A KUDU recently died after it ate several plastic bags that people littered around in the open fi eld.

The kudu from Swadini Holiday Resort was found to have consumed more than fi ve kilogram of plastic probably mistaken the plastic to be food.

Brian Jones of Moholoholo wildlife rehabilitation centre said that animals are often attracted to eat plastic as most of these plastic still smells food that was eaten by careless people who litter their rubbish everywhere.

‘The stomach was full of plastic and the Kudu was unable to eat proper food as the intestines and the stomach was already fi lled with plastic,’ said Jones.

Jones said that this incident is not the fi rst to happen as birds and other animals also fall victims to environmental littering.

He said that once the animals eat plastic it’s hard for them to digest them and the plastic kills them as they can’t eat anything else.

People must stop littering to save our environment and animal conservation, recycle if you fail put it in the rubbish bin.

Leopard to be euthanizedMOHOLOHOLO wildlife rehabilitation centre will soon euthanize a leopard that was brought into the centre with multiple injuries.

According to Brian Jones of Moholoholo Rehab the leopard was brought in with a wire still attached to its neck after poacher snare the leopard in farm in Dullstroom. ‘The leopard was found caught in a snare and it was also shot on the left front shoulder,’ said Jones. The animal was brought in by Mpumalanga Parks Board last week. It is still alive but because of the injuries to the front leg, the team at Moholoholo will have no choice but to

put it down. Jones said that the female leopard looks like it had not eaten for at least two-and-a-half week as it only weighed 17kg. It is supposed to weigh 30 to 35 kg. He said that animals are falling victims every now and then to cruel people who only think about themselves.

An -vuurwerke van Hoedspruit skryf:Facebook het behoorlik gegons die betrokke Donderdagaand toe daar so klappers geskiet is by die Skougronde in Tzaneen. Ek was daar vir ‘n sakebesoek.

Wat sê my mede Hoedspruiters?
