Proper disposal of unneeded orexpired medication can preventprescription drug misuse and accidentalpoisonings. It can also protect theenvironment. Drop off unneededor expired prescription medicationsat a local dat a local drug take-back location.If no medicine take back programsor DEA-authorized take back eventsare available and no specific disposalinstructions were provided, followthese steps to dispose most medicinesin the household trash:

Mix medicines (do not crush) withan unpalatable substance (i.e., dirt,kitty litter, or used coffee grounds)

Place the mixture in a containerwith a lid or sealable plastic bag

Throw the container in yourhousehold trash

Eliminate all personal information onthe medicine bottle and dispose thecontainer

When in doubt about properdisposal, contact your localpharmacist.
