Paper:

• Inexpensive sketch pad 8x10” or larger for quick sketches

• Good quality drawing pad with acid free paper, 8x10” or larger

• (May use hot press (smooth) watercolor paper if desired)

Pencils:

• # 2 or HB to begin with. If serious about drawing, you may want to purchase a fuller range from 4B, 3B, 2B, B, HB, F, H, 2H, 3H, 4H. High number B’s are the soft-est and darkest; high number H’s are the hardest and lightest.

• Ruler: 12-18” (if interested in perspective)• Pencil sharpener or matt knife (small piece

of 150 sandpaper, optional)• ( I use a matt knife and sandpaper)• Kneaded eraser • Drawing board (light weight plywood

works well)• Masking tape.• (Class may later use pen and ink (micron

pens are nice), watercolor, or other draw-ing media.)

Watercolor Supplies

• Every artist has his or her own preferenc-es in setting up a pallet. The colors listed below are what I use.

• Artist grade tubes:• Cobalt blue • Alizarin crimson • Cadmium red medium (or substitute Rose

madder genuine)

• Cadmium red light (or substitute with a light red-orange)

• Cadmium orange (or substitute ) • Cadmium or lemon yellow• Yellow ochre• Viridian green• Dioxazine purple (or substitute)• Chinese white (optional) In watercolor, the

white of the paper is the white you use. • Large plastic pallet for paints, 10x12” is

good (need many wells and large area for mixing colors)

• Brushes (natural hair or synthetic):• Small (#2-4), medium (#6-8) and large

(#10-12) watercolor brushes (rounds with a good point)

• 1 large flat mop brush for washes (approx 1/2-3/4”) (0. You may desire an ultra small round for fine work, 0 to 000 or smaller)

• Sketch pad 8x10” or larger (inexpensive paper)

• Pencil for sketching (#2 or HB, B, or 2B) • Kneaded eraser• Tracing paper tablet (for transfer tech-

nique, from sketch to watercolor paper.• I will supply isopropyl alcohol for transfer.)• Watercolor paper (heavier paper is best,

140-300 lb)--individual sheets or water-color tablet. Arches, cold pressed, 140-lb, or Fabriano Uno, soft pressed, 140-lb are best for reworking.

• Heavy cardboard or light weight plywood for mounting paper

• Masking tape• Glass jar for water, not too tall • Absorbent paper towels • Liquid frisket or masking fluid (optional) for

protecting areas from paint
