her winning streak by beating Daniela Hantuchova 4-6 6-3 6-4.

Semi-finals day, and Wozniacki surrendered her crown when she was defeated 7-6 7-5 by Goerges. The battle took over two hours, with the outcome remaining in the balance right to the end. The other semi-final saw Radwanska get the better of Jankovic, winning 6-2 2-6 6-0 in an entertaining contest.

Winning the final 7-5 6-4, Radwanska had to work hard for her maiden victory right to the end against a talented but inconsistent opponent, even having to fight off a break point as she served for the match. “It feels great to be the champion,” said the Polish player. “I was pretty close to losing the first round, so I'm extremely happy. I was just better by a couple of points. Two tight sets, but I think in the important moments, I was more consistent.”

Goerges wasn’t disillusioned by her defeat, knowing she had offered a solid challenge: “I don't think I did so many things wrong, because Agnieszka’s a tough player and I was close to win both sets. I'm not disappointed because it was a big step in the right direction for me. I can be pretty proud of this week.”

Meanwhile, the opening day of the ATP tournament saw defeat for Djokovic. But it wasn’t defending champion Novak, but his brother Marko who lost to Andrey Golubev.

The world number one came through a competitive first round, beating Cedrik-Marcel Stebe 6-4 6-2, while American number one Mardy Fish crushed Andreas Beck 6-1 6-1.

Six of the eight seeds were in action on the second day, and all progressed. Roger Federer won the first 11 points of the match but saved a set point in the second set as he beat Michael Llodra 6-0 7-6. Meanwhile, Murray was stretched to three sets by Michael Berrer.

There was only one upset in the second round, as Fish went down to 2010 finalist Mikhail Youzhny. Federer came through a potentially dangerous meeting with Feliciano Lopez, winning 7-5 6-3.

Both Djokovic and Federer won their quarter-final matches without facing a break point, although the defending champion was set point down in the tiebreak before he defeated Janko Tipsarevic 6-1 7-6. Federer defeated Youzhny 6-3 6-4. Murray ended his losing streak against recent Montpellier winner Tomas Berdych, but it took him seven match points to wrap up his match 6-3 7-5. In a minor upset, eighth seed Juan Martin Del Potro defeated Wimbledon semi-finalist Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 7-6 6-2.

The semi-finals saw Murray upset Djokovic 6-2 7-5, with the world number one losing seven straight games at one stage. Federer overcame Del Potro in two tiebreaks, but was down 6-2 in the second set breaker before reeling off the final six points.

The final went to Federer as he overcame a strong challenge from Murray to win 7-5 6-4; this is his fifth Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships singles title. Both players produced a sensational game that had spectators at the packed Dubai Tennis Stadium screaming in delight, and the outcome was in the balance right to the end.

Federer faced break points for only the second time in the week when Murray led 40-15 on his serve for a 4-2 lead. He fought off the challenge, but Murray was finally

able to make a breakthrough at 5-5 when he claimed Federer’s serve on his fifth break point of the game.

In the second set it was Federer’s turn to hold the upper hand when he broke to lead 2-1. Murray responded by levelling at 3-3 but remained under pressure, surviving a break point in the next game but netting a double-handed backhand at 4-4 to leave Federer serving for the match.

“The match was close in both sets,” said Federer. “I just gave myself more opportunities

than Andy did overall. I felt really good out there. I felt calm knowing what I wanted to do. I used the surface to my advantage, which in the last year's finals I didn't."

Commenting on the atmosphere, he added: “Coming out to the Mexican Wave with the crowd singing my name was great. It gives you goosebumps; it's great motivation to play well. To win the tournament and win so often now is a beautiful thing. It's definitely got a special place in my heart, this tournament."

Murray was naturally disappointed at the outcome, but acknowledged that he’d enjoyed a great week: "Sets can come down to just a couple points. You get a lucky shot here or one great shot there and you can break the set wide open. So I think that was the difference in the first set; second set he played better. It was a good win yesterday, good win the day before, tough match today… so I'm happy with the week."

The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships is owned and organised by Dubai Duty Free and held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Turning 20Tennis aces Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic ascended the luxurious Burj Al Arab to take in the view of the Dubai skyline from its helipad while hitting a few balls. The two were delighted to see that an entire TV set had been positioned on the helipad, complete with a giant ‘20’ to celebrate the 20th anniversary of outstanding tennis in Dubai.

During the outside interview broadcast, the two players – along with Colm McLoughlin, Gerald Lawless and Salah Tahlak – reflected on the growth of the tournament, and of Dubai, over the past two decades.

Federer was full of praise for the tournament, which has grown to become one of the most popular on the world tennis circuit: "It has won awards thanks to the people sitting here with us, and they deserve it. The organisation is really well done. The top players in particular love coming here and they always have a great time."

Colm McLoughlin was justifiably proud of how the tournament has grown from just a bold plan in 1992 to the high profile success it is today: "I am especially proud of the Dubai Duty Free team that pulls it all together so well each year. The tournament has become a flagship event for the promotion of Dubai, and to be celebrating it here in such style is very exciting."

As the group left the Burj Al Arab, they were delighted to see its iconic sail light up with a laser show featuring the tournament logo, the first time the hotel has celebrated a sporting event in such a spectacular way. dv

WAT C H E S 1 0 1

“Time is money,” Benjamin Franklin advised over three centuries ago – and the fast pace of the today’s lifestyle has only confirmed this keen observation. Cell phones, iPads and our millions of necessary electronic devices offer dull flickering digital displays of the hours and minutes packed into each day.

But savvy consumers are revolting against these uninspiring options by investing in the singular beauty and luxurious mechanization of the world’s most exquisite timepieces. Four CEOs from the industry’s top producers – A. Lange & Söhne, Audemars Piguet, Baume & Mercier and La Montre Hermès – reveal the secrets behind the rage for these jewels for the wrist.

And the numbers reveal that this trend of investing in chronological sophistication stands to continue and even increase, as countries with emerging luxury markets escalate the demand for these timepieces. According to the Journal of Haute Horologerie, “Even as crises continue to shake Europe, Swiss watch-making has come up trumps, as the latest crop of positive results shows. First exports, which surged 19.2% to reach CHF 19.3 billion (USD 21.1 billion / EUR 16 billion) for the twelve months of 2011. This is 13% up on the previous record of 2008. The different groups in the sector have also all posted double-digit growth. In 2011, Swatch's gross sales breached CHF 7 billion for the first time, gaining 21.7% at constant exchange rates to CHF 7.15 billion (USD 7.83 billion / EUR 5.92 billion). This boosted profit by 12.4% to CHF 1.6 billion (USD 1.75 billion / EUR 1.32 billion).”

Wilhelm Schmid, CEO for A. Lange & Söhne, explains that the reasons for this excellent growth may be surprising. “The boot is on the other foot: In a modern world

Fresh off the heels of baSELWORLd 2012, we’re reminded that luxury watches are still very much a sound investment. WORDS Joanne Molina

Just in timethat is determined by acceleration and mass production there is growing desire to slow down and an increased demand for the handmade one-off object. High-end mechanical timepieces fulfill this desire because they symbolise the value of time. Winding a beautiful watch and taking delight in the intricate mechanism and the many precious details is the ultimate art of deceleration. And there is yet another aspect: In times of volatile economic conditions, value retention has become an important aspect in buying decisions.”

Value retention is indeed another key to this surge in consumer spending. Francois-Henry Bennahmias, President & CEO of Audemars Piguet North America Inc. says that exclusivity is an important factor in their success. “Recent auction results continue to reinforce the importance of our brand with collectors who

recognize the brand not only for its unique designs but its technical innovations as well. Ultimately, a client who buys an Audemars Piguet timepiece not only appreciates it for the design but also values the brand's exclusivity and exceptional craftsmanship.”

But worth is determined by an emotional response – the seduction of tasteful eyes is not only carried out by the story each object tells, but also by time-honored craftsmanship and meticulous detailing. Luc Perramond, CEO of La Montre Hermès (LMH), muses about the magic spell of the perfectly appointed timepiece, “What makes luxury timepieces highly desirable is the fine craftsmanship, the merge between technology and poetry. At Hermès, we write a kind of philosophy of time. Hand craftsmanship lies at the core of the aesthetic cultivated by the House of Hermès. A range of precious skills is constantly celebrated, and the objects created tell the story of the ties between hand and mind. Every year, La Montre Hermès creates exceptional timepieces that express the talent of our different craftsmen. Then time stands as a friend, a resource that enables our craftsmen to create unique objects.”

But sometimes it’s the personal that makes a timepiece priceless. “In our world surrounded by technology, choosing a luxury watch is more than just simply for telling the time! It mainly tells who you are, who you want to be, and is a reflection of not only your style but also of your personality and where you are going in life,” says Baume & Mercier CEO Alain Zimmermann. “Beyond a personality mirror, a luxury watch should be also considered as a lifelong companion that will be transmitted to the future generations. Watches are also important milestones of the most precious moments in life: graduation, birthdays, engagement, anniversaries….”

Time flies: current trends and the future of luxury timepieces

According to Zimmerman, there are three trends driving today’s buyer: “Larger sizes offering a more prominent appearance of a watch is a big trend, for both women and men. Red/rose gold is also a trend – the material is very elegant, and its warm tones embody a more contemporary spirit than the previously wider seen yellow gold, and the ability to personalize a timepiece is demanded more and more – in a society where products are becoming universal,

personalization is key. To match with this request, we offer the opportunity to engrave personal messages on the sundeck décor of the case back from each of our collections.”

But Schmid adds that, “As a global trend we see an increasing demand for timepieces with sophisticated complications. We have met this trend in the past two decades and we have addressed it again recently with the hero of our 2012 collection, the Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar. It combines two grand

complications in the iconic Lange 1 style: the world’s first perpetual calendar equipped with a rotating month ring; and a tourbillion which is equipped with our patented stop-seconds mechanism.” Bennahvmias also notes how buyers are embracing the abundance of new materials. “There is a real interest in the use of new materials – ceramic, titanium and forged carbon are three such examples we have been using in our designs, about which we are receiving an overwhelmingly positive response from clients.”

And while these trends will undoubtedly continue into the future, there are some very special things in store for buyers who are looking beyond the banal and into the vibrant world of couture timepieces.

Perramond reveals the delights in store for La Montre Hermès: “Since 2008 the primary mission assigned to [us] was to become a major growth driver within the Group, a mission that is today gradually reached. On February 9th 2011, the sales results of Hermès were published showing that the watches reached an upper growth of 23% achieving a result stronger than the ones recorded by the Group. That means that our strategy aiming at rebalancing the product mix between male and female segment and quartz and mechanical movements has already reached a new stage. Celebrating almost one century of watch-making, La Montre Hermès will assert its mechanical watch-making expertise

Bennahmias says that, in a sense, the future of Audemars Puguet lies in it’s past. “This year is a significant year for Audemars Piguet as it is the 40th anniversary of the Royal Oak The Royal Oak is considered by many to be one of the most iconic watch designs, as it was the first-ever luxury stainless steel sports watch in an era when gold was considered the only high-end option.” These museum-quality pieces will also be on display at prominent cultural institutions around the globe. “To commemorate this milestone, we have

created an exhibition of over 100 rare timepieces from our museum in Le Brassus that will travel to key cities over the next year – including New York, Milan, Paris, Dubai, Beijing and Singapore.”

A. Lange & Söhne sees it’s future in their expansion into the stylish hands of the Middle East. “We see great market potential for our brand. Therefore, we will continue our efforts to actively develop the region and open boutiques in strategic locations,” says Schmid. Each school has 90 minutes to take the dancers, drums and floats that represent their own samba style and traditions from one end of the Sambadrome to the other. After days of brutal competition, the winner marches in the final “Parade of Champions”.

Renowned Scottish sculptor and public artist Andy Scott has been commissioned to create The Kelpies, a 29-metre-high sculpture that will be the main attraction at Scotland’s Helix Eco Park. Named after the mythical Celtic water horse, the 400 tonne, stainless steel horse heads will be among the biggest horse sculptures in the world, when placed in situ next year. A temporary installation of two four-metre-tall maquettes of The Kelpies have been installed outside Edinburgh Airport in a bid to generate interest in the multi-million dollar Helix Eco Park project. Scott's larger-than-life sculptures have been seen in various parts of the world from Sydney to Spain; he was recently in Dubai exploring opportunities to export his unique art style to these shores. dv

Four uaE nationals who recently graduated from a dubai

airports’ sponsored programme are en route to joining an elite

group of Emirati air traffic controllers in the private sector.

Hussain awadh, Saeed al Haj, Mohamed al Meqbali and Salahudin

al balooshi were recruited in late 2010 as trainees through the daNS

(dubai air Navigation Services) National development Programme in air

Traffic Control, which is funded by dubai airports and administered by

dubai international’s aTC service provider Serco. Currently undergoing

on-the-job training at the control tower of dubai World Central (dWC),

the quartet will be fully licensed professional controllers by June, paving

the way for their full-time employment with Serco.

Congratulating the graduates on the successful completion of their

yearlong training, Samya Ketait, VP Learning and development at dubai

airports, said that the National development Programme in air Traffic

Control is in line with the organisation’s commitment to providing uaE

nationals opportunities for career development through training and

successful in opening doors of opportunity for aspiring youngsters in

the private sector. The Emirati graduates are starting out on a rewarding

career path and doing so in the competitive environment will definitely

bring out the best in them,” she said.

All the write elementsContinuing its sponsorship of the Emirati Strand for the second

consecutive year, dubai airports was a prominent supporter and

participant at the recent Emirates airline Festival of Literature

(EaFoL) that brought together bookworms, bibliophiles and lovers

of all things language.

Two of the company’s employees – an author on regional

aviation history and a kandura-clad hip hop artist – also participated

at the festival.

Ghassan amhaz, a veteran arabic journalist and a media relations

manager, hosted a session titled ‘The open skies of dubai: why

aviation has played a crucial role in dubai’s growth’. His book From

the Creek to the Skies about the city’s aviation history was launched

at the dubai airshow 2011. amhaz also joined arabic authors abdul

aziz al Mahmoud and ahmed Mourad in a panel discussion on the

challenges faced by writers in the Middle East.

ilmiyah, an employee of dubai airports and lead singer of the Emirati

hip hop band desert Heat, returned this year to enlighten listeners at a

session dubbed ‘an arabian hip hop revolution’ with his partner and

brother arableak. The duo also added a touch of bling to EaFoL with

a performance that

demonstrated the

evolution of hip hop

music in the region.

Taking place from

March 6-10, EaFoL

featured over 115

authors including

award-winning

English and arabic

writers, poets and

journalists from

over 25 countries.

Jamal al-Hai,

Executive Senior

Vice President,

Communications &

international affairs,

described dubai

airports’ association

with the event as a

progression of the company’s commitment to promoting global

cultural understanding through literature, as well as its efforts to

highlight the Emirati culture by enabling exposure for budding and

established uaE national authors.

“Events like Emirates airline Festival of Literature enable people

of different cultures from all around the world to come together in

their pursuit of happiness of connecting with and understanding

others, and in many ways, that is very much similar to what we do

at the airport. dubai airports is proud to be associated with the

festival and we wish and look forward to another successful year

for the event,” he said.

This year’s Emirati Strand featured some of uaE’s most celebrated

writers, including abdulaziz al Musallam, known as ‘the fairy tale man’

because of his storytelling skills as well as dha’en Shaheen, writer

and Editor-in-Chief of al bayan. Well-known poets Khalid albudoor

was launched in September

2011 with the opening of

the Lycee school, which will eventually provide education to 720 children. dubai

duty Free was among the travel retailers that provided financial support, making

74 DUBAI VOYAGER

I N TRANS I T W I TH

Is this your first visit to Dubai? Not at all. I first came here in 2001 for the opening of Dubai Media City. It was still early days; Hard Rock Café was the tallest thing around. I went out there thinking, “It’s in the middle of nowhere!” It’s beautiful now with the marina’s shadows across the area. I’m blown away by what’s happened here in 11 years. One place you’ve always wanted to visit, but never got around to it?Australia; I’m embarrassed to say it because I have many Australian friends. My manager got me and my daughter Zara a map; we put pins on where we’d been together. She’s turning six and she's visited places that even I haven’t. She spent four weeks with me last summer and I printed our itinerary thinking, “What am I doing?” It was 10 flights to 5 countries; 12 cities in 4 time zones. But Zara’s like me; she just puts on her backpack and goes.

How would you describe the current state of world politics to her?I can’t use swear words, can I? I’d say many things are messed up, but there are some good things going on too. You have to focus on the good, be aware of the bad, and learn about

both so you have a good perspective in judging which is which.

What have your world travels taught you? That the world is a small place. It’s different travelling now compared with when I was a boy. In a way, travel has become easier since it’s faster. It’s harder from the security viewpoint, especially with a name like Khan… I get the free health check regularly! I go through ‘random’ security checks even though I’m cleared by the FBI. The funny thing is, the guys pulling me over go, “Mr. Khan, how’s your show?” They’re very friendly, but it is ironic.

You’ve been interviewing people throughout your career. How does it feel to be on the other side?I’ve done interviews from an early stage since I co-hosted the first show on the BBC World Service TV. People noticed because I was the first South Asian on BBC's mainstream news. Later on CNN, it was the same thing. In fact, I think CNN saw me and thought, “We haven’t got a brown person like him!” and offered me a job. It became tricky when I always had to defend the channel I worked for. I find it easy though because I’m a fairly open person.

Let’s play the one-word association game with some of your high-profile interviewees:The Dalai Lama – wittyImran Khan – enigmaticQueen Noor – elegantHillary Clinton – sharpBill Clinton – charmingNelson Mandela – that’s a tough one because he was in a bad mood… unique

One interview that you would do over?I can’t think of one; each had its own merit. Going on the first point of association mode, I'd say Peter Gabriel. There’s nothing I'd change about the interview. It was funny sitting with this incredibly shy man, who on stage is larger than life. I ran about 45 minutes – double the time I needed – since there was so much I wanted to ask. The reason I'd re-do it is perhaps without a time limit.

Most fascinating person in your contacts list? Uri Geller. People think I’m strange saying this because he’s a bit eccentric. He’s a paranormalist and does things like telepathy and bending spoons. I was looking for controls but couldn’t see anything that explains it. He has something... I think even he doesn’t fully know what he has.

You wrote your new book in only seven days. What’s your secret? It’s focus, to some degree. My TV training taught me to type quickly and copyedit as I go, which helps. What’s relevant is the thoughts are so filled in my head that I’m struggling to get them down. It’s the opposite of writer’s block: I’m trying to block as much as I can so it doesn’t all just spill out and I get ahead of myself.

Why did you leave Al Jazeera English?I didn’t actually leave; they keep telling me I’m still there, which I find strange when I don’t have a show. We had a change in management and suddenly, my shows were out of the equation. It's frustrating because they were the most popular; we had a great team and covered a lot of diverse issues. I’m talking to them about a new show, and we’re trying to fix things now.

What advice would you give to the Riz that hosted the BBC World's inaugural show in 1991?I was 29 then, so I’d tell him to be more disciplined: “Keep up the exercise programme and stay off the mithai! Look after yourself because your genes make you prone to putting on weight.” It’s that dangerous combination of a Punjabi appetite and Gujarati sweet tooth. Sitting on airplanes eats up a lot of time... when planes have gyms, mine’s going to be the first seatbelt clicking off! dv

Journalist, TV host and author Riz Khan is instantly recognisable, courtesy of his illustrious career with the BBC, CNN and Al Jazeera English. Samia Qaiyum met with him to discuss the launch of his comic fiction We Interrupt Our Programming at the Emirates LitFest… only to discover that behind the poised TV persona is a passion for philanthropy, a refreshingly candid sense of humour and the most endearing love-hate relationship with food.

NO RIZERVATIONS

I'd change about the interview. It was funny sitting with this incredibly shy man, who on stage is larger than life. I ran about 45 minutes – double the time I needed – since there was so much I wanted to ask. The reason I'd re-do it is perhaps without a time limit.
