Firefighters in Chile should receive a salary (draft of Public speech)

The institution of Fire Department has been in the world for long time ago serving the community; they help people when they are in troubles in an accident or fire at house. The firefighters put a lot of effort to organize them for an emergency call and put their lives at risk when they do their job, because of the danger that means to rescue people from an accident or attending a fire.

There are different ranges between firefighters, we can find majors, captains, lieutenants, assistants and aspiring, and one fire department is made up by different companies. But what really stand out their work is the vocation of serving the community, and there are fire departments in which firefighters don’t receive a salary for their job and they do it as community service, that is what happens in countries like Peru, Chile, Argentina, Ecuador, where only exist voluntary fire departments that don’t receive a salary and only obtain resources by donations, fiscal resources or other times, firefighters spend their own money to buy the necessary equipment they need.

In contrast, in north America or Europe, countries like Mexico, Spain, USA, the job or work that firefighters realize is remunerated and also there are shifts at working hour, so different to our country, so from my point of view, the government of Chile should propose a low in the parliament with the statement that firefighters should receive a salary or benefits because their job is a hard job and sometimes they work in hard conditions suffering of absence of security; furthermore, no one is free to suffer an accident or a fire in its house, and you don’t know when you will need their help, it is time to recognize the labor of firefighters and value them and their great job. Don’t forget that emergencies happen in any hour of the day, and they have to attend it.

Finally, to conclude, if firefighters would receive a salary, their job would be more pleasant, because they like to do this by the community but if we add a salary, their lives would more happy and also their families would more happy too, don’t forget that firefighters spend lot of hours outside the house, without their children or wife.
