Several thousand people die each year worldwide from heat stress.

Most deaths in North America occur in inner cities in the southeastern US.

Severe urban pollution may be a contributing factor.

Yes No

Drought affects our lives in many different ways because water is such an important part of so many of our activities. We need water to live , and animals , and plants do too.

Page 9: Drought

Redused the rainfall result in drought Occures because water vapour not brought by air currents to right areas

at right times. Unusual currents of cold and warm water in oceans creates high pressure

. EI Nino causes drought inAsia. Mountain prevent wind from moisture to needy region.

UNDERSTANDING DROUGHT

Page 13: Drought

DROUGHT

Droughtis an environmental extreme that is

characterized by an absence of precipitation in

the local and regional water cycle as a consequence of

interactions of elements of the atmosphere, hydrosphere, and

lithosphere.

Read to the newsINDIAN EXPRESS 2010-2011Thiruvananthapuram: The china drought was a drought the began in late 2010 and impacted eight provinces in the northern part of the People’s Republic of China (PRC). From the above news it is clear that drought

affected the living beings and as well

DROUGHT HAZARDS (AKA Potential disaster Agents)

Page 23: Drought

• Drought is linked to loss of water quantity and quality, which can lead to major loss of life (people and livestock), loss of livelihoods, loss of habitats, and sometimes famine.

DROUGHT LINKAGES AND RISKS

Page 24: Drought

Between 108 BC and 1911 AD, 1,828 famines of varying severity occurred in China (i.e., one nearly every year in at least one province
