• Do Now: on the index card, write down one thing you may be nervous or excited about in Drawing and Painting. Do not write your name on the card.

Homework: Return signed course expectations, parent contact forms, technology release forms.

• Aim: What is Drawing and Painting?

• Do Now: Group Doodle Activity

Homework: Supplies/sketchbook due Sept. 11th

Group Doodle Activity:1. Pick a pattern at random from the cards

in front of you.2. Pick a location on the paper to draw the

pattern. Decide on your color, drawing tool, scale and placement.

3. Return the card.4. Keep rotating around so each person at

the table gets a chance to add to the doodle.

5. As you pick up a pattern that’s already been used, do something to alter it and make it work with part of the existing doodle.

• Do Now: Define the art elements/design principles

Still Life Assessment

• Draw the objects as you see them.• Do no re-arrange them.• Try your best to represent the object’s size, shape, texture,

value and three-dimensional quality.

• Use the full space of your paper to compose your image.• Use the full period to draw as much as you can.• Draw how ever you feel comfortable.• Use only the pencil you were given.

• Aim: How can you begin drawing from observation?

• Do Now: In your own words, describe what you think makes a “good” drawing.

Blind Contour/Blind Drawing

• Part 1: Drawing through your senses. • Place your hand into the paper bag, feel the object in the

bag.• As you feel the object, draw it. • You can also draw from memory.

• Part 2: Take object out of the bag, place it on the table and draw it using a blind contour drawing technique. Keep your pencil on the paper, do not lift it, draw using one continuous line. Keep your eyes on the object and don’t look down at your paper!
