PRODUCTS AND SERVICES | IFA offers a portfolio of drive shafts with universal and constant velocity joints for the application in passenger cars and light commer­cial vehicles and in the off­road and industrial sectors.

I IFA engineers work in advanced engineering, process engineering, application engineering, sample making

and testing in Germany, Poland, the USA and China, in close proximity to the customer.

I IFA gathers customer requirements, then designs and simulates the specified drive shafts. After acceptance

of the digital concept by the customer, samples are manufactured and tested under load. IFA checks the installation and function of the shaft in the vehicle upon request of the customer. After industrialization and initial sample acceptance by the customer, the shaft enters series production.

I IFA shafts represent the state of the art in terms of performance, durability, weight, corrosion resilience,

noise, vibration and telescoping capability in the event of a crash.

IFA POWERTRAIN | The IFA Group develops high­quality prop shafts, half shafts, universal joints and constant velocity joints for vehicles with combustion, hybrid or electric engines.

I IFA provides solutions to customers in a variety of markets with a fine­tuned product portfolio. IFA customers include

the American and European mass producers and the Italian and German sports car manufacturers.

I Prop shafts transmit the torque generated by the engine from the transmission to the axle differentials in the vehicle. Depend­

ing on customer requirements, IFA shafts can contain up to three tubes, with up to four joints, and up to three center bearings. About 250 IFA engineers in engineering and in the plants work in close cooperation with the experts of the customers to find suitable solutions. IFA produces drive shafts in Haldens leben, Ujazd (Poland), Charleston (USA) and Shanghai (China).

I Half shafts transmit the torque from the transmission or the differential to the wheels. The motion of the vehicle components

and the steering movements of the wheels must be compensated by the half shafts. They therefore consist of a rigid shaft with a constant velocity joint at each end. IFA manufactures half shafts in Ujazd, Poland for rear­wheel drive and all­wheel drive premium vehicles. IFA is entering the fast­growing market for battery­pow­ered electric vehicles.

I Universal and constant velocity joints allow bending the shafts while maintaining torque transmission. Universal joints use

interlocking yokes which are joint cardanically. Constant velocity joints use the motion of balls in ball tracks for this function. Joints are crucial for the quietness of the vehicle. They significantly influence weight and envelope volume of the shafts. In case of a collision, they support the telescoping of the shaft and thus

protect human life. IFA has developed design sets for universal and constant­velocity joints, which cover all requirements for performance and durability. IFA joints are maintenance­free and corrosion­resilient.

I Längswellen übertragen im Fahrzeug das vom Motor erzeugte Drehmoment vom Getriebe zu den Achsdifferenzialen. Je nach

Kundenwunsch enthalten IFA Längswellen bis zu drei Rohre mit bis zu vier Gelenken und bis zu drei Zwischenlager. Rund 250 Ingenieure der IFA in Forschung und Entwicklung sowie in den Werken gestalten in enger Abstimmung mit den Experten der Kunden eine passende Lösung. IFA fertigt Längswellen in Haldens­leben, Ujazd (Polen), Charleston (USA) und Shanghai (China).

I Seitenwellen übertragen das Drehmoment vom Getriebe oder vom Differenzial auf die Räder. Das Einfedern des Fahrzeugs

und die Lenkbewegungen der Vorderräder müssen von den Seitenwellen ausgeglichen werden. Sie bestehen daher aus einer steifen Welle mit zwei Gleichlaufgelenken. IFA fertigt Seiten­wellen in Ujazd, Polen, zunächst für heck­ und allradgetriebene Premiumfahrzeuge. Gleichzeitig sichert sich IFA mit der Seiten­wellenproduktion den Zugang zum rasch wachsenden Markt für batteriegetriebene Elektrofahrzeuge.

I Kreuz­ und Gleichlaufgelenke erlauben die Beugung der Wellen bei Aufrechterhaltung der Drehmomentübertragung. Kreuzge­

lenke nutzen ineinandergreifende Gabeln, die kardanisch mitei­nander verbunden sind. Gleichlaufgelenke nutzen die Bewegung von Kugeln in Kugelbahnen für diese Funktion. Gelenke sind entscheidend für die Laufruhe des Fahrzeugs. Sie beeinflussen Gewicht und Hüllvolumen der Wellen maßgeblich. Im Falle einer Kollision unterstützen sie die Teleskopierung der Wellen und schützen somit Menschenleben. IFA hat Baukästen für Kreuz­ und Gleichlaufgelenke entwickelt, die alle Anforderungen an Leistung und Betriebshaltbarkeit abdecken. IFA Gelenke sind wartungsfrei und korrosionsresistent.

IFA KARDAN | The drive shafts manufactured by IFA for agricultural machinery, construction machineryand for stationary capital equipment have set standards since 1959.

I IFA Kardan products are used worldwide in primary and auxiliary drive systems in wheel loaders, wheel

excavators, tractors, harvesting machines or forage harvesters. In stationary capital equipment (wood processors, transport systems, test benches, packaging machinery, paper processing machinery), shafts with nominal torques of up to 30,000 Newton meters are used. The engineers of IFA Kardan configure and test drive shafts from a predefined design set according to customer specifications.

IFA KARDAN | Die von IFA hergestellten Antriebswellen für Land­ und Baumaschinen sowie für Maschinen­ und Anlagenbau setzen seit 1959 Maßstäbe.

I HHeute werden die Produkte der IFA Kardan weltweit in Haupt­ oder Nebenantriebe in Radladern, Rad­

baggern, Traktoren, Erntemaschinen oder Häckslern eingesetzt. Im Maschinen­ und Anlagenbau, in Holz­bearbeitungsmaschinen, Transportsystemen, Prüfstän­den, Verpackungs­ oder Papierherstellmaschinen wer­den Wellen mit Nenndrehmomenten von bis zu 30.000 Newtonmetern eingesetzt. Die Entwickler der IFA Kardan konfigurieren und erproben Antriebswellen aus einem vordefinierten Baukasten nach Spezifi kationen der Kunden.

IFA takes over the prop shaft division Rotorion of the Daimler subsidiary Tognum AG and relocates the production facilities from Friedrichshafen to Haldensleben. The plant in Charleston, South Carolina (USA), is integrated in the com­pany. IFA übernimmt die Längswellensparte Rotorion der Daimler­Tochter Tognum AG und verlagert die Produktions­anlagen von Friedrichshafen nach Haldensleben. Das Werk in Charleston, South Carolina (USA), wird in das Unternehmen integriert.

The plant in Ujazd (Poland) opens. IFA opens a new engineering office in Stuttgart in order to provide more effective support to customers in Southern Germany. Das Werk in Ujazd (Polen) wird eröffnet. In Stuttgart eröffnet IFA ein neues Entwicklungs­büro, um die süddeutschen Kunden wirksamer zu unterstützen.

IFA opens a new plant in Shanghai (China). With locations in Germany, Poland, the USA and China, IFA is now a global automo­tive supplier. IFA receives the “Factory of the Year” award from the trade magazine “Produktion” in cooperation with AT Kearney. IFA eröffnet ein neues Werk in Shanghai (China). Mit Standorten in Europa, den USA und Asien ist IFA nun ein globaler Automobil­zulieferer. IFA erhält die Auszeichnung „Fabrik des Jahres“ der Fachzeitschrift „Produktion“ in Zusammenarbeit mit AT Kearney.

1800 1959 1992

Johann Gottlob Nathusius (1760 – 1835) is one of the first to recognize the sign of the times and creates an industrial asso­ciation in the Magdeburg region with about 30 companies and about 3,000 employees. Tobacco factories, industrial sugar refineries, brick factories, ceramic factories, as well as the first private porcelain factory in Prussia are a part of it. Johann Gottlob Nathusius (1760 – 1835) erkennt als einer der ersten die Zeichen der Zeit und erschafft in der Region Magdeburg einen Industrieverbund mit rund 30 Unternehmen und etwa 3.000 Mitarbeitern. Tabakfabriken, industrielle Zu­ckerraffinerien, Ziegeleien, Steingutfabriken gehören ebenso dazu wie die erste private Porzellanmanufaktur Preußens.

On June 15th 1992, Heinrich von Nathusius acquires IFA GmbH. With 100 employ­ees, IFA’s conversion to a world­market­oriented company began. Am 15. Juni erwirbt Heinrich von Nathusius die IFA GmbH. Mit zunächst 100 verbliebenen Mitarbeit­ern beginnt der Umbau der IFA in ein weltmarktfähiges Unternehmen.

The East German government­owned automotive cluster “IFA­Gelenkwelle” was founded in 1959 as a merger of three nationalized machine building companies. IFA manufactured shafts for agricultural and commercial vehicle in the GDR. Das volkseigene Industriekombinat für Fahrzeugbau „IFA­ Gelenkwelle“ geht im Jahr 1959 aus der Zusammenlegung von drei verstaatlichten Maschinenbaubetrieben hervor. Als Zulieferer betrieb fertigt IFA Gelenkwellen für den Land­maschinen­ und Nutzfahrzeugbau der DDR.
