As we begin 2013 and enter into a new General Assembly, its important that we

focus on the problems that are affecting our state and our community. Ohio House

Democrats are reaffirming our dedication to the citizens of Ohio in the 130th Gen-eral Assembly.

Key issues will be deliberated over the next two years, one of which will be our

states budget and the future of this great state. Perhaps no piece of legislation ismore significant to the operation of state government than the biennial budget bill.

The new budget must be adopted before spending authority under the old budget

expires. The operating budget provides funding for most state agencies, and it mustbe passed before June 30th. Governor Kasich is legally required to submit a budgetproposal to the legislature no later than four weeks after the beginning of the new

General Assembly. The budget process is helped along by various committees in the

House of Representatives. Typically, almost all items contained in the proposed bi-ennial budget will be heard by the Finance and Appropriations Committee. Needless

to say, we will have a lot of work before us in the upcoming months.

Committees play a dynamic role in the democratic process by allowing various par-ticipants to give testimony on a certain bill that may be of interest to them. As your

representative, I encourage you to attend these public hearings and possibly testify

on some of the issues we will see in this General Assembly.

The House of Representatives has numerous standing committees. In the 130thGeneral Assembly, we have seen an introduction of some committees that we didnt

have previously. The committees on Manufacturing & Workforce Development and

Policy & Legislative Oversight will be new to members this year. There has also beena consolidation of past committees that formerly oversaw legal and judiciary issues. The current committee lineup for the 130th General Assembly is as follows:

Agriculture and Natural Resources Commerce, Labor and Technology EconomicDevelopment and Regulatory Reform Education Finance and Appropriations

Financial Institutions, Housing and Urban Development Health and Aging Insur-

ance Judiciary Manufacturing and Workforce Development Military and Veter-ans Affairs Policy and Legislative Oversight Public Utilities Rules and Refer-

ence State and Local Government Transportation, Public Safety and HomelandSecurity Ways and Means

I am excited for this new General Assembly and the opportunity to serve you on the

Economic Development and Regulatory Reform committee, Education committee,

Finance and Appropriations committee, and the subcommittee on Agriculture andDevelopment. Please do not hesitate to contact the office with any questions, com-ments, or suggestions you may have. I am here to listen to your concerns and ideas

for improving our great state of Ohio.

    Sincerely,

    Dear Constituents,
