Key Talking Points for the public for the week of July 22, 2013:
1. Mosquitoes infected with West Nile virus have been found from Berkshire, Bristol,Essex, Middlesex and Plymouth counties. Although risk to humans is currently stilllow, people should assume that WNV is beginning to circulate in their area, evenwithout a positive finding from their town.
2. Mosquito trapping and testing began J une 17th. Stay tuned tothe website www.mass.gov/dph/mosquito for the latest WNV and EEE informationduring the season.
3. Encourage residents to establish good habits now:
• Pick a repellent with an EPA-approved active ingredient;
• Use long sleeves to cover up when possible;
• Repair screens;
• Remove standing water to help reduce mosquito populations;
• Teach children to be aware of mosquito activity around them andavoid it.
