Mr. Mark Romero. Chair

University of Louisiana System
1201 North Third Street, Suite 7-300

RE: President of the University of Louisiana at Monroe
Dear, Search Committee,
I am pleased to submit my resume for President University of Louisiana at Monroe. I hope the following
information adequately addresses the job posting’s areas of concern.
Currently, I am the Executive Director for Academic Partnership at The University of Georgia and
Georgia Institute of Technology. In this role I am tasked to build alliances within and across academic
fields and private industry, using existing programs and developing new partnerships. This new initiative
was established in 2016. My teaching reasonability include teaching classes in the Master of Historic
Preservation, Master of Landscape Architecture, Bachelor of Landscape Architecture and PhD in
Environmental Planning within the College of Environment + Design.
My former position was Associate Vice President in the Division of Finance and Administration at the
University of Georgia. My core responsibilities in this position included strategic planning to support the
integration of academic programs and physical capital projects into the fabric of the campus. I interfaced
with executive level representatives from across all University areas to develop a wide variety of
solutions that supported the institution’s mission. I collaborated with and advised the President and Vice
Presidents on strategic issues by collecting and melding the academic objectives, private fund raising
initiatives. This work supported and solidified goals and objectives for the University’s growth and
accreditation, with the one common goal, to raise and fulfill the institution’s mission.
As part of my duties, I provided the President and Board of Regents with detailed information that related
to activities at the university. I frequently presented a range of material and reports to private boards,
trustees, foundation members, donors, public meetings as well as the Board of Regents of
Georgia. Additionally, my position required an ongoing collaboration with numerous city, regional, and
state agencies.
This interaction with a broad range of constituents has given me an insight into the working nature of all
the functions needed to build and operate complex processes. Over the last two decades, the University
of Georgia has seen an exponential growth in its academic reputation adding four new colleges and
Page 2
advancing in national rankings. I have been fortunate to be involved in the strategic, academic, financial
and physical planning.
Experience as it relates to The University of Louisiana at Monroe: Member of the University team
that participate with a three county regional economic development board related to the development of
the pharmaceuticals industries, incubator laboratories and other bio-medical industry. Member of the
University and Clarke Country teamwork to develop regional economic development board related STEM
and incubator laboratories and other bio-medical industry in a mixed-use development in downtown
Athens. First Director of UGA’s Real Estate Foundation, than Senior Management team that guided
investments. Now managing $650 million of assets. Guided UGA with Research Park and currently
Innovation District development. This position required an entrepreneurial leadership and vision since it
was the first of its kind in the state of Georgia.
Faculty Position: I hold a Professional Faculty Professor position in The College of Environmental +
Design (first appointed in 1997). This position is a faculty voted, University Council approved, Board of
Regents authorized position. I also have Graduate Faculty status and serve as a major professor for PhD
Dissertations and Master students.
Strategic Vision and Implementation: As an example of my strategic planning efforts, in 1997 the
University Council and The Board of Regents approved the “Master Plan” that I guided and helped
develop. I was charged with developing and implementing a comprehensive plan that ultimately
incorporated a strategic and academic plan. Four new colleges were established including a Medical
School and College of Public Health.
General Management: One of the measurements of my office’s success was how well our staff worked
across the forty-five different departmental lines required to accomplish each project our office manages.
A recent five year internal review of my office cited an outstanding collaborative work environment. The
360 degree review found no recommended changes in our operations.
Fiscal Management: My former duties included fiscal management with a signature authorization of
three million dollars or more per month. I have worked in fiscally challenging environments as well as
robust fiscal times. My annual budgets had to be zeroed out every year and each fiscal year was different.
My office worked with many different funding sources that had different accounting and reporting
requirements. The nature of these accounts translated to situations where our records were under close
scrutiny given the multiple funding sources. Working with so many different funding streams had
resulted in an open book, open accounting process. Due to the nature of my offices work, we were
audited frequently; my office never failed to pass an audit.
Fundraising and External Relations: Given the nature of my work in strategic and master planning, I
am involved in fundraising endeavors. I frequently work with the Director of Corporate Gifts in making
calls to perspective donors. I strongly feel this work is at the core of what a President position should
embody. Higher Education is a rapidly changing industry and funding rising is the key to keeping up and
staying ahead of the changes.
Government Relations: I have extensive experience working with our Vice President for External
Affairs at all levels of government. I interface with local, state and federal elected officials and their
staffs often. I accompanied our president to Washington D.C. many times and gave presentations to
Georgia’s elected delegation on numerous topics. Working within the legislative and lobbying process
was part of my job. I am also an elected city council member.
Page 3
International Experience: I have worked extensively internationally. My experience includes working
with universities in Honduras, Costa Rica, England, France, Italy, Croatia, and most recently in Gabon,
Niger, Ivory Coast and Mali, Africa. I also participated in higher education exchanges in Turkey. My
doctoral studies included international comparative education systems with a concentration in Europe’s
and China’s education organizations.
Other Duties as Assigned: As with all management positions, I am called upon to work on an array of
committees or assignments. I have worked on three reaccreditations at the University of Georgia.
Working on the committees that provides the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS)
reaccreditation information requires in-depth understanding of the institution.
You may find my background somewhat unconventional for this position, but architects are trained to
break down complex issues while working with and across diverse constituency groups to achieve
consensus. Architects are playing a pivotal role in finding and implementing solutions to an array of
problems. If selected for this position I would commit all my energy to the University of Louisiana at
Monroe. As a Louisiana native I believe I have a deep understanding of the state’s cultural and
challenges of the region.
In conclusion, I believe my versatility and ability to learn quickly have served me well and will be an
asset to the University Louisiana at Monroe in this executive level position of responsibility. Realizing
that letters and resumes are not a comprehensive way of judging a person's ability, I hope that we may set
a time for a personal interview. I encourage you to contact my references. I feel that they can accurately
describe my skills, dedication to the job, and professionalism.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Sincerely,
Daniel Sniff, EdD Architect
