3. Discontinue medication seven days before elective surgery if antiplatelet effect is not desirable.

Produced vasodilation (venous greater than arterial). And relaxes vascular smooth muscle of arterial, venous vasculature. Decreases pre load, afterload.

Anti-angina It was given to treat for acute angina attacks

The patient mild chest pain decreased slightly.

Nursing Responsibilities

1. Assist patient with ambulation if light-headiness, dizziness occurs.2. Asses for facial/neck flushing3. Monitor number of angina episodes4. Monitor orthostatic blood pressure.5. Monitor effectiveness of drug in relieving angina.6. Note: Headaches tend to decrease in intensity and frequency with continued therapy but may require

administration of analgesic and reduction in dosage.7. Note: Chronic administration of large doses may produce tolerance and thus decrease effectiveness of nitrate

preparations.

Advise patient to avoid tasks that require alertness, motor skills (possible dizziness effect).5. Report any signs of infection, chest pain.6. Inform physician if dizziness, or lightheadedness, swelling of the lips occurs or tongue or difficulty of

breathing occurs.
