Counselors will help you assess your abilities,write your resume and activate your career plan. PCDS counselors offer workshops and seminars on job-search strategies and assistance applying to graduate school. Theoffice can also refer you to off-campus employment and internship opportunities.Recent Drake students have earned internships and post-

graduation employment with such companies as Nike, TimeInc., John Deere, General Electric, Walgreens, MeredithCorporation, The Principal Financial Group, Eli Lilly andCompany, Procter & Gamble, area hospitals, and state andlocal governments. Recent Drake grads have been acceptedinto such prestigious graduate and professional institutions asJohn Hopkins University, Yale, University of North Carolina,Harvard, Northwestern and Washington University.

MERIT-BASED SCHOLARSHIPSFOR TRANSFER STUDENTSBoth Peterson’s Guide to Competitive Collegesand Barron’s 300 Best Buys in CollegeEducation rate Drake as one of today’s bestvalues in higher education. Ranked as a “bestvalue” for academic quality and affordabilityby Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine.Approximately 98 percent of Drake studentsreceive financial aid and scholarships. Aidpackages can include scholarships, grants,work-study programs and loans.

PRESIDENTIAL TRANSFER AWARDS rangingfrom $5,000 to $8,000 are awarded to quali-fied transfer students. All first-time transferstudents enrolling full-time at Drake areconsidered for merit-based scholarships at thepoint of admission. No separate application isrequired, but students must first submit anapplication for admission to Drake’s Office ofAdmission. Presidential Transfer Awards arerenewable based on consecutive full-timeundergraduate enrollment. Students who haveearned bachelor’s degrees are not eligible.

PHI THETA KAPPA SCHOLARSHIPS An unlim-ited number of $1,000 Phi Theta Kappa

scholarships will be awarded to qualifiedcommunity college transfer students whocurrently hold active membership. The PhiTheta Kappa Scholarship is given in additionto a Presidential Transfer Award leading to atotal award of $8,000 or $9,000 per year. Aminimum 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale and 45transferable credit hours are preferred. Thescholarship is awarded prior to first timeenrollment and is renewable for a secondyear. Verification of current Phi Theta Kappamembership by a chapter advisor is requiredvia a form available at www.choose.drake.edu.Part-time students and students withprevious bachelor’s degrees are not eligible.

DRAKE UNIVERSITY LEGACY AWARDS are available to children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Drake graduates who enrollfull-time. The award, which is not based onfinancial need, is $1,500. It is given inaddition to other awards received and can beapplied only to the cost of tuition. No separateapplication is required.

FINE ARTS SCHOLARSHIPS are available toselect students who display exceptional talent inart, music or theatre arts and who are seekinga fine arts degree. Information on these

scholarships is available from each of Drake’sfine arts departments (art, music and theatrearts) and online at www.choose.drake.edu.

NCAA DIVISION I ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIPS areoffered to outstanding student athletes in bothmen’s and women’s sports. Men’s scholarshipsare available in basketball, soccer, track andfield, cross country, golf and tennis. Women’sscholarships are available in basketball, trackand field, cross country, soccer, volleyball,softball, golf and tennis. THE CARVER SCHOLARSHIP is a selectivescholarship for students at Iowa communitycolleges, two-year private colleges and four-year colleges who demonstrate high need,have graduated from an Iowa high school orhave been residents of Iowa for at least fiveconsecutive years immediately prior toapplying. Qualified applicants must also havea minimum cumulative grade point averageof 2.80 on a 4.0 scale and be ready to begintheir junior year at Drake. Contact the Officeof Student Financial Planning for an applica-tion. The application deadline is April 1.

APPROXIMATELY 98 PERCENT OF DRAKE FULL-TIME UNDERGRADUATESTUDENTS RECEIVE FINANCIAL AID, INCLUDING BOTH MERIT- ANDNEED-BASED ASSISTANCE.

SUBMIT the official application foradmission and a $25 non-refundable feeto the Office of Admission. The $25 feeis waived when you apply for admissionelectronically. You’ll find Drake’s onlineapplication at www.choose.drake.edu. Thisapplication may be used for all programsof study with the exception of the PharmDprogram. Please refer to the PharmDsection for application requirements.

REQUEST that official transcripts from allpost-secondary institutions attended forall terms, including summer, be sent tothe Office of Admission. If you’ve earnedfewer than 24 academic credit hours atthe point of application, you must furnishhigh school transcripts with class rankand ACT or SAT scores. All transcriptsmust bear the official seal and signatureof the official in charge of records and besent directly to the Drake Office ofAdmission by each college or universityattended. Transcripts that have been inthe student’s possession are not consideredofficial documents.A transfer applicant who has studied

at a foreign post-secondary institution for any period of time must provide anofficial transcript from that institution. Inappropriate cases, an English translation must be provided.

FILE the FAFSA form and list DrakeUniversity (Title IV code: 001860). It isrecommended that you file the FAFSAbetween January 1 and March 1 toreceive financial aid consideration for anyterm in the next academic year. TheFAFSA may be completed and filed priorto admission.

TRANSFERRING CREDIT AND HOURS:When you enroll at Drake, you maytransfer up to 94 academic credit hoursfor all majors except pharmacy, whichaccepts up to 125 credits. A maximumof 66 credits may be transferred fromtwo-year institutions. Up to 16 credithours of vocational-technical courses maybe accepted at the discretion of theassistant or associate dean of the Drakecollege or school in which you want toenroll. Courses accepted for transfercredits must parallel courses offered atDrake, or otherwise be appropriate forcollege-level credit. Drake considers fulltransfer credit for courses in which youhave received a grade of “A,” “B,” “C”(where “C” is equal to 2.0) or the equiv-alent of “P” on a pass-fail system (where“P” indicates a quality of work no lowerthan “C” on a conventional gradingscale). A minimum of 30 semester hoursmust be completed while in residence at Drake. A course-by-course review of all courses

attempted and completed is prepared for each admitted transfer student bytheir college or school. You will receivedetails on how to access your unofficialDrake transcript online along withcontact information for your college orschool. When final official transcriptsare received, your unofficial transcript is updated.

PHARMD APPLICANTS:Admission to the PharmD program in theCollege of Pharmacy and Health Sciences(CPHS) is offered only for the fall term.

Admission is not offered to transfer appli-cants at the pre-professional level.Students who will have completed

approximately 60 semester hours ofacademic credit in general educationcoursework plus courses in calculus,general biology, microbiology, organicchemistry (with lab), statistics andcomputing by the start of the fall term generally will be considered foradmission to the professional program.Detailed information on prerequisites and admission criteria is provided at www.pharmacy.drake.edu.All professional-program applicants

must complete the application offered bythe Pharmacy College Application Service(PharmCAS) which is only available atwww.pharmcas.org. Drake’s applicationdeadline is December 1, 2008, and earlyapplication is strongly recommended.Applicants must sit for the PCAT no laterthan October 2008, and scores must besubmitted directly to PharmCAS at code0104. A minimum cumulative grade pointaverage of 3.0 from all institutionsattended and a minimum PCAT score atthe 50th percentile, are required foradmission consideration. The CPHS willselect and invite qualified applicants tointerview for a place in the class.

HEALTH SCIENCES:The College of Pharmacy and HealthSciences offers a Bachelor of Science inHealth Sciences, a four-year degree thatprepares students for health sciencerelated fields. Students participate in aninterdisciplinary curriculum offering three tracks: Clinical and AppliedSciences, Health Services Managementand Pharmaceutical Sciences. Transferstudents may be considered for admission into health sciences beginningfall 2008 for sophomores and fall 2009for juniors. Detailed information on thecurriculum for each track is available atwww.pharmacy.drake.edu.

THE TRANSFER PROCESS

GRADE POINT AVERAGEDrake considers for admission to theUniversity transfer applicants with aminimum cumulative grade point averageof 2.0 on a 4.0 scale, or its equivalent,for all college work attempted. However,a 2.5 cumulative GPA is recommended.Transfer applicants must be in good academic standing at the lastinstitution attended. Although a student may be admitted

to the University, the followingminimum cumulative grade pointaverages are required for admission tospecific programs and majors:

Accounting 2.5 (at 42 hours)

Actuarial Science 2.5

Journalism 2.25

Professional PharmD 3.0Program

Teacher Education 2.5 (at 60 hours)
