Hey, everyone! It’s so great to see everyone. I have a question for you. How many of you have a favorite shirt?

• Maybe you’re wearing it today. Maybe you even wore it yesterday and had your mom wash it last night so you could wear it again today. (In loud stage whisper…) Or maybe you pulled it out of the dirty laundry pile to wear today – don’t worry – I won’t tell anyone.

• Anyway, whenever I wear MY favorite shirt, I feel like a million bucks. I make sure I don’t spill anything on it. I hang it in a special place in my closet.

• Maybe you don’t have a favorite shirt. Some of you might have a favorite hat or pair of sneakers. Some of you might like favorite color or type of food. Some of you will listen to your favorite song over and over again. Turn to the person next to you and tell them your most favorite thing ever. Aaaaaaand go. (Kids share responses)

• Now you may be wondering why I’m even bringing this up. Before I get to that, let’s start off our time here in the Way Station with a prayer!

Lead Kids in Prayer • We’re totally fine with picking a favorite hat or shirt, but when a

teacher picks a favorite student in class – and it’s not you – and lets that student get away with things that others can’t, we lose our minds with frustration! Or how about a coach who has a favorite player that always gets more time on the field than anyone else? When things like this happen to us, we say, it’s not what? (Wait for response)

• Exactly. It’s. Not. Fair. When somebody plays favorites, it makes us feel awful. Like we’ve been looked over. We might even feel . . . disrespected.

Drumline_Lesson You don’t have to answer me, but has something like this ever happened to you? Have you ever felt like you were treated unfairly just because? It’s THE WORST, right?! The. Worst. As we jump into the Bible today, keep that unfair feeling in mind. Check this out!

When somebody is shown favoritism over us or someone else, it feels pretty disrespectful, doesn’t it? James used an example where favoritism was based on how a person looked.

• But think about this: if God created everybody and we are all made in God’s image, is there ever a good reason to disrespect others and treat them like they’re less important? (Wait for response)

• Which bring us to our Bottom Line today!

Drumline_Wk 2_Bottom Line_Slide

Say it with me…You respect God when you respect the people God made.

• In James 2:8, he says “If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing right.

• James is not only quoting a law from the Old Testament, but he is quoting Jesus!

• The truth is that you don’t like to feel disrespected – nobody does. We want to be treated fairly. And if that is how we would treat or love ourselves, shouldn’t we do that for others?

• Let’s pray and ask God for some help with this, because this isn’t easy.

Lead Kids in Prayer Dear God, thank You for making all of us and for loving us the same, no matter who we are. We want to respect You and everyone You made, so help us this week to seek out ways we can [Basic Truth] treat everyone the way we want to be treated. We want them to know we see them as important with everything we say and do. We love You and pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.

Drumline_Worship Yes, it is time for us to worship. I am pumped for the chance we get each week to sing praise to our God. C’mon and get ready to sing about how nothing is impossible for our God. Sing loud with me.

Yeah, give it up for our God! He is our everything and He is UNSTOPPABLE! Let’s continue this time of worship through our giving. If anyone has offering, please place it in (Indicate area). Last week we spoke about how important the drum line is to a band. Often times the rhythm starts with them and then the other members of the band follow along. They respect the rhythm set by the drums. And since we’ve been talking about respecting God when we respect others, I thought I’d give you the opportunity to practice respecting the rhythm. What do I mean by that?

• We’ll be split up into 4 groups! • One group will stomp, another will clap, another will say “ch” and

our last group will shout “woo”. • Follow along with the beat on the screen, and when you see the bar

heading towards your team’s rhythm, make sure to make your noise.

• Let’s play “Beats”! Drumline_Beats_Game Video Drumline_Logo_Slide

Drumline_Announcements That was so much fun! Thanks for following the rhythm! Showing respect might just change someone’s life and point him or her to Jesus! We can also point people to Jesus when we show we care. And we can do that through our Family Mission!

Drumline_August Family Mission_Slide

Our August Family Mission is a Back to School Prayer! You and your family will pray for the kids getting ready for school and also the teachers, the principals, and other school workers! Before we leave today, we’re going to pray for your principals!

Drumline_Back to School Bash_Slide Since it’s time to get back to school, let’s enjoy a CF Kids Back to School Bash! Our Back to School Bash is just 2 weeks away, so make sure to invite a friend! You’re not going to want to miss it!

Drumline_5 Teaser_Video Drumline_Logo_Slide

Next week will be the big reveal as to what this 5 is all about!

That’s all the time we have today! During the week, let’s think about all the people we interact with and what respect might look like. Let’s end our time by praying for principals!
