Treatment of LRIT(e.g. bronchitis,
pneumonia, bronchopneumonia, emphysema, lungabscess), skin andsoft tissueinfections. Pre-operativeprophylaxis toreduce chance ofpost-operativesurgical infections
Inhibits bacterial cellwall synthesis,
rendering cell wallosmotically unstable, leading to cell death
Leukopenia, serumsickness,
anaphylaxis,Phlebitis, rash,diarrhea, vomiting.
1. Instruct patient to takemedication as prescribed
for the length of timeordered even if he feelsbetter.2. Teach patient to reportsore throat, bruising, bleeding and joint pain.3. Advise patient to watchout for perineal itching, fever, malaise, redness, pain, swelling, rash, anddiarrhea.4.Assess patients
previous sensitivityreaction to penicillin orother cephalosporin.5. Obtain C&S beforebeginning drug therapy toidentify if correct treatmenthas been initiated.

Generic Name:
Albuterol Sulfate
Brand Name:Salbutamol
1 neb, inhalation,q 6 hrs
Sympathomimetic
drug
Beta2-selectiveadrenergic agonist
Bronchodilator
Antiasthmatic
Relief and
prevention ofbronchospasm inpatients withreversibleobstructiveairway disease
Inhalation:Treatment of acuteattacks ofbronchospasm
Prevention ofexercise-inducedbronchospasm
In low doses, acts
relatively selectively atbeta2-adrenergicreceptors to causebronchodilation andvasodilation; at higherdoses, beta2selectivity is lost, andthe drugacts at beta2 receptorsto cause typicalsympathomimeticcardiac effects
Restlessness,
apprehension,anxiety, fear, cardiacarrhythmias,tachycardia,palpitations,sweating, pallor,flushing, nausea,vomiting, heartburn,respiratorydifficulties,pulmonary edema
1. Use minimal doses for
minimal periods; drugtolerance can occur withprolonged use.2. Maintain a beta-adrenergic blocker(cardioselective beta-blocker, such as atenolol, should be used withrespiratory distress) onstandby in case cardiacarrhythmias occur.3. Prepare solution for
inhalation by diluting 0.5mL 0.5% solution with 2.5mL normal saline; deliverover 515 min bynebulization.4. Do not exceedrecommended dosage.5. Report chest pain, dizziness, insomnia, weakness, tremors orirregular heartbeat.
Contraindicated
withhypersensitivity toalbuterol;tachyarrhythmiastachycardiacaused by digitalisintoxication;general anestheswith halogenatedhydrocarbons orcyclopropane(these sensitize
the myocardium tocatecholamines);unstablevasomotor systemdisorders;hypertension;coronaryinsufficiency, CADhistory of stroke;COPD patientswith degenerativeheart disease.
