1 THORSTEN TRUI JENSAs a lecturer for the Institute of Management in the areas of controlling and finance at the University of St.Gallen and as a managing partner at the consultancy firm Controlling Partner St.Gallen AG, Dr. Thorsten Truijens combines the worlds of business and academia. The expert in the field of value-oriented management advises a number of renowned national and multinational companies. He is a winner of the coveted Best Teacher Award of the Full-Time MBA program at the Univer- sity of St.Gallen and of the Omnium Global Exec- utive MBA program of the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. As a trainer in the in-class module, he also composed the innovative e-learning course on financial management.

2 T. FLEMMING RUUDAfter professorships at the leading Norwegian business schools, Professor T. Flemming Ruud joined the University of St.Gallen in 1995. At the Institute of Accounting, Controlling and Auditing, he conducts research on internal control, internal and external audit, the financial aspects of corporate governance, and risk management. He holds a number of directorships in Switzerland and Norway, and advises European associations, auditing companies, governments, and companies in the areas of corporate governance and on financial and operational auditing. He prepared the e-learning course in accounting used in this compact seminar.
