If your audio file is not in one of the mentioned formats (wav, aiff, mp3), youneed to convert it.
If you need to convert a sound file, you can use Switch Audio File Conversion Software. It is free and there is a Mac and PC version. Download and install as per instructions.
To convert the file it is as simple as 'adding' it, then selecting the output f d i h 'C ' bformat, and pressing the 'Convert' button.
.AUDACITY.1. File->Open the audio file that you want to sample from.
2. Select the sample you want to create a file from by click-dragging on the timeline. The selected portion shows up darker.
3. File->Export selection as... to save the sample in the file format you desire.
