Vice-Chancellor’s Visit
Sri. Chiranjiv Choudhary, Vice-Chancellor inspected the progress of civil
works at College of Horticulture, Ananatharajupet and Citrus Research
Station, Tirupati on 12.05.2017 and 13.05.2017 respectively and reviewed
the programmes.
State Level Technical Programme
Tenth State Level Technical Programme (SLTP) meeting of
Dr.YSRHU was conducted from 1st - 4th May, 2017 at
University Campus. Dr.Y.N.Reddy, Former Professor &
University Head, Dept. of Horticulture, ANGRAU,
Dr.P.Venkata Rao, Former Dean, Central Agricultural
University. Dr.B.Srinivasulu, Registrar & Professor (Pl.
Pathology), Dr. P.Narayana Reddy, Former Professor,
Department of Plant Pathology, College of Agriculture,
PJSTSAU, Dr.K.Gopal, Controller of Examinations & Professor (Pl. Pathology), Dr. S.J. Rahman,
Principal Scientist (Entomology) & Head, AICRP on Biological Control of Crop Pests & Weeds,
PJSTSAU, Hyderabad and Dr.A.Sujatha, Dean of Student Affairs & Professor (Entomology) along with
Dr. J. DilipBabu, Director of Research and Dr.R.V.S.K.Reddy, Director of Extension attended this

programme as experts to review the technical programmes and provided technical guidance for the
new research trials. All the scientists from research stations presented the work done during 2016-
17 and the proposed technical programme of work for the year 2017-18.
Education College Day Celebrations
Decennial College Annual day was celebrated at College of
Horticulture, Anantharajupet on 12.05.2017. Sri. Chiranjiv
Choudhary, Vice-Chancellor attended the programme as chief
guest and addressed the gathering. Advised the students to come
up to the expectations of the parents, teachers and the university.
Instructed the faculty to maintain high standards in academics
and take the responsibility of giving wide exposure to the students regarding scope and opportuni-
ties in the field of Horticulture and to prepare the students to face the competition existing outside
the university campus. Dr. M. Ramakrishna, Associate Dean delivered a brief report on college
activities.
Dr. M. Lakshminarayana Reddy, Dean of Horticulture presided over the function. Dr. G. Subbi Reddy,
Former Dean of Students affairs and Hon’ble member, Board of Management, Dr.YSRHU inspired
the students by recollecting many renowned personalities in India. Sri M. Usha Devi, Hon’ble
member, Board of Management, Dr.YSRHU wished all the best for the students and faculty.
Dr. K. Gopal, Controller of Examinations, Dr.YSRHU advised the students to prepare well for the
ICAR-JRF and other competitive exams. Dr. A. Sujatha, DSA highlighted the role of faculty in
molding the young minds of students designing the complete personality of students in to a respon-
sible citizen of India. Prizes were distributed to the winners in various games, sports and cultural
events.
SKPP Horticultural Polytechnic, Ramachandrapuram celebrated College
Day cum Farewell party on 09.05.2017. Dr.M.Lakshminarayana Reddy,
Dean of Horticulture and Dr.A.Sujatha, Dean of Student Affairs attended
as chief guests and delivered their valuable message to the students.
Also distributed prizes to the winners of various events.
Horticultural Polytechnic, Nuzvid celebrated College Day and
Farewell party on 10.05.2017. Dr.M.Lakshminarayana Reddy,
Dean of Horticulture, Dr.A.Sujatha, Dean of Student Affairs and
Dr. K.Gopal, Controller of Examinations attended as chief guests
and delivered their valuable message to the students. Also
distributed prizes to the winners of various events.
Awareness Programme on ‘Parthenium Management’
On 06.05.2017, Awareness programme on ‘Parthenium’ was conducted
by the students and staff of SKPP Horticultural Polytechnic,
Ramachandrapuram. Students along with staff were involved in
removal/control of parthenium in college premises. The harmful affects
of parthenium were also explained during the event.

Extension Training Programmes
Action plan meeting for the year 2017-18 was conducted at KVK,
V.R.Gudem on 05.05.2017. Dr.R.V.S.K. Reddy, Director of Extension
inaugurated the program in the presence of Dr. E. Karuna Sree,
Senior Scientist & Head, KVK, V.R.Gudem and Dr. A. Srinivas,
Sr. Scientist & Head, KVK, Pandirimamidi. Dr.R.V.S.K.Reddy in his
inaugural speech, mentioned about the recommendations of the
SACs & ZREAC of coastal zone and also enlightened the extension
gaps to be taken up. He also stressed on the importance of data base, studying of existing models,
cropping pattern research, economic, sociological, geographical patterns of the area. Special
emphasis was given on validation of integrated farming systems at farmers end. So, that the farmers
can generate the income through different enterprises.
Vocational training
Dr.N.B.V.Chalapathi Rao, Sr.Scientist (Ento.), HRS, Ambajipeta partici-
pated in ‘Farmers interaction meeting’ at Aratikatla village organized by
Reliance Foundation, Kakinada on 10.05.2017 and briefed about pest
control measures to the farmers on coconut and cocoa.
Exposure Visit
First year students of SSPG Horticultural Polytechnic, Madakasira
visited College of Horticulture and HRS, Anantharajupet on
04.05.2017. Students visited the experimental fields of fruit crops,
vegetables, flowers, medicinal and aromatic plants along with
concerned scientists. On 05.05.2017 the students visited CRS,
Tirupati. Dr. K.T.Venkataramana, Principal Scientist & Head explained about the activities and
different trials being conducted in the research station. After that students visited the screen house
where mother plants are being maintained under controlled conditions.
Personality Development Programme
A two days training programme was organized on 4th and 5th May, 2017
at College of Horticulture, Anantharajupet. Mr. Shekar Sharma, Senior
trainee, Mr. A.Anjaneyulu, Team leader and Mrs. S. Vijaya shanthi,
Center Manager, Amateur Skills, Ameerpet, Hyderabad explained the
teaching methods, teaching aids, communication skills and corporate
etiquettes to all the faculty members and students. Mock interview and mock group discussions
were conducted for the students during this training programme to improve their communication
skills.
Vegetable Carving
Students of College of Horticulture, Venkataramannagudem were
actively involved in “Vegetable carving” and exhibited their talent at
College of Horticulture, Venkataramannagudem on 06.05.2017.

On 03.05.2017, valedictory session was conducted for the tailoring
training programme which was held for 30 days by Krishi Vigyan
Kendra, Pandirimamidi & Andhra Bank Institute of Rural Development
(ABIRD), Rajamahendravaram at Gandhinagaram village of Rampacho-
davaram mandal to support the tribal women SHG group members and
rural women to provide self- employment. Sri.A.S.Dinesh Kumar, IAS,
PO, ITDA, Rampachodavaram attended as chief guest and addressed the trainees. Some of the
trainees shared their experiences regarding the training programme. Certificates were distributed
to the trainees during valedictory function.
Diagnostic Visits
Dr.N.B.V.Chalapathi Rao, Sr.Scientist (Ento.) and Dr. L. Ranjith Kumar,
Scientist (Ento.), HRS, Ambajipeta carried out field diagnostic visit along
with local farmers and Horticulture Department officers in Lakkavaram
village of East Godavari district on 06.05.2017 and observed slug
caterpillar incidence on coconut and created awareness for its control.
As per the request of Sri N. Balaji, Hon’ble Member, Board of Management, Dr.YSRHU and Dr.J.Dilip
Babu, Director of Research along with Dr. G. Ramanandam, Principal Scientist (Hort.), HRS,
Ambajipeta conducted diagnostic visit to coconut gardens at Indukuripeta of Nellore district on
09.05.2017 and noticed the incidence of rhinoceros beetle, eriophyid mite damage and nutritional
disorders. Suggested suitable remedial measures to the farmers .
Dr. K.Venakata Subbaiah, Scientist (Hort.) and Sri. G.Shali Raju, Scientist
(Ento.), KVK, Venkataramannagudem visited ridge gourd field at
Ravigudem and Mettugudem as a part of ICAR-TSP project entitled
‘Introduction of improved vegetable cultivation in tribal areas’ on
12.05.2017 for the identification of pest, diseases and other nutritional
deficiency problems.
Scientists of KVK, Venkataramannagudem visited Mettugudem, Pan-
dugudem, Badrlagudem, Kapuvarum on 12.05.2017 and observed the
hydroponic units. Interacted with farmers to record the feedback on the
hydroponic units and distributed the maize seed.
Dr. P. Ashok, Scientist (Hort.) HRS, Venkataramannagudem inspected mango, cashew and citrus
orchards rejuvenated during 2014-15 and 2015-16 by Department of Horticulture in
Chintapalapudi, Jangareddygudem and other adjoining mandals on 09.05.2017 and 10.05.2017.
Field Day
On 08.05.2017, Dr. A. Srinivas, Sr. Scientist & Head along with scientists
of KVK, Pandirimamidi conducted field day on Paddy var. MTU-1121 at
I.Polavaram village of Rampachodavaram mandal. Conducted technical
session on improved practices of paddy cultivation followed by
feedback session about introducing this paddy new variety under On-
Farm Trial.

Tribal Sub Plan
On 13.05.2017, Sri G.Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, V.R.Gudem
distributed bee boxes (Apis mellifera) to the trainees in Kamaiahkunta,
Pandugudem, Lankapalli, Bandarlagudem, Aliveru, Palakunta, Yeerai-
gudem & China Jeedipudi villages under ICAR-TSP project entitled
‘Introduction of Apiary in tribal villages for enhanced income &
economic security’.
General
Workshops, Meetings and Trainings
Action plan meeting of KVKs of Andhra Pradesh for the year 2017
-18 was held at Indian Institute of Oilseeds Research (IIOR) on
09.05.2017 and 10.05.2017. Dr. Y.G.Prasad, Director, ATARI,
Hyderabad, Dr. Y.V.Prasad, Nodal officer, KVKs of AP, ATARI,
Hyderabad, Dr. R.V.S.K. Reddy, Director of Extension, Dr.YSRHU,
Dr. K. Raja Reddy, Director of Extension, ANGRAU, Dr. Anand Singh, Director of Extension, PJTSAU,
Dr. Vishnuvardhan Reddy, Director, IIOR, Dr. Vilas, Director, ICAR-IIMR, Dr. V. Ravindra Babu,
Director, IIRR, Dr. K. Sammi Reddy, Acting Director, CRIDA, Hyderabad were the guests of honour
for the inaugural session. Dr. R.V.S.K. Reddy, Director of Extension has acted as chair person for the
horticulture session during the action plan meeting of KVKs, Andhra Pradesh.
Dr.D.Srihari, Dean of P.G.Studies has attended the XVII Board of Studies
meeting for P.G. Programmes as an external expert on 08.05.2017 at
University of Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkot.
Dr. P. Syam Sundar Reddy, Asst. Professor (Hort.), College of Horticulture,
Anantharajupet has undergone five days training programme on ‘Good
Agricultural Practices’ from 24th to 28th April,2017 at NIPHM, Hyderabad.
Exposure Visits
Sixty farmers from Sivaganga district of Tamil Nadu along with Sri. S. Vadivel, Horticultural Officer
and Smt. M. Kamatchi, DHO visited College of Horticulture, Anantharajupet on exposure visit under
NHM scheme on 12.05.2017.
Monitoring Visit
Dr. A. Sujatha, Dean of Student Affairs visited College of Horticulture,
Anantharajupet on 12.05.2017 and inspected the student hostels (boys &
girls).
Guest Lectures
Guest lecturers in Plant Pathology were delivered by Dr. P. Narayana
Reddy (Rtd. Prof in Plant Pathology) and lectures on Dry land Horticul-
ture were delivered by Dr. Y. N. Reddy (Rtd. Prof in Horticulture) on 3rd &
4th May 2017.

Dr. S. Nagi Reddy, Retd. Professor (Agricultural Extension), ANGRAU,
Tirupati visited the campus of COH, Anantharajupet and delivered a guest
lecture to the students and faculty on ‘Communication skills and
variegated aspects, Management, Perfection and motivation’.
Prof. Hanu R. Pappu, President Samuel Smith, Distinguished Professor, Virus
Genomics and Biotechnology, Washington State University, Pullman, WA,
USA delivered a guest lecture through video conference on ‘Thrips as
vectors of plant viruses; Tospovirus” to post graduate students of Horti-
cultural Entomology at College of Horticulture, Venkataramannagudem on
02.05.2017.

Measures” in the National Conference on “Post graduate education in
SAUs: New paradigms” organized by University of Agricultural Sciences,
Shivamogga, Karnataka on 3rd and 4th May 2017.
