    Report of workshop for Bridgend Inspiring Growth

    6-8.45pm, 15th March 2012

    Present: Will, Anna, John, Ellie, Katy, Tavis, Judy

    Facilitated by Tom Black, using material from DTAs Cultivating Enterprisepack.

    The following were agreed as a working draft for the Bridgend InspiringGrowth project:

    1. Vision

    To inspire growth on a collective and individual level through promotingtailored and supportive activities and projects that work in harmony with thelocal environment for the positive development of people and place forBridgend and the surrounding communities of Inch, Moredun, Liberton andCraigmillar.

    2. Mission

    To develop an inclusive community-led organization that is empowered toconfidently and skillfully take on and develop an asset (Bridgend Farmhouse)to provide appropriate, sustainable initiative for the local community.

    3. Community/ Beneficiaries

    The communities of Bridgend, Inch, Moredun, Craigmillar and Liberton inparticular:

    Current and potential users of Craigmillar Castle Park

    Young adults (17-35) with learning difficulties

    School leavers lacking practical experience People facing health inequalities

    Those less able to secure volunteering and further educationalopportunities for themselves

    Others in the above communities

    4. Key Local Needs:

    5. Strategic Aims / Outcomes (to be finalised):

    1. Allow people to employ their time learning new skills and sharingexisting skills which will help them move on to more positivedestinations and build their confidence.

    2. Local people will be able to make healthier choices by gaining accessto food resources and valuing healthy food ( by creatingopportunities for people to have an involvement with all aspects of food- grow, have greater knowledge/ experience and cook healthy, lowcosts and delicious food.]

    3. Empower people to engage in physical activity and their environmentenabling them to take pride in own health and therefore be healthierand happier

    6. Objectives / Main Activity Areas:

    The following activities were identified by local people and organisationsthrough BIGs various consultation work over the previous year as possibilitiesfor the Farmhouse. The group prioritized these by voting on those that mostclearly contribute to each of the identified local needs above. Each personwas given 5 votes per need.

    7. Assessment as Business Ideas

    Members of the group then worked together in pairs or threes to assess the

    above activities (asterisked) as business ideas to provide a quick, initial senseof their feasibility and practicality. Each activity was scored against 7 criteria,with 5 being the highest (most feasible) score and 1 the lowest for each.Therefore, the total possible score was 35 for each.
