Thomas Bubendorfer Solo Mountain Climber

Solo mountain climbers are the most elite group of athletes. Thomas Bubendorfer joined the elite inner circle of solo climbers already as a teenager. He gained world climbing fame at 21 years of age with his record solo climb of the Eiger north face, the highest and hardest mountain face in the Alps. To succeed - and to survive at „free solo climbing“ - requires physical and above all mental conditioning at the highest level, as well as detailed planning and preparation and the ability to take calculated risks. Today, at 47, with more than 90 first solo and record ascents in the mountains of the world Thomas is still at the cutting edge of extreme climbing with four first ascents in the winter of 2010.

Climbing has taught him that he must not cease to fight any kind of stand-still, physically and mentally, and move on. Permanent change lies at the core of his success. He keeps emphasizing self-responsibility and never complains, even under the most dire circumstances; focus on what is presently possible is the only way for him. Man is always potential, he can always do something, he is convinced. On safety, a major issue in his dangerous doing, he says that he is only „safe“ if and when he ventures into the unknown, for it is the awareness of danger that sharpens his senses. Learning and maximizing one‘s individual potential stands at the center of his thinking.

He has shared his extensive experience and insights since 1984 with the largest companies world-wide and has given more than 900 key-note speeches.

Thomas has written six books. He speaks and presents in four languages (English, native German, French and Italian). He is a father of three and has been living in the Principality of Monaco since 1985.
