COST MANAGEYOUR TRAVELS

BUDGETING WITH RANA JAN

MANAGE YOUR TRANSIT Try to save by alternating between regional airlines or low cost airlines for your connecting flight.

B U S I N E S S

USE DIFFERENT SEARCH ENGINES Do not depend on airline and hotel websites only. Travel search engines could yield better offers.

CONSIDER DIFFERENT DATES Avoid weekends if possible; one day before or after saves you a good sum.

The Author:Rana JanFinance graduate with

experience in banking, treasury, financial planning and corporate banking relationship management. Email: [email protected]

BENEFIT FROM YOUR MILEAGE If you are not registered in any airline mileage program, it’s about time you do. Reaching high points will give you access to first class lounge regardless where your seat on the plane is.

Revise your travel shopping behaviors to make room for more pocket money.

“FLEXIBLE BOOKING”

option will always have

an added cost, but I

recommend you go for it

and pay extra, since there

is always a risk of losing

your money due to sudden

change in plans.

ON THE PLANE For flights of six hours or less, aim for economy or premium. Flying on higher classes is not essential provided you are healthy.

PLAN YOUR SEARCH WELL IN ADVANCE

(Generally 30 – 45 days earlier).

Check for fares on a frequent basis for cost comparisons and promotions. The same applies for hotel bookings.

IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE FIVE STARS Consider dropping the idea of a five star hotel. Filter your search to affordable boutique hotels with high cleanliness standards.

Established in 1940, A.H. Al Gosaibi and Bros is one of the oldest and most powerful businesses in and from Sharqiya. Their list of achievements is long, from construction and manufacturing to travel and tourism, but for this month’s issue we spoke to Sahar Al Gosaibi, Head of CSR, Property and Insurance, on their community service and social responsibility programs.

The company’s CSR department has been in place since 1940, donating locally and internationally and contributing to the beautification of the province. They even founded Fatat El Khaleej, a social welfare society.

Recently Al Gosaibi and her team decided to focus on sustainable programs that help the community and encourage the growth of small businesses. “The more you involve yourself in bettering people’s lives,” says Al Gosaibi, “the better you will feel about yourself.”

Seventy-six years of giving back to community and still going strong.

She shared with us a few of the initiatives they’ve been working on.

One of those programs is Pop-Up Al Gosaibi, a short-lease store space located in Al Gosaibi Village, Khobar. The pop-up shop offers local entrepreneurs a space to test consumer demand and evaluate the market before committing to a long-term lease elsewhere. They collaborated with Desert Designs to fully furnish the store for each tenant.

Page 23: DS Issue 7

19DESTINATIONKSA.COM

Web: ahalgosaibigroup.com Email: [email protected]

A.H. Al Gosaibi has sponsored various other initiatives since the beginning of 2016 including the Eastern Province Society for the Disabled, Tamkiin Orphans Association, Eshraq Organization, Wud Charity and Albir Charity. This is but a fraction of the company’s reach as they are committed to giving back to the community in every way possible.

A.H. Al Gosaibi also has an internal CSR program where employees are encouraged to volunteer in the community and fun events are organized to strengthen the ties between employers and employees. The Al Gosaibi tag line has always been: “Our people are our family.”

Al Gosaibi’s advice to businesses looking to get involved in the community is simple: “Look at what the community needs and work accordingly. You can’t do everything so pick your objectives and focus and expand on them. A company can’t survive without the community.”

Another recent initiative is 966 Box Park, which was a project Al Gosaibi believed in wholeheartedly. An art enthusiast at heart, she loved the proposed concept of the graffiti-themed event. She then offered the organizers the old Pepsi warehouse which was the perfect size at a prime location. They supported the event with full force, from subsidizing the rent to providing materials and maintenance.

TAKING CARE OF BUSINESSGot an informal meeting planned and nowhere to go? We’ve got options.By Ahmad Dialdin

Le Meridien Al Khobar Hotel

This is a classic choice. At any point in time you'll find groups of people sitting at the Latitude 26 cafe in the lobby, working away at their laptops or having animated discussions. They're either consultants having a pow-wow as they tackle one of their endless tasks, or they're business owners and clients having an informal business meeting about future collaborations and projects. The cafe simply oozes business.

This is another excellent hotel lobby option with comfy chairs and refreshing coffee, but it’s got the added feature of being right on the beach; perfect for when you need a break from your meeting to stretch your legs and get some brisk sea air to inspire you.

PASSIONATE PRODUCTIONS

Tell us a little bit about yourself. My name is Abdulrahman Hasan Sandokji and I am originally from Madinah. I studied Industrial Engineering at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM) and then decided to pursue my passion in filmmaking. I’m the founder, creative director and executive producer at Vizyon Creative Media. I like making films that have noble, refined messages but are still entertaining.

Meet Abdulrahman Sandokji, the brilliant mind behind Vizyon Creative Media.

Can you tell us about some of your projects? One of our first projects was Wamahyaya, a show that aired on MBC in Ramadan right before Khawater. It was presented by Dr. Waleed Fitaihi, CEO of the International Medical Center in Jeddah, talking about health concepts and facts presented in an interesting way and linked to religion.

Our most successful projects was a documentary called

Phosphine, about a toxic substance used in farms and illegally in houses to kill rodents. The documentary was very tragic and investigative, similar to director Michael Moore’s style.

Alzheimer’s was a similarly-styled movie about the prevalence of the disease in the Kingdom, showing real cases in Madinah, Jeddah and Riyadh and exposing their reality to Saudi viewers. We hoped to reach Saudi

equipment and got me involved in the industry. Projects started coming by and, before I knew it, I was earning money making short films and ads.

How would you describe the Saudi film industry? The Saudi film industry was only established a short while ago but with hardly any support. Now, with the 2030 vision, it’s clear that the government is caring more about creative media and content. Film festivals are being held, Saudi films have been nominated for international festivals and

households dealing with this issue and help them make better decisions for their family members suffering from the disease.

How did you get into filmmaking? My first attempt was back in 2008 during my college days: Cashcool, a YouTube vlog about my life and beliefs, shot using a Nokia mobile phone.

After that I met with Badr Al Hamud, one of the best directors in Sharqiya, who taught me how to use film

students are getting scholarships to study film abroad. These are all positive signs.

What is your advice for people who want to get involved in the creative industry?Be patient because only passionate people can survive in this industry. Try out several styles and work on any project that comes to you because you have to practice constantly in order learn about the industry, learn from your mistakes and learn about yourself.

Be sure to attend any production process you hear about,

even if it means just carrying equipment

around. Watch and learn!

MOST IMPORTANTLY: BE AROUND CREATIVE

PEOPLE ALWAYS.

STOP CONSUMING & START CREATING!The key ingredients to being successful on YouTube, brought to you by Niflick.

With over three years of intensive research under his belt and a lifetime of gaming, YouTuber and gamer Mohammed AlKhajah (aka Niflick) shared his insight into the world of professional YouTubing. “Before thinking about the business aspect of a YouTube channel, you have to be passionate about the content you’re thinking of creating,” said Niflick. “It’s going to need a lot of research, motivation and a whole lot of work.”

According to Niflick, the top factors that will put a YouTuber on the road to success are as follows:

Connecting With Your Community Every channel is a community. You create content to connect and engage with your community and this helps you grow on YouTube. With gamers, commentary full of excitement and fun is what keeps that connection with their viewers. Find out what works for your area of interest and work towards it.

A R T S & E N T E R TA I N M E N T

By Tuba Saricimen EquipmentBefore starting your channel, do your research to know the equipment you need in order to create content in your area of interest. For gamers like Niflick, the most important piece would be a game capture device.

Technical SkillsEditing: Editing style depends on personal preference. Think of the editing style you want your content to have and learn how to obtain the outcome you’re looking for.

Practicing editing and learning the editing software inside and out is key to making the editing process painless.

Search Engine OptimizationYouTube uses algorithms and compiles its searches over many factors such as keywords, watch time, audience retention and engagement. The only thing a content creator can control are the keywords, be it in the title, description or tags. Learning how to write keywords are vital to being ranked well by YouTube.

ConsistencyWhether you upload a video a week or two videos a day, consistency is essential. The more consistent you are, the more YouTube promotes you. In addition, you give subscribers a reason and a time to come back to your channel.

“Whatever path you choose for your channel, having fun is key,” urged Niflick. “If you’re not going to have fun through those long hard hours, you’re not going to be able to stay motivated.”

Apply a primer before your eye shadow to make it last without creasing and to make the colors to pop. A thin layer of MAC's Soft Ocher will work wonders!

Next, apply a nude or a yellow shadow all over your lid; this will make it easier for you to blend your shadows. You can even use your face powder.

If you're going for a stronger eye color, using neutral transition shades between dark colors will make it easier for you to blend in.

Intensify glittery eyeshadow by spraying Fix Plus eye drops or any other face mist you have on your brush first. Or just use your finger for a stronger look.

EID CHIC from Day to Night

Professional makeup tips to rock your look this Eid.By Norah Al Eisa

Make sure to use sun protection, preferably an oil-free sunscreen so it won’t allow your makeup to slide off later on during the day.

For a dewy and long-lasting look, apply Stila’s All Day foundation and concealer. To set the concealer, go with yellow-toned setting powder to brighten up the under eye area.

For a dramatic sultry eye look, add a maroon color to your matte bronzy daytime shadow, with a bit of shimmer at the center of the lid (Colorpop Stereo 2). Add a jet black long-lasting gel liner to top it all off (Inglot no.77 gel liner).

LOOK 1

For a long-lasting contour, apply a cream contour and then a powder contour on top to set it all in place. Skip the eyeliner and apply black eye shadow instead for a soft daytime look.

Transform your look for night by adding a fun pop of color to the lips.

Professional makeup

artist Rasha Al Madhayan

last all day and transform

your look from daytime appropriate to nighttime

To start off this matte look, spritz on a bit of Skindinavia’s oil control primer spray. This will control the shine and allow your makeup to last throughout the day. Achieve a

luminous matte finish to the skin by applying Dolce and Gabbanna’s full coverage foundation with a beauty blender.

Change up your look by swapping the pink lipstick for a red one instead (pro tip: go for a red lipstick with blue undertones, as it will make your teeth appear whiter).

Apply winged eyeliner and smudge it out for an instant glam cat eye.

1. BURGER FUEL Vanilla ShakeNo twists, no funny business, just a good ol' vanilla milkshake. And they're very generous with the amount too, so maybe skip the burger and just come for the shake! PS: If you're a UoDstudent, show your student ID and get 10 percent off.

2.DAIRY QUEEN Vanilla ShakeA close second is Dairy Queen; it’s almost a tie really. Great taste for a great price, saving you a few Riyals compared to the others on this

PACK YOUR BAGS NOT YOUR STOMACH!How to maintain a healthy diet while on vacation.

Airports are notorious for fast food restaurants and shops selling unhealthy, processed snack foods. When you’re waiting around the airport for your flight and hunger strikes, these may seem like the only choices unless you plan ahead and put together some quick and healthy alternatives:a. A mix of raw nuts and dried fruit can make an easy trail mix.b. Healthy bars, nuts, or fresh fruits are simple and require zero prep.

1 Pack Healthy Snacks

2 Find a Nearby Supermarket

Find a supermarket as soon as you get to your destination and load up on fresh fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds, yogurt and other healthy snack foods that you like. These can serve as grab-and-go snacks if you go out exploring, sightseeing, or just to keep you going in between meals. You can also make some of that delicious trail mix you had at the airport to keep with you.

3 4 Staying physically active on your trips can help offset any extra calories and prevent unwanted weight gain while you go about enjoying delicious foods. Try to look for ways to explore the city that include physical activity. Opt out of taking taxis or public transportation when a bicycle ride or walk is possible. Riding a bike, or more adventurous activities like kayaking are all fun activities to do while exploring a city or the wilderness while giving you the extra benefit of calorie burn.

Take some time to look into the food options that will be available to you on your vacation. Most restaurants will post their menus online so it’s a good idea to look at them beforehand. a. Choose meats and seafood that are grilled, baked, broiled, steamed, or roasted instead of fried.b. Ask for accompaniments to be separated on the side, such as salad dressing, mayonnaise, sour cream and cheese.c. Substitute vegetables or salad for the fried side dishes.

Do Your Research Set Aside Some Time for Physical Activity

It’s okay to splurge here and there; after all you’re on vacation. But, always think of moderation when indulging in your favorite foods. For example, if you’re going to have dessert, try to share it with others. Or if you know you’re going to want pizza for dinner, try to eat lighter throughout the day. Remember, it’s always about moderation and balance.

Below is a list of suggestions you can try to raise your metabolism.

EAT ENOUGHCutting down drastically on food intake can actually have an opposite effect, resulting in weight gain. When you consume less than your basic biological function (estimate of calories you need per day based on BMI), your body starts breaking down muscles for energy. So make sure you are eating the right amount of calories.

Lifestyle tips for burning fat quick and easy.

As we grow, our metabolism starts decreasing. This sounds depressing, but rest assured, there are actually numerous ways to fight this.

Increase Your

BURN FAT WITH FIBERAim for about 25 grams of fiber a day (three servings each of fruits and vegetables). Research shows that fiber can fire up your fat burn by 30 percent.

According to a Japanese study, caffeine is known to stimulate the nervous system, so that daily cup of coffee can actually help increase your metabolism by 5-8 percent and a cup of tea can raise itby 12 percent.

Iron is vital for carrying the oxygen your muscles need to burn fat; women, specifically, tend to lose iron each month due to menstruation. If you are not replenishing, then you run the risk of low energy and metabolism. Good sources of iron include lean meats, beans, shellfish and spinach.

Your body requires protein to maintain muscle mass. Protein increases post-meal calorie burn by 35 percent. Good sources of protein include legumes, nuts, fish and poultry.

The easiest 350 calories you'll

ever burn: Small movements such

as taking the stairs or standing to talk on the

phone can add up to an extra 350 calories burned per day.

Vitamin D is important for maintaining metabolism- revving muscle tissue. Many do not include adequate amounts in their diets. You can easily incorporate it by having salmon, tuna, shrimp, milk, cereal, tofu and eggs. Same goes for calcium deficiency; research shows that consuming calcium through dairy foods such as fat-free milk and low-fat yogurt helps reduce fat absorption from other foods.

Research suggests that pesticides can initiate weight gain; choose organic when purchasing vegetables and fruit, since the non-organic versions tend to have the highest levels of pesticides.

of years of rainfall in the western mountainous region and filling a desert basin across the country.

We’ve been relying on that basin for our homes, industry and agriculture for decades. Based on the 2014 National Water Strategy Report, 80 percent of it has gone to local agriculture that has been unable to fulfill its goal of food self-sufficiency.

What does this mean for us? We have to change our mindset from consumption consumption consumption and think about what we can do to reverse things.

Our precious water supply is dwindling and our consumption is rising, so I interviewed Saudi environmental activist Najwa Al Bukhari about what we could do to protect it.

Great, so we just go out and plant trees everywhere then?We still have a lot to study. Where to plant and what to plant is critical to this equation and we need to learn how others such as Kenya, a region in China and Jordan did it. There’s even a project near Makkah implementing these very principles.

So what can we do? I always look for hope. Where I’ve found it is in permaculture, a farming system that has been able to bring rain back to arid lands.

Trees bring about clouds and the more we plant smartly the more likely we will stop the dust storms that are an ever-present reality for us, which is a far cry from the blue skies of my childhood. This way we can find a solution.

In permaculture there are certain trees that are planted in desert climates, with root systems that go vertically instead of horizontally, and they go very deep.

If you feel inspired to help the water / dust storm cause please contact Email: [email protected] 2: [email protected].

Helping our government empowers everyone

and our government has carried the brunt of our water expenses for too

long. Permaculture directly addresses the root cause and helps us fix our water and dust storm problems.

If we put our minds together and seek experts – like Geoff Lawton who’s in Jordan – then there’s hope. There are databases that say what grows best at what latitude and there are individuals in the government who are willing to help.

So what exactly is kitesurfing? It’s a wind sport where you ride a kiteboard (small surfboard similar to a wakeboard) while attached to a large kite; just let the wind do the rest to pull you over the water.

Riders can use the power of the kite to make very high jumps and move across the water faster than most sailboats. The sport has many disciplines including recreational riding on flatwater, surfing waves, freestyle tricks, racing and long-distance touring.

SURF’S UP!For this month’s issue, we spoke to a kitesurfing addict - Ikaraam Ullah!

What do you need to get started? You’ll need a kite with bar and lines, a harness and a board. Safety equipment including helmet, life jacket, booties and safety knife are also important. Kiters fly small trainer kites on land to learn about kite control, then they move to the water to learn how to use the kite to pull them through the water. They then add a board and start taking their first rides downwind. So where can I find lessons and equipment? The kites we use generate a lot of momentum so they need to be respected with the right

kind of training; don’t try to train yourself simply with YouTube. Mishal Extreme Outdoors provides lessons and rental kite gear at the local Half Moon Bay kitesurfing spot. You can buy equipment from a North brand representative in Sharqiya (kitesurfkhobar.com) as well as many online international retailers. If you are unsure what might work, just ask one of the surfers present at the beach.

When’s a good time to go kitesurfing?

What are the spots you would recommend?Any windy day!

There is wind all year round in

Sharqiya, but summer is definitely the best time

to kite because of the stronger Shamal winds and warm water. Kite surfers usually meet close to the southern-most point of

Half Moon Bay. They can be found over there on any windy weekend afternoon.

Who are the people in your current group of surfers? The Khobar kitesurfing group is an eclectic mix of more than fifty kitesurfers (both Saudi and international). About a third of the surfers are beginners or learning, so everyone is welcome.

Half Moon Bay is shallow water so it’s ideal for beginners. The sport welcomes all ages; our riders range from 15 to 60 years old. There are a growing number of women in the sport in Saudi too.

Let’s talk about the spiritual wonder that is Eid prayer.By Eman Bukhari

All over the world, at least 1.6 billion people wake up at dawn on the first of Shawwal to celebrate Eid Al Fitr – the celebration of breaking the fast, a Muslim occasion that marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. This practice dates back to the second Hijri year/ 623 AD

and is celebrated differently from one Muslim community to the other, but its essence is uniform throughout the world and it begins with the Eid prayers.

You make your way to the Eid musalla on foot in the morning with your family, greet your neighbors dressed in their finest clothes, take a deep breath and smell the sweetest perfumes, wish strangers a Eid

Mubarak, and sneak in line with the children as eidiyat (loose change) and small treats are handed out.

Up until it’s time for prayer, mosques will perform takbeerat, with everyone in attendance chanting along in unison. The prayer itself is two raka’as, and within the prayer different numbers of takbeerahs are given. The prayer is closed with a sermon.

The reasoning behind the practice in combination with the action is what gives you the overwhelming sense of spirituality. Your heart flutters when you witness your whole community lining up; you get goose-bumps hearing your Muslim brothers thank Allah and praise His greatness in one voice.

The image represents what we have to be thankful for

and why we need to praise our Creator. You see humanity standing side by side in agreement on our blessings and purpose on Earth.

The prayer carries immeasurable religious merit and is described as the reward after a month of fasting and hard work. Everyone is encouraged to attend so that you stand ready to collect Allah’s gift.

Eid prayers are not only conducted in mosques,

but designated neighborhood

musallas as well. Below are some in Sharqiya:

• Mosala Eid Al Kaber, Garnada Neighborhood,

We are all working to get closer to Allah, to earn His love and pleasure, and inevitably His reward of paradise. It is only essential therefore, that we identify the characteristics that Allah loves in order to secure His affection.

Getting closer to Allah step by step.

QualitiesLOVED BY ALLAH Doing Good

Doing good is...well doing good. Whether it’s a kind word or a smile, whatever your definition, the result is always more love in the world.

“And do good; indeed, Allah loves the doers of good.” (Al Baqarah 02:195)

Following the Prophet Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was sent as an example and guide; following him is taking the path to salvation.

“Say, [O Muhammad], "If you should love Allah, then follow me, [so] Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.” (Aal-Imran 03:31)

Those Who Have Taqwa (Piety) Being conscious of Allah at all times, knowing that He sees your every action and hears your every word, inspires one to do good.

“Indeed, Allah loves the Muttaqeen [those who fear Him, and are conscious of Him]. (Tawbah 09:04)

Those Who Put Their Trust in Him Alone Only Allah has full control over everything. Entrusting your affairs to Him implies that one acknowledges His

ultimate power, and thus humbles himself before Him.

“Indeed, Allah loves those who rely [upon Him].” (Aal-Imran 03:159)

Justice Today justice is rarity. It is a noble character to possess and praiseworthy to acquire.

Indeed, Allah loves those who judge in equity. (Al-Maa’idah 05:42)Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly. (Al-Hujurat 49:9)

Those Who Are Patient Patience is a virtue. It is. Patience strengthens one to get through the difficulties of life, to overcome obstacles and to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

“And Allah loves those who are patient.” (Aal Imran 3:146)

3 Being RepentantBeing humans, we forget, and thus repentance is required. The Prophet informed us that Allah is happier with our repentance, than a dying man in the desert that comes upon a life-saving oasis. That’s how much Allah loves our turning back to Him.

“Indeed, Allah loves those who are constantly repentant.” (Al-Baqarah 02:222)

Purity Being pure from errors by repenting and being clean from dirt by washing; Allah loves both. The Prophet taught us, ‘cleanliness is half of faith.’

We heard about this new beach that opened fairly recently in 2015 a while ago. But now after hearing its reviews we couldn’t wait any longer and decided to visit. Someone told us that we could swim so we got our swimming gear along with us.

Despite opening without much fanfare, we found Al Saif Beach crowded. In Jeddah when a new attraction opens, somehow the entire city knows about it within days.

Google Maps has it listed as “Sword Beach,” a literal translation of Al Saif. If one starts asking or searching for Sword Beach they won’t find it anywhere except on Google Maps. All signboards leading

up to the place have it written as Al Saif Beach and Jeddawis know the beach as that as well.Speaking of signboards we came across plenty of them on the way, especially after reaching King Faisal Road. The road is filled with warehouses and factories and we passed hoards of them on our way. An interesting thing I saw here was the solar powered streetlights, something I haven’t seen in any place in the country before. Though they were not the best looking they were definitely the most eco-friendly ones out there.

We followed the signboards and reached South Corniche; a place anglers prefer over Al Saif Beach. From South Corniche we continued to head south following Corniche Road and went round a thermal power plant.

Page 84: DS Issue 7

DESTINATION SHARQIYA JULY 201680

After the power plant it was another 5-minute drive, and there was Al Saif Beach, neatly laid out with palm trees flanking the main road. The total distance of the beach from downtown Jeddah is around 55 kilometers and it took us less than an hour to reach.

Pariking was a hassle, but we eventually found a spot.

The swimming gear wasn’t of much use as the water was only knee-high and the waves were negligible; no wonder it was mostly filled with children. An excellent spot for the young ones to learn swimming, as the sand beneath is

Page 85: DS Issue 7

extremely soft and no stones or algae whatsoever are found at the beach. Plus the beach is surprisingly clean considering the numbers it sees, especially if we consider what happened to Jeddah’s Corniche only days after reopening, where one would find plastics and all sorts of garbage seaside.

What we enjoyed most at the beach was walking in the shallow waters, the soft sand dispersed with every step we took making the seawater look murky. The experience of duskhere deserves a mention on its own; pristine – to put it in one word. A place where you can get a book or drink a fine cup of tea while watching the sun set into the vast seas ahead of you.

Since there isn’t any habitation or makeshift kiosks nearby it’s best to get all your supplies from Jeddah. There are even huts available for families who want that extra bit of privacy; we didn’t find many using them though. A makeshift mosque is available at sight

along with many restrooms that one comes across while walking by the beach. On the whole it is an ideal picnic spot for families, be it barbeques or weekend gatherings.

HISTORIC KSA Ruins that evoke an ineffable charm.By Mohammed Mirza

The First Seaport Of Arabia

The port is built on the ancient village of Uqair, the village that has seen ships sail from its waters and reach Persia, India and parts of China. Some historians believe it to be the oldest seaport in the country.

Sitting 40 kilometers from the city of Hofuf, for centuries Uqair Port was a major trading center for the Al Ahsa region. However, the structure that we see today dates back to the recent late 19th and the early 20th century, built by the Ottomans.

The customs building is the most significant historic structure still standing at Uqair. Once goods were cleared, they would be sold or transported via camels to other parts of Arabia.

Uqair Port played its most prominent role after the establishment of the Saudi state. It is also where King

Abdulaziz signed the famous Uqair Protocol in 1922 with the British.

The port continued to flourish, till about 1945 after which it dropped off the map. A result of the new seaport constructed in Dammam to meet the growing demand for Saudi oil. The seaport at Dammam

was a more feasible option for oil exporters as it was located closer to the oil base.

The seaport is currently closed, with plans to develop it and revive the town of Uqair; making it a tourism hub under the ambitious Uqair Development Project.

LET’S GO WATCH A MOVIE!A handy primer for planning your next movie outing.By Tuba Saricimen

What to WatchNew movies are generally released on Thursdays and there are a couple of websites that give you all the details you’re looking for, including movie genres, trailers, age restrictions, timings and plot synopses.

Web: bahraincinema.com / danacinemabh.wordpress.com

It’s summer time!

Let’s escape the heat for a couple

of hours within the cool comforts

of one of Bahrain’s

cinemas. Here’s a

quick list of tips and

tricks to help you

make the most it.

Page 89: DS Issue 7

85DESTINATIONKSA.COM

Booking in AdvanceThe cinema will definitely be overcrowded on weekends. To make sure you have the seats you want in the movie you want, it’s always better to book your tickets online. Then all you have to do is go to one of the counters at the cinema and pick up your tickets. No fuss, no muss!

Comfortable AttireThe cinema can be a bit chilly, so to be on the safe side, make sure you have a cardigan or shawl with you to cover up in case you get cold.

SnacksSalted or sweet popcorn, nachos and soft-drinks are all standard fare that you can pick up before entering the movie. However, in some cinemas, you may have more options. City Centre has multiple kiosks on the way to the theatre with a medley of snacks ranging from candy bars and corn to frozen yogurt and more. At Saar cinema, you can order a hotdog or crepe and even have them brought to your seat while you’re watching the movie. Bonus points for service!

Bathroom BreaksYou just had to drink that extra-large Coke during trailers, and now you’re stuck halfway through the movie because you don’t want to miss anything. Well, that’s where RunPee comes in. It’s an ingenious app that tells you the best times to sneak in a quick bathroom break without missing the best scenes. It’ll even let you know what you missed anyway. Download it now and never again have to ask, “What did I miss?”
