The first step of the wizardis to let DriveWorksXpressknow which parts and sub-

assemblies requireautomating

In this example we are

going to specify thenew height & width ofthe gantry and see howother associatedparameters aremodified automaticallyas a result

Capture

The second step is to capturethe parameters of each model

that change1. Highlight any part or sub-assembly that

contains the parameters to be captured

Parameters can be sketchor feature dimensions,

Capture - Top Half of Leg

1. From the feature manager, select the feature that

contains the dimension to be captured (This model isextruded up to a plane so we will capture the planenamed Bottom).

5. Select the next model from the tree in theDriveWorksXpress window that requires parameterscapturing.

4. Give this dimension a more meaningful name andclick Add.

3. The Sol idWorks name appears in theDriveWorksXpress window.

2. Select the dimension that appears on the model.

Custom Properties

Custom Properties canbe used to report data

into the model

These in turn can be reportedinto a SolidWorks drawing and

used to populate drawingborder title blocks, notes and

other important drawinginformation automatically

The Properties tab in the DriveWorksXpresswizard automatically reports any customproperties that currently exist in the model

Additional custom properties can be added

Unwanted custom properties can be deleted

Rules

All remaining unspecified rules are constructed either by usingthe available icons or, if familiar with Microsoft Excel, typing direct

into the Build Up box

Each rule will reference Variables from the Inputs or Outputs orhave constant data attributed to them

1. The Length dimension of the top ha l f o fleg is calculated from the Height toUnderside of Beam Input – a constantvalue of 300mm

2. The Length dimension of the Beam canbe the Width between Legs Input +920mm or Width between Legs Input +160mm dependant on The OutsideOutrigger check box being selected

3. The Length dimension of the base oflower leg is dependant on the Height toUnderside of Beam Input. Less than2700 = 1550 , Less than 3800 = 1775 orOver 3800 = 2000 . This is formulated bynesting a series of IF statementstogether

4. The Left and Right hand uprightdistance dimension of the BeamAssembly are dependant on theOutside Outrigger Input being selected. If “Yes” = 460 otherwise = 80

5. The Drawing Number Custom Propertyis constructed by joining the OrderNumber Input with the text string“/GA/01”

6. The Description Custom Property willreport the Safe Working Load Input

7. The Title Custom Property will be a textstring produced from a constant valueof “Gantry” joined with the Widthbetween Legs Input and the Height tounderside of Beam Input. Where werequire a standard text string of “Wide” and “Height” included after therespective size this is selected from thedrop down box as shown.
