As per police sources, on specific information, police team from Pacca Danga police station conducted a raid in Patel Bazar area and nabbed a drug peddler. On his disclosure, police recovered 472 intoxicant injec- tions and 350 tablets from the area, where he kept the consignment. The accused has been identi- fied as Deepak alias Deepu, son of Raman Kumar, a resident of Patel Bazaar. He is a drug addict and also use to sell the narcotics among the masses especially youths to make them drug addict. With the arrest of the accused, police achieved a major success. A case under Narcotic drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against the accused at Pacca Danga police station and investi- gation started. Manohar flays Govt for slow response on Pak- shelling Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 26: Former Minister and PCC general secre- tary, Dr Manohar Lal Sharma has criticized the State Government and Administration for its `slow response ' in reaching out to the affected peo- ple after unprovoked firing by Pakistani troops on the villages closer to the international bor- der in Samba and Kathua areas. In a press statement issued here today the former MoS, who also paid visit to certain affected areas today, said that due to the Pakistani shelling, massive damage has been caused to the property of the vil- lagers on this side. While appreciating the courage of the border villagers, the PCC leader assured all pos- sible help to the affected people from Congress party. He also said that Congress would take up the matter at higher level in the administration for taking more effective and immediate measures at the earliest. Dr Sharma strongly demand- ed to shift the people from the affected areas immediately in order to prevent the further loss of life, proper arrangement of their food, transportation and grant of adequate compensation to the affected families for the loss of property and live stock perished in shelling. He alleged that the slackness on the part of Government and local adminis- tration has caused much damage to the people residing in border areas. The Congress leader expressed deep anguish over the attitude of administration and criticized the attitude of the BJP leadership at the Centre and Coalition regime in the State for not shifting people to the safer places in time and provide them proper shelter, food and medi- cines. Azad asks Govt to reach out in quake-hit areas Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 26: Former J&K Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad has urged upon the Central and State Governments to gear up the administrative machinery for reaching out to the panic-struck people in the earth-quake affect- ed areas. In a press statement issued here today, Mr Azad expressed concern and anxiety over the massive earthquake that struck large parts of Northern India including J&K State this after- noon.. MCA Deptt of Bhaderwah Campus organizes Tech Quiz Excelsior Correspondent BHADERWAH, Oct 26: MCA Department of Bhaderwah Campus, University of Jammu organized Tech Quiz competi- tion "Sanganana-2k15" for the students of MCA I, III & V Semesters. 35 students of the depart- ment participated in the compe- tition. The tech quiz was conducted in two stages. The stage I was the elimination round in which a Written Quiz of 30 questions in 30 minutes were asked and con- ducted at the morning session. The performance was evaluated on the number of correct answers. The more challenging stage II was conducted at the evening session in which only top 15 stu- dents were selected in five groups to determine the top team. The quiz covered ques- tions on current trends in IT, Programming languages, Databases, Operating systems and the topics related to IT. Majid Anjum, Harpreet Kour and Arjun Singh were the quiz masters. There was a tie between two teams. Ritav Proach, Abrar Ahmed and Deepali Kotwal secured second position and Tanniya Jamwal, Mohd. Sarfraz and Upma Sharma also secured the second position. Prof. G. M. Bhat, Rector of the Campus inspired the stu- dents and suggested them to take part in co-curricular activi- ties in addition to their academ- ics. Six test positive for Dengue Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 26: With six more people today testing positive for Dengue virus the total number of patients affected with this vec- tor-borne disease in Jammu region has reached to 108. According Dr BS Pathania, Director, Health Services Jammu, a total of 72 tests were conducted today for Dengue out of which six turned out to be positive. He said that all the six infected persons are adults (5 males and 1 female). Giving more details, Dr Pathania, said that out of six Dengue infected persons three belong to Jammu district, two to Kathua and one belongs to Udhampur district. He further disclosed that till today the department conducted 652 tests for Dengue out of which 108 were found to be pos- itive for Dengue virus. Dr Pathania advised the peo- ple not to store water in open utensils and allow stagnation of water in their surroundings, as stagnant water is a breeding ground for Dengue mosquitoes. He also advised the people to prevent themselves from mos- quito bites. Power shut down Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 26: To carry out the works of PCC pole erec- tion and installation of HT/LT cable laying as requested by M/s IRCON International Ltd. under RAPDRP project, the shutdown of D-5, WZ-1, D-4, J-15, Sidhra-2, C-18, C-22 and DG-2 feeders has been allowed from October 27 to November 10 (excluding holiday) from 9 am to 12 noon and 2 pm to 5 pm. During the shutdown period, the power supply to Peerkho, Paccki Dhaki, Jullaka Mohalla, Hari Mahal, Lower Gujjar Nagar, DC Office, Ambphalla, Karan Nagar, Tawi Vihar, Krishana Nagar, Science College, Lane No. 1, 2, 4, 10, Canal Road area, Gujjar Nagar, Lower Gummat and Danis Gate will remain affected. Workshop for mobile school teachers begins Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 26: The sec- ond phase of the workshop on "Popularization of Science activities under ST Plan (Project), Govt. of India" for the teachers of mobile schools of J&K began today at Government Women College, Parade, Jammu. The inaugural function was presided over by Prof Renu Goswami, Principal GCW Parade Jammu whereas H R Pakhroo, Joint Director Training/Principal State Institute of Education and Zafferullah Khan, Founder Secretary NCURDS, were the guests of honour. The workshop is the joint venture of Vigyan Prasar, Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, Noida and National Council for Urban and Rural Development Society (NCURDS), Jammu. The main purpose of the programme is to foster scientific temperament among the teachers with main stress on "Learning by Doing" in discharging effective teaching learning process that ultimately will benefit student communi- ties. About 50 participants from different districts of Jammu province (Jammu, Kathua, Samba & Ramban) are partici- pating in this four-day work- shop. Drug peddler held with intoxicant injections, tablets Elderly pilgrim dies after fall from pony Excelsior Correspondent KATRA, Oct 26: An elderly female pilgrim from Delhi, died here today after she fell while riding a pony near Hathi Matha. She sustained a serious head injury and was rushed to the Sagarsuri dispensary at Sanjhichat where doctors declared her as brought dead. The deceased was identified as Anguri Devi (80), wife of Lt Phool Chand of Pachim Vihar, Delhi. On the pilgrimage, she was accompanied by her son Roop Ram. Meanwhile, Police Station Bhawan returned three unclaimed bags, containing mobile phones, cash and some documents, to their owner, who had lost the same at Bhawan area. Girl killed after hit by bike Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 26: A minor girl was killed today after being hit by a speeding bike at Bathindi area of city outskirts. According to a police spokesperson, the girl identified as Asia Bukhari (6) daughter of Rashid Ali Shah, a resident of Government Quarter No 26 at Gulshan Ground, Jammu, was on her way back to her maternal uncle's home along with her mother when a rashly drive bike registration No- JK02AQ-3208 hit and left her seriously injured near Mecca Masjid, Bathindi, this evening. The blood ridden girl was immediately rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, where she was declared as brought dead by the doctors. The body of the deceased girl was shifted to mortuary room of the hospi- tal, where post mortem will be conducted tomorrow. A case in this connection has been registered at concerned police station and further inves- tigations are underway. Army jawan killed in road mishap Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 26: An army jawan was killed after the motor bike bearing number JK0AE- 7117 on which he was traveling was hit by a car bearing num- ber UK 14 A 543 while he was crossing the Highway near Dayala Chak to Rajpora this evening. He has been identified as Sham Lal, 28, S/o Dila Ram of Rajpora in Kathua district. He fell down in a pool of blood, police said. He was rushed to Hiranagar District Hospital by the people where doctors declared him as brought dead. The three car borne youth fled from the spot in a private bus leaving the car behind. Hiranagar Police has registered a case under relevant Sections of the Law and seized the car said Investigating Officer Gangu Ram. He said the dead body has been kept in D H Hiranagar and it will be handed over to family tomorrow after post- mortem and completion of other formalities. Boy missing Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 26: A 15-year old boy, namely Ali Mohd, son of Jamat Ali of Bandhi Dwara, Bahu Fort Jammu, has been missing since yesterday. He was last seen yesterday morning around 8.30 a.m near Mohmaya Mandir Link Road. At that time, he was wearing a black jacket and blue jean pent. The family members have lodged a report in this regard at Police Station Bahu Fort. JWAM holds anti-Pak protest Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Oct 26: The activists of Jammu West Assembly Movement (JWAM) burnt Pakistan flag and held protest for the violation of the ceasefire by Pakistan resulting in to injuries to scores of people. Addressing the protesters, JWAM president Sunil Dimple warned Pakistan for ceasefire violation and urged the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to give befitting reply to Pakistan for shelling of mortars on the resi- dential areas and the violations of ceasefire on the LoC. He extended full support to the border migrants and demanded immediate allotment of the land on the safer places to border migrants and accelerate the pace of the construction of the bunkers for the villagers along the LoC. Man’s body recovered from Kalidhar forest Excelsior Correspondent AKHNOOR, Oct 26: The dead body of a middle-aged man was recovered from forest area of Chowki Chora, in Kalidhar Ranges of district Jammu today. A police spokesman said that a nomad informed police at Chowki Chora in the morning that dead body of a male was lying in the jungle near Turgala Devsthan. The police party led by SI Kuldeep Khajuria, in-charge Police Post, Chowki Chora reached the spot. The police found that a dog was also roam- ing around the body and some portion of the face had been eaten by the animals. The deceased was clad in black Jeans pants and blue T-shirt. The police shifted the body to the mortuary of GMC Hospital, Jammu and started investigation. He appeared to be in the age group of 32-35 years. Six test positive for Dengue Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Oct 26: With sixmore people today testing positivefor Dengue virus the total numberof patients affected with this vec-tor-borne disease in Jammuregion has reached to 108.

According Dr BS Pathania,Director, Health ServicesJammu, a total of 72 tests wereconducted today for Dengue outof which six turned out to bepositive. He said that all the sixinfected persons are adults (5males and 1 female).

Giving more details, DrPathania, said that out of six

Dengue infected persons threebelong to Jammu district, two toKathua and one belongs toUdhampur district.

He further disclosed that tilltoday the department conducted652 tests for Dengue out ofwhich 108 were found to be pos-itive for Dengue virus.

Dr Pathania advised the peo-ple not to store water in openutensils and allow stagnation ofwater in their surroundings, asstagnant water is a breedingground for Dengue mosquitoes.He also advised the people toprevent themselves from mos-quito bites. Power shut down

JAMMU, Oct 26: The sec-ond phase of the workshop on"Popularization of Scienceactivities under ST Plan(Project), Govt. of India" for theteachers of mobile schools ofJ&K began today atGovernment Women College,Parade, Jammu.

The inaugural function waspresided over by Prof RenuGoswami, Principal GCWParade Jammu whereas H RPakhroo, Joint DirectorTraining/Principal State Instituteof Education and ZafferullahKhan, Founder SecretaryNCURDS, were the guests ofhonour.

The workshop is the jointventure of Vigyan Prasar,Department of Science &Technology, Government of

India, Noida and NationalCouncil for Urban and RuralDevelopment Society(NCURDS), Jammu. The mainpurpose of the programme is tofoster scientific temperamentamong the teachers with mainstress on "Learning by Doing" indischarging effective teachinglearning process that ultimatelywill benefit student communi-ties.

About 50 participants fromdifferent districts of Jammuprovince (Jammu, Kathua,Samba & Ramban) are partici-pating in this four-day work-shop.

Girl killed afterhit by bike

JAMMU, Oct 26: A minorgirl was killed today after beinghit by a speeding bike atBathindi area of city outskirts.

According to a policespokesperson, the girl identifiedas Asia Bukhari (6) daughter ofRashid Ali Shah, a resident ofGovernment Quarter No 26 atGulshan Ground, Jammu, wason her way back to her maternaluncle's home along with hermother when a rashly drive bikeregistration No- JK02AQ-3208hit and left her seriously injurednear Mecca Masjid, Bathindi,this evening.

The blood ridden girl wasimmediately rushed toGovernment Medical Collegeand Hospital, Jammu, whereshe was declared as broughtdead by the doctors. The bodyof the deceased girl was shiftedto mortuary room of the hospi-tal, where post mortem will beconducted tomorrow.

A case in this connection hasbeen registered at concernedpolice station and further inves-tigations are underway.

Man’s body recovered from Kalidhar forest

A police spokesman said thata nomad informed police atChowki Chora in the morningthat dead body of a male waslying in the jungle near TurgalaDevsthan. tion of Kashmiri Pandits repre-senting various organizationsled by M K Yogi submitted amemorandum to Relief andRehabilitation Commissioner, RK Pandita and demanded imme-diate revocation of orderregarding issuance of rationcoupons on monthly basis.

The delegation also submitted amemrandum to ReliefCommissioner and sought immedi-ate cancellation of the order in thisregard as it has led a lot of resent-ment among the relief holders.

The delegation warned thatthe displaced people will cometo streets in case the order wasnot revoked by the Government.

The delegation alsodemanded bifurcation of rationcards, inclusion of left overmembers in the ration cards,issuance of RBA certificatesand other related problems ofdisplaced people.
