COLLEGE VISITATION DAYS

• Seniors have TWO college visitation days

• You must fill out a College Visit Day Request form in the Attendance Office (form must be turned in 48 hours in advance)

• Must bring verification of visit to college, giving the date of the visit, to the Attendance Clerk on the day you return

COLLEGE ENTRANCE EXAMS• You must take SAT and/or ACT to be accepted to a 4 year university

• A.C.T.English, Math, Reading, Science and optional Writing component. The ACT® test assesses high school students' general educational development and their ability to complete college-level work

• S.A.T. Reasoning TestCritical Reading, Math and Writing. The SAT is the benchmark standardized assessment of the critical reading, mathematical reasoning, and writing skills students have developed over time and that they need to be successful in college.

• You must submit an to any college, along with a completed application

• Complete a purple “Transcript Request Form” with MHS Registrar – located in front office

• Allow 2 days for processing• 3 free copies; each additional copy is $2• Keep a copy for yourself• IMPORTANT!!

• Fill out a Request to have a final transcript sent to the Technical School/College/University that you decide to attend

ADMISSION DECISIONS• Texas Automatic Admission: This means the

student will automatically get acceptance to the Texas public university as long as they meet all deadline dates and application requirements

• Specific Schools Automatic Admission is dependent on the student’s class rank and/or SAT/ACT scores• Universities will take a 6 semester rank – end of

Junior year• Depending on deadlines, some universities will take

the 7 semester rank – after 1st semester of Senior year

• Only the top 7% of the class will be automatically accepted to

• All of the applicants will be considered for individual review

“ABOVE & BEYOND”• Students need to go …this is a competition!• Have your COMPLETE application to the college or university by

the deadline date. No “trick-or-treating” till your application is complete!

INDIVIDUAL REVIEW• What is Individual Review?

Applicants who do NOT meet the requirements for Automatic Admission may have their file individually reviewed by a committee of admission officers

• Additional information may be requested for the review committee, such as:• Letter of Recommendation (up to 3)• Persuasive statement from the student explaining

special circumstances (example: why grades were lower during a certain semester)

COMMUNITY COLLEGES

• OPEN ADMISSION: These colleges/universities accept all students that apply to that school

• IMPORTANT: All students must still qualify to take college level classes based on TSI test scores.

• You must complete the Application process and attend an orientation.

TSI TEST

• This test checks for college readiness for college level Math, English, Writing courses

• Test can be taken 6 days per week at LSC• Test can be retaken for those sections not

mastered• ACT/SAT scores could be used for the

testing requirement

• Keep these scores, you can use them for college entrance exams at most Community Colleges, Technical Schools and Workforce Educational Programs

TSI Scores Exemptions

SAT, ACT, STAAR, TAKS and TSI scores are valid for 5 years if the student has enrolled in an institution of higher education during that time period (does not have to be just LSCS); TAAS scores are valid for 3 years if the student has enrolled in an institution of higher education during that time period (does not have to be just LSCS).

• MILITARY ACADEMIES• Start applying during your Junior year• You will need an endorsement from a senator or

government official• Application process is highly competitive• Refer to each Military Academy’s website to get specific

• ROTC PROGRAMS• ROTC Scholarship deadlines are in December• Speak to your local recruiter or College ROTC instructor• Read your contract and know how long you have to serve in

the military once you graduate from college
