SENIOR CITIZENS DAY
On Saturday 4th May 2019, the
School hosted its annual Senior
Citizens breakfast. Senior
citizens from surrounding areas
were treated to a wholesome
and scrumptious breakfast.
They were pampered and spoilt
and were presented with a gift
hamper. This was an enriching
and heart-warming event. Our
sincere thanks goes to the
educators, members of the
staff, SGB members and
sponsors who assisted in
contributing towards making
this day possible.
All our learners from grade R to 7 received their June reports on the 14 June 2019. Please take time to read
the report and discuss the performance with your child. Parents that need clarification should consult the
educator. Parents evening has been planned for term two. We encourage all our parents to attend the
meeting. The winter vacation is the best time to visit the public library and borrow books for your child to
read. Learners that attend school regularly perform well. Our daily learner attendance target is 95 %.
Learners that are absent must provide valid reasons for their absence.
Schools will re-open for the third term on the 9 July 2019. Online application for grade one will close on the
22 July 2019. All learners from grade 2-7 should have re-enrolled for 2020.
A huge thank you to everyone who has supported the senior citizens function and our “winter blanket”
project.
Thanks again for a wonderful six months have a fantastic holiday.

STUDY SKILLS
With June Exams having just passed, here are some study tips to help learners improve their results!
1. ORGANISING THE WORKLOAD:
- Practise without pressure: get your child used to taking responsibility for their workload before he’s
in a crunch situation
- Break it down: break the task down into manageable sections
- Be goal focused: encourage your child to plan and set goals before beginning
2. TAKING NOTES
- Practice with something familiar
- Don’t write too much: note just the trigger words.
3. REVISING AND PREPARING FOR EXAMS :
- Make it -manageable, break revision3 task down and focus on one at a time
- Look at past papers: doing practise papers is the best form of exam prep.
- Use visual aids: filling cards, highlighters, mind mopping, sticky notes around the house will help
the information sticking their mind.
- Soothe stress: anxiety is one of the biggest barriers to performing well in tests , so help your child
by talking about how they are feeling
4. TIME MANAGEMENT :
- Draw up a timetable. It helps ensure that you make time for everything that you need to do.
- Don’t put if off: encourage your child to do their studying and homework as soon as they get home
and once they finished they can relax.
- Make learning part of life, as well as setting aside times for work, try to embed learning into
everyday life.
THE IMPORTANCE OF PARENT INVOLVEMENT IN A CHILD’S EDUCATION
Education is not something that only happens at school. Parents have as much responsibility for their children’s education as teachers do. It should be a collaborative effort.
There are several roles that parents should play in their children’s education:
Parental involvement enhances academic performance. Academic achievement increases when parents are involved in their children’s education. The more intensively involved the parents are, the greater the positive impact on academic achievement.
Parental involvement leads to better classroom behaviour. It not only enhances academic performance, but also has a positive influence on learners’ attitudes and behaviour. A parent’s interest in and encouragement of his or her child’s education can affect the child’s attitude towards school, classroom conduct, self-esteem, absenteeism and motivation.
Parents should stay involved in their children’s education from preschool through to high school. Parental involvement can make a positive difference at all age levels. Parental involvement tends to be the greatest with young children and to then taper off as children get older.
Training helps parents of disadvantaged children to get involved. Minority or low-income parents are less likely to be involved in their children’s education than parents of non-disadvantaged children. If they receive adequate training and encouragement, however, minority or low-income parents can be just as effective as other parents in contributing to their children’s academic success.
Reading together at home greatly improves reading skills. Reading in particular improves significantly when parents and children read together at home. Reading aloud with a child contributes significantly to the child’s reading abilities.
